Comments from readers:

THE ELECTION IS OVER. Woe unto America. We will get what we deserve. Coming soon: economic collapse, abandonment of the military, turning our back on Israel, and a full federally operated medical system. The end of Western civilization is right behind that, then Sharia law throughout the world. I understand Sears is having a sale on sackcloth and ashes.

ALL HOPE IS LOST. This election proves that America has taken leave of its senses. Expect continued degradation of freedom and economic catastrophe in America.

AM I A SORE LOSER? You bet I am, and especially when someone wins who is totally undeserving of a victory.

RANT TO ROMNEY. I’m a white 38-year-old union mechanic, and I voted for Obama because I’m one of those who care about Medicare.

RICHMOND COUNTY, YOU have opened up a can of worms by having a sheriff who is no good with leadership ability, no one will follow, people will leave the police force and we won’t get as good service. Second chances are not a policeman’s job. Their job is to enforce the law and arrest. The courts give the second chances.

RAVE FOR ALL the men and women who participated in the Bike-a-thon at Lake Springs and the Bartram Trail. I am a hiker up there, and they are always so nice, friendly and courteous on those trails. Let’s give praise for those men and women who do this on a regular basis.

RANTS FOR THE BIKERS on the Greeneway in North Augusta. They are very rude and have no regard for walkers and children on that walkway. Please do something about these rude bikers.

I WANT TO THANK the people of Columbia County for giving us that Anderson fellow. That was pitiful. Now look what we have to put up with – Barrow for another two years. I’m sorry that folks of Columbia County didn’t do better for us.

WHY WOULD PEOPLE want Marion Williams back on the Richmond County Commission? What a terrible waste.

CONGRATULATIONS, Democrats, for voting another four years of socialism and welfare society. If you think Obamacare is great, you are in for a big shock. I know what happened to England when the so-called free care took effect. I lived there. Fewer and fewer doctors.

I REALLY have a question..............

PLEASE help me to understand, when I post things about all of the abuse and "fat" in the OBAMACARE bill; ACTUALLY copying & pasting the wording from the document............why does that warrant "thumbs down" reviews. I simply cannot believe that adult individuals can be so stupid as to believe that it is okay to give billions of dollars away to those outside of our country, without ANY recourse for getting any of the money back through taxes, etc. Plus the fact, that this has indebted us for trillions of dollars, that even our grandkids will still be paying for when we are dead and gone. Surely, you are smarter than that............

Hi George,

You posted this at 6:26pm -11-15-2012>RICHMOND COUNTY, YOU: You sowed it, now you have to eat it.

It's a sad truth that many voted so blindly, now they will expect those of us who work ,own and pay taxes in Richmond county to keep taking care of them....... Problem there is-many of us middle to older people are giving up on this county..It gave up on us....

harley-52,

Great man and quote at 12:30PM,but how safe would you feel as an older person living and working in Richmond county?

If anyone on here were to go back and check my comments/post,they would see i had high hopes for this county.... Now,all i see and fear, that in trying to better downtown they will bring more of the county down with the relocation of freeloaders and section 8 recipients.... Kinda how they messed up the education system..

First of all for those who

First of all for those who believe that ObamaCare is flat out wrong, then please do not take advantage of any benefits associated with this health care law such keeping children on your insurance plan until age 26 or receiving care for pre-existing health care conditions. I betcha many naysayers are also benefiting in more ones than one from the plan.

"...but how safe would you feel...

....as an older person living and working in Richmond county?"

I am "an older person living and working in Richmond county." Well, actually, I don't work anymore, but I did live and work here for many years. How safe do I feel? I feel safe enough to have fairly recently purchased my fourth residence in Richmond County and, while I could if I wanted, I have no intention of moving out of the County (City).

I'm very disappointed at the last election, both locally and nationally. Probably the most disappointed I have ever been. But, I have faith in America and her citizenry. Though a large portion of the citizenry is currently misguided and ignorant of what's happening to our society this is not the first time things have looked bleak for the Country. I'm still confident things will turn around and that good will ultimately triumph over evil.

The United States of America is the greatest nation the world has ever known. We are the most innovative, the most industrious, the most economically successful, the most powerful, the most generous nation in history. All nations admire the United States, often in spite of our current government. When people around the world need help, they turn to us. People aren't trying to sneak out of America, they're sneaking in. And for good reason.

Times are tough, for sure. But, things will get better. Believe it. Trust Churchill's advice.

The Next Geraldo?

I don't like how Chris Thomas of Channel 12 News has changed his original personality into one of confrontation and surprise.

Last night his piece had him at Terrace Manor Elementary School. First the RCBOE officer told him not to come inside and to move from the sidewalk to the street. Did he obey? No.

But a school board spokesman got a zinger in on Chris (I don't know whether they were at the school or at the school board office downtown). The spokesman said, “We know you are not here to be kind.” That's the understatement of the year.

Finally, Thomas got into the office of Superintendent Frank Roberson. Thomas asked Roberson about the mold at Terrace Manor, and Roberson said they had expert inspectors tell them that the air in the school was "very good." Then Thomas pressed in, “Would you say that there is no mold inside?”

Roberson got a deer in headlights look and told Thomas he would get back to him. Come on, Chris. You know better than to try to trip up a person recovering from a serious illness with a trick question on camera. We live in the sunny south, which is also very humid most of the time. There is not a single building in Augusta that has zero mold or mold spores inside. You do not have to be zero to be considered very good. Thomas knows that. He just tried to embarass Roberson.

Shame on you, Chris.

Romney lost

Obama won because Romney lost. We all knew that the dems whittled away at the republican candidates. Newt and Herman would have punished obama but the dems used public opinion to get rid of them, and they made quick work out of them. Therefore leaving us with choosing between the lesser of two evils again. I've said it many times, I didn't vote for Romney, I voted against obama. I've paid for my health care for many many years, so can everyone else. When I didn't have insurance, the doctors cut me a break without me asking. I paid them though, I guess that's the problem, people go there and don't pay. If your kid would raise his/her right hand and serve this country, they would have their own health care.
The bell ringers should only beg at one exit not both exits. I give and give and give but don't like having to walk past a panhandler every time I go to the store.

Tots. What areas outside of

Tots. What areas outside of Richmond County in the metro are so much safer than Summerville, West Augusta, Forest Hills, CBD, and Southwest Augusta? Even South Augusta has multiple safe neighborhoods. Now places like Harrisburg and Laney Walker are still in the transition stage. Then you have the the really poorer areas similar to East Augusta, Bethlehem, Turpin Hill, etc... Augusta is not the first or the last city to demolishing housing projects. Cherry Tree/Sunset is going to be the third one demolished in the city recently. I also don't know why you think all of these people will continue to live in Richmond County.

Augusta Resident.. The first round of construction along Riverwatch is the improvements to the I-20 interchange($2 million). The over $20 million worth of construction includes the median barrier, resurfacing, intersection improvements(Stevens Creek/Furys Ferry), and the adaptive signal project. The right of way acquisition held up the process of Windsor Spring rd. The second phase involves both South Augusta and the city of Hephzibah. The Wrightsboro rd project had the same issues to an lesser extent in terms of homes located on/off the road.

"keeping children on your insurance plan until age 26 or receiving care for pre-existing health care conditions."

Those are very good words in the Hammer & Sickleman Care but there is just a slight flaw that you don't see....

How long will your children have to wait and just what quality of medical care will your pre-existing condition receive? I can quarentee you that in no way will there be enough doctors to handle the increase and the good doctors will be disappearing as my doctor told me yesterday. Those that are left sure will not be glad to receive the same income for being better in some fields as others in less fields.

Willing to bet on this

I bet we have just as many good rednecks living in single wides --paying their bills--going to work & just barely making it BUT not asking for assisstance of any kind.......probably living on the same amout of dollars some in section 8 ....or maybe less....if their truck breaks down it is a big problem but they work through it....
It can be done...I have seenitB4.

No no no, we will default on the loans way before then. Everybody, even the most left wing nutcase, knows we cannot possibly pay back our debt.....hell, we can't even keep our yearly budget within our revenue, much less make a payment on our debt. We have to borrow more each year just to pay the INTEREST on our debt. We will definitely default before out kids pay the first dime on our debt. They will merely have to live through the consequences of the default. And that my friends is going to be UGLY.

All of our progressive young folks will have won all of these social issues they are concerned with and will probably be digging in the "rich folks" trash cans to try and find something to eat.

Hammer & Sickleman Care Inc. Rates are pretty good and in accordance with the Affordable Care Act they assured me I could never be dropped due to a pre-existing condition which was not the case previously with Aetna, Blue Cross, Humana, and United Healthcare. Think I'll give them a try. Reasonable co-pays on prescriptions too.
