An Augusta woman died when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree Tuesday morning, police said.

Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay said it appears that Kisha Luckie, 29, was driving her child to school about 6:40 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle in a curve in the 900 block of Bennock Mill Road. The vehicle spun off the road before hitting a tree on the driver-side door.

Luckie was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt-force trauma, according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

Two passengers, a 13-year-old girl and a 33-year-old Augusta woman, were taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where they were in serious condition.

Gay said the passengers gave conflicting statements about an animal entering the road just before Luckie lost control.
