A Martinez woman found dead in her kitchen Saturday died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

An autopsy Monday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Augusta determined Krissy Beggs Kitchens, 29, committed suicide, according to Columbia County Deputy Coroner Harriett Garrison.

Kitchens’ husband, Tracy, called authorities from a neighbor’s home and said his wife had shot herself. Deputies found her in the kitchen of their Valdez Drive home with a gunshot wound to the head. Garrison pronounced her dead in the home at 9:45 p.m. and later called the shooting “suspicious.”

Tracy Kitchens, 35, was intoxicated and became combative with deputies when he wasn’t allowed back in the home, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office report. He began pushing deputies and hitting them with his forearms while trying to get past them, the report states.

Deputies arrested Kitchens and charged him with obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He was released from the Columbia County Detention Center early Sunday after posting $2,600 bond, according to jailers.

Sheriff’s office personnel were still investigating the death Tuesday, sheriff’s Maj. Rick Whitaker said.
