IF PEOPLE WHO work and pay taxes have to take drug tests to keep their jobs, why shouldn’t people taking welfare paid for by taxpayers have to take drug tests to keep on the welfare books?

SOME ORGANIZATIONS DON’T have volunteers because you don’t know how to treat them the right way. At the end of the time they should give you a small gift card. And there are too many bosses. It is no wonder people aren’t coming in if people are bossy and don’t know how to treat people.

FROM A FRIEND: “Even my 6-year-old gets it … She said, ‘Mommy, if there is only one person in the entire world who likes the name Georgia Regents University, then they probably shouldn’t use that name.’ ”

RANT TO THE CITY of Harlem: Why does the city not do something about the junk in front yards and how horrible this looks as people drive through town?

AZZIZ IS AT IT AGAIN. His dreaming continues with projections of doubling the student population by 2030, i.e. 18 years from now. By that time Azziz will be long gone and hopefully the name will have been changed to Augusta University. By the way, did you notice the photo of the audience in the newspaper did not have one smiling face?

WHEN ARE parents going to take responsibility for the guns in their households? Is it too much to ask that they keep them locked up and not accessible to children?

RANT TO “SAVE THE A.” The only A you saved was “Azziz.”

#1 - I agree and don't think the constitution addresses this issue at all, as the writers never imagined we would have such a high percentage of Entitlements.

#2 - It is volunteer. Don't do it if you want to be monetarilyy rewarded. Your reward should be the good feeling you get from doing something for others without requiring compensation.

#3, 5 and 7 - I agree

#6 - families who decide to have guns should do as I have...Train your children as early as possible in the proper care, storage and use of firearms. Respect comes from knowledge. My youngest could clip the wings from a fly at 100 yards at age 5 with a .22 rifle. Not really, but he knew what they were for and how dangerous they could be. And he also understood how our 3000 pound car could drive over people, and how falling down stairs would hurt. But we never hid the car keys or put the stairs off limits. Education works everytime.

If you get a gift card, you are not a volunteer. Please leave.

If you don't feel like you were treated right, then by all means leave and find somewhere else to volunteer. There are plenty of places out there that can use help.

Around here, during Volunteer Week, most places will hold a dinner or something for their volunteers and recognize them with a gift of some sort, a certificate, and pick a volunteer of the year. I think it presumptuous to expect a gift card or even a gift.

But there you go, that is the world we are in now. Seems folks even expect something when they volunteer now. Kinda sad.

Rant 6

WHEN ARE parents going to take responsibility for the guns in their households? Is it too much to ask that they keep them locked up and not accessible to children?

When they start realizing that it can happen to them and stop thinking that things like that only happen to other people.

When they stop leaving young teenagers home alone for hours with no supervision because they are good kids. Kids are kids. They are not mature adults that think things through.

Also on Rant #6

Even if you teach your child about gun safety, you have to take in to consideration that all children have not.

Just like this last shooting in Grovetown. The boy is going through the master bedroom and finds the shotgun. If you have weapons and you have children that are not supervised, it looks like there is a recipe for potential disaster.

Guns

My parents had guns....we have always had guns.....the children were taught to stay away from them & how deadly they were.....we listened & didn't touch .......
The problem in todays world is the kids don't obey....why is that ??

JTF, Sugar Bowl

JTF, guess who the early projected teams are for the Sugar Bowl. None other than my favorites, UGA and Clemson. Since they play in 2013 anyway, that could mean then play twice in one year.

Guns

When our children were little, we taught them not to even point a stick at someone - so by the time they got their first bb gun there was no question as to where they could point it. And you didn't shoot anything you didn't eat.

Why is an accidental death caused by a gun, the gun's fault but all other accidental deaths are the humans fault.

Sean gets enough grief without me adding to it.
Besides I should have made it to Sean instead of a public post.

I recently attended a wedding
Unpublished

I recently attended a wedding reception where a grade school kid was running around with a toy rifle, pointing it at guests and yelling "stick 'em up." There's really something wrong with the parents who thought that was cute.

""There's really something wrong with the parents who thought that was cute."

You want to make a bet that those same parents wouldn't know the difference between a shotgun and a rifle?

Plan for Republican Party

I came to this conclusion on the editorial page talking about how the Republican Party can regain control. We have to emphasize libertarian principles to appeal to the young. Watching Moonshiners on the A&E Channel helped ferment (no pun intended, ha) this idea. Let's become the party that supports moonshining, growing your own marijuana and having guns with magazines so big they wind around your...uh... arm. Moonshine, Pot and Guns Republicans. Maybe throw in the right to skateboard anywhere there's concrete.

CG, interesting observation.

CG, interesting observation. Some guns do have their own personality. Sometimes they just want to shoot something.
