Former Georgia State Patrol helicopter pilot Sgt. 1st Class Herbert Craven, who was stationed at Thomson-McDuffie Regional Airport, has admitted he used state property to engage in an affair and document it with sexually explicit photos.

Sgt. 1st Class Herbert Craven, a pilot based in Thomson, was placed on administrative leave Aug. 14 after copies of the photos were sent to his superiors, according to an investigative summary released Thursday by the state patrol.

The photos depicted sexually explicit images of Craven and a Guyton, Ga., woman inside the state patrol hangar in Thomson, which is being moved to Augusta Regional Airport, and inside Craven’s Bell Jet Ranger II helicopter, the report said.

Anonymous packages containing similar materials were also received by Craven’s wife at her workplace and by WRDW-TV in North Augusta, according the report.

Investigators verified the information with the woman, who said she had sent a package that included the photos on a DVD to Craven at the hangar address. Craven said he never received the package and suspected that someone else had intercepted it.

Investigators could not determine the origin of the anonymous packages and have asked a U.S. postal inspector to look into the matter, the report said.

Craven retired from the state patrol on Sept. 1, the report stated. State patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said in an email response that no further action will be taken against Craven because he is retired.

Protect and Serve has never meant more to GA police. He may be on the short list for Chief Deputy in ARC. They tend to float around. Is he a Republican?

Pilot has fun his way

and the whole world is going to Hades in a hand basket - it is frightening to read of all this filth and immoral behavior. Decency went out the window with all form of examples being set by folks all the way up the ladder. I wonder how much longer all this will continue before the Almighty puts a lid on the whole thing!!!

Doesn't flying a helicopter

Doesn't flying a helicopter require both feet and both hands? I guess that's why this all went on in the hangar.

Our society is obsessed with sex because it's in our face everywhere. I have to have my hand on the remote while watching TV with my son, because even while watching family friendly shows, the commercials are filled with sexual innuendo and images of you never know what. If you have any interaction with modern culture you can't escape it.

No wonder all this goes on.

I hope Herbert and his wife can move past this

I hope Herbert and his wife can move past this. I can't image how difficult that will be - to forgive and forget - to be the spouse that will have to prove their faithfulness to the other and earn that person's trust again -- to be the other spouse who will have to learn to trust again. But I believe it can be done. Herbert was unfaithful, he will have to deal with not being trusted again by his wife - for a long time. But I don't think he and his wife should let this other person determine the outcome of their lives together.
Besides, who is this lady that apparently pretended to care for Herbert and then to put his career in jeopardy -- that is not caring, that is selfish.

The infidelity bothers me

The infidelity bothers me more than the fact he was "doing it" at the workplace.

All in all, not worthy of a news story IMO.

Hummm, no charges expected
Unpublished

Hummm, no charges expected according to the article, so it must be OK. How can a correction be made without proper punishment? Why even report the story and why after he retired? This pilot's behavior reflects poorly on that agency, that city's leadership, and the state. He should be charged with acts unbecoming of an officer.
