Empty Stocking Fund Benefit Concert today

Augusta’s Christmas season begins today with the Empty Stocking Fund Benefit Concert, featuring the Augusta Concert Band, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way.

A collection will be taken at the free concert to benefit the seasonal charity, which was begun by The Augusta Chronicle in 1930.

The Empty Stocking Fund raised $104,481 in 2011, helping more than 1,000 families and individuals during the holidays. The newspaper covers the costs of administering the charity, so all donations from individuals, organizations and businesses go directly to those who need them.

Many parents and caregivers unable to provide for their children depend on the charity.

An envelope will be included in your Sunday newspaper to help you make a donation.

Applications for help must be returned by Dec. 7.

  • Send donations to The Augusta Chronicle’s Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928.
