Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

RANT TO THE unmarked, silver Richmond County police car that passed me on Doug Barnard Parkway by the airport. I was in the log truck. I was running 45, the speed limit, and you came by me with no lights on running at least 75-80 mph. If you have an emergency, Officer, you need to turn on your blue lights; otherwise you are breaking the law. Maybe Sheriff Roundtree can rein in you cowboys.

I OBJECT TO full-page liquor ads in this conservative newspaper in addition to the one in North Augusta. The closer we get to the holidays, the more you people advertise this. Why don’t you publish the number of DUIs issued?

HE’S BACK. OH yeah. Go, Marion Williams. Stick it to the man. Throw a monkey wrench in all their goofy plans.

I HOPE THE “Save Fort Gordon” group is still active. Major cuts in the military budget and the size of the Army are coming now that President Obama has been re-elected. Fort Gordon is surely on the hit list. You’d better buckle up; this ride could be bumpy.

BIG RAVE TO all who stood in long lines for hours and hours to vote. Thank you. This is America; home of the brave, land of the free. We should not be the land of voter suppression.

WE NEED TO be real supportive of President Obama; he has inherited 8 percent unemployment, trillion-dollar deficits, high gas prices and about 12 million Americans underemployed or unemployed and a horrible foreign policy situation.

RANT TO ALL NAYSAYERS in regard to the new elected officials. It’s done. It’s time for positive participation to help our city, county and nation. It’s not time for negative, hateful and divisive comments that will not help in solving issues.

ALL THESE YEARS you all told me that dad-gum Haunted Pillar was haunted and not to touch it. Then right there on the front page are two guys hugging the thing. What about the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny?

I HAVE YET TO SEE the first FEMA trailer in the yard of anyone that lost their home and is still living in the ruins. Are there no repair shops, construction companies or tool rentals that have portable welding machines to serve as generators for the gas stations without power? What New York and New Jersey need now are some rednecks with their get r’ done abilities.

I HOPE THE: Look at all the

I HOPE THE: Look at all the money that the Hammer & Sickle Man would have to give to the "middle class" if he made Ft. Gordon a ghost town. He definitely has no feelings for the military.

THE UNITED STATES of America. Died 2012.: That there are sure true words.

BIG RAVE TO: "We should not be the land of voter suppression."
I believe that should read..We are the land of voter fraud.

WE NEED TO: Just dying to see who IT blames NOW!

RANT TO ALL NAYSAYERS: OK I agree, He is the best president that we could have elected to Destroy America. How's that.

THERE GOES the country on a fast track to socialism.: Glad you told me, I would never have known.

I HAVE YET TO SEE: NY & NJ forgot about FEMA and It before the storm. They are smart enough to realize that they weren't coming.

For all you so called

"progressives" that claim conservatives hate poor people.

No, this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL-a-r7iJIU&sns=fb is the kind of thing what we rail about. It isn't a racial thing either, it is cultural; the kind of culture we promote with hand-outs and not hand-ups. THIS is what the majority of voters voted for last week.

#8.. The Haunted Pillar is

#8.. The Haunted Pillar is one of the most interesting things about Augusta.

I don't receive anything from the city, and only enjoy balancing out the daily negative comments with some positive news. I have to laugh because the majority of my comments are based on actual facts, and other's simply have their opinions. The person who routinely mentions the imaginary $100 million figure. I can't believe they actually had the nerve to accuse me of making inaccurate statements. The LW deal and TEE Center by themselves don't add up to $100 million. The $12 million parking deck, $37.5 million LW development, and $38 million TEE Center don't equal $100 million either. The same person tried to pump up Athens and Columbus a while back. I said Augusta could definitely support a convention center, because Athens/Columbus have one. The comments soon turned into how both Athens/Columbus have all of these great amenities compared to Augusta. Then I showed him the amount of revenue generated from visitors in each county(Augusta & Columbus were separated by over $50 million).

Pillar

Wasn't this one of the original pillars of the Augusta market or something like that? I always thought it looked a little creepy just standing by itself.
How about the "Slave Market" in Louisville? We went by there dozens of times in the early 60's in our '52 Pontiac on our way to Hoboken and every time we would pass, I would gaze out of the side window and imagine black people standing there in chains waiting to be sold.
There is a lot of history in the local area.

Augusta on the rise

Somebody better get on the phone and tell the corporate at Costco they made a huge mistake. They obviously didn't research the city of Augusta before moving here. They should have opened their first store outside of metro Atlanta in South Augusta. I've been told the factories in South Augusta help balance out the wealth between the area, and West Augusta. I guess the corporate at Five Guys didn't get the memo either. Five Guys decided to pick West Augusta for their first location. The franchise then chose Aiken, Evans, and finally South Augusta.

The $1.8 million grant will help out 15th street, MLK, Millegedgeville rd, and Deans Bridge rd. My first comment mentioned both South Augusta and the Inner City. The grant includes the Regency Mall area which is clearly apart of South Augusta. The $1.8 million grant, and the GA DOT plans to widen 15th street are two completely different things.

The Masters is a large golfing event, and not really in the 'local attraction' category. When people think of the word 'attraction' performing arts centers, amusement parks, water parks, aquariums, etc usually come to mind and not local events. The visitors coming to Augusta definitely go visit the Riverwalk once their here. One of the first places for people visiting here a couple of days is the Riverwalk.

What's wrong with liquor ads?

They're no worse than ads for Beer that are played over and over again during College and Pro football games. You don't like them don't look at them. People complain about everything. Take a prozac and be happy why don't you.

It seems as if you want the death of America the way you bemoan it! Any constructive solutions for what ails this country? Do you have a position that addresses an ISSUE instead of ranting ?

Jake asked:

Yes, it is all that remains of a farmer's market that stood at 5th and Broad. I have read a tornado or a cyclone is what destroyed the market. According to local legend an attempt to move, destroy the pillar, or even touch it will result in death.

Interesting how most places seem to have something like this.

the only Nut case, so called racist hating person of the Hammer & Sickle man that is yelling "Impeachment Now" instead of 3 years down the road when uncorrectable damage has occurred.

Then you have those majority (107%) that say, "support that cloud because it will bring you a better tomorrow after it comes and past.

We all know that the sky will never fall but that hovering black cloud will move through and do it's damage. We all know and wittiness many times what happens when a destructive black cloud does when it has come and past and what it leaves in it's path. Most times, the rebuilding process is long an painful causing life to never be like it was.

Something is fishy here..

The budget adds several new positions, including a “retail economic development specialist” to spearhead retail growth in neglected areas and a compliance specialist to review government contracts for the procurement department.

Spearhead growth in neglected areas....whatcha wanta bet the areas are all downtown...

Everyone on here should go

Everyone on here should go watch the video that itsanotherday1 pointed out. I have seen this before and wonder how can this person with three years of college even think like this much less try to carry on a conversation. The $70000.00 spent on his education could have been better spent taking care of abused animals. Both of the people in the lawsuit are just what the liberals like-not too smart.

Yes, old farmer's markets....

you can put that in your PC pocket if you wish. Augusta, Louisville and Charleston have all went the way of PC. But two decided to give new value to historical structures. Instead of looking at what was wrong in history and how we have made positive changes, lets just "white out" the parts we don't like. Hail Big Brother. Hail BB. Incinerate that history. Replace it with a new history.

does not have to abide by the law. They can lie, cheat and steal. Beat you unconscious and show up for a home invasion with their fly open and their shirt tail out. They do not have to have liability insurance. They are the man. They have a gun and a bat mobile. They are a part of our great society. They demand respect without earning same. So does the rest of society. Protect and Serve. Clean Up and Document.

Retired Army........where's

Retired Army........where's RA this morning? They sky is still up, the sun cam up, the market was down another 185 points yesterday, AND THE FIRST TIME UNEMPLOYMENT REPORT THIS WEEK IS 439,000. Even with the effects of Sandy they economists were only expecting 375,000.

Suspiciously UP 64,000 from what they were expecting and up even more from the several weeks BEFORE THE ELECTION. The numbers before the election were manipulated, and we all knew it. The U.S. Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis, is a long time Democrat appointed by Obama and if you don't think she saw that the numbers were tweaked to get Obama elected you are one of the three monkeys; Hear No Obama Evil, See No Obama Evil, and Speak No Obama Evil. In other words, a blind Democrat Obama worshipper.

And just so I can say you heard it here first, the UNEMPLOYMENT RATE NEVER WENT BELOW 8% and if the lying Secretary of Labor will tell the truth, I'm predicting it will be 9% by the end of January after the "after Christmas layoffs".

Welcome to the second term of the lying Obama marxist, socialist administration.

Good rain last night. Helps the rye pop up out at the golf course.

Day 9 and the sky is in place. Unemployment is down in Georgia and that's before the Christmas seasonal hiring. Ain't life grand?

RA.........you have noticed

RA.........you have noticed that the GA unemployment reports always lag the national trend. The number today does not reflect layoffs of the last few weeks so don't get too giddy. The only significant numbers today are 439,000 new weekly unemployment claims nationally, stock market down 185 AGAIN yesterday and already DOWN 30 this morning and dropping as of 11:10 AM. Of course we knew that would happen when the mad hatter socialist was re-elected. The real NEWS this morning is the obvious manipulation of the weekly unemployment numbers in the weeks prior to the election by the Obama appointed Secretary of Labor. She now joins the Obama appointed Secretary of State, Obama appointed Secretary of Defense, and Obama appointed Attorney General in the game of lying and coverups to protect the totally failed Obama administration. Glad there ain't no Obama appointed Secretary of the Stock Market Ticker. At least it still tells the truth about what's going on.
