Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

GOD BLESS YOU, Henry Oakman, for trying to do the right thing to better your life. It is a shame that people can’t forgive and give someone another chance to prove himself. Keep doing what’s right and God will do for you, and you will have great blessings.

BIGGEST RAVE FOR Lakeside High School. It just goes to show that someone with a disability can still win homecoming queen. Your school should be very proud. I know that her parents and her whole family are. Thank everyone for that.

WITH AUGUSTA STUCK on the end of GRU-Augusta, it makes it very easy to drop “Augusta” one day and add another city name like “Athens” and still have GRU. Think about it!

SOMEONE PLEASE tell Phil Mickelson that it’s OK to blink once in a while. In all his commercials he looks like a deer in the headlights.

THANK YOU FOR a success story, finally, for something other than breast cancer. To be so biased to one “color” is a travesty to all those survivors, including me, of other inoperable or incurable cancers. We deserve a colored paper, too.

TO THE PERSON WHO wants nonsmoking fairs: If you don’t like the smoke, stay home. We have as much right to enjoy these open-air events as you do. By the way, I bet you can sit around the grill all summer breathing charcoal and gas fumes while your children do the same.

RAVES TO MRS. MELINDA Price, of Harlem United Methodist Church. She was our leader during the pumpkin patch. She was wonderful to us. May God bless her and her family.

FOR THE PEOPLE WHO think that Honey Boo Boos only live in the South: I have been up North, and they have plenty of them. They may not call them rednecks, but don’t be fooled.

IT LOOKS LIKE people in New Jersey are braving the storm better than the ones in Louisiana when Katrina came through. Why aren’t they blaming Obama for Sandy like the people in Louisiana blamed Bush?

RANT AGAINST THE juvenile justice system. I can’t believe they allowed those inmates to just walk off the campus and their punishment was days off with pay. Isn’t that like a vacation?

THINGS ARE BAD, but now the whole country has gone to pot.

I've Said It Before, RA

The sky will never fall regardless of what is happening on this planet earth. It's that hovering black cloud in the horizon that scares the hell out of me. It is almost like the snake you don't see.

Falling Sky

The sky may not be falling but the stock market is. But thanks for serving RA, that in itself gives you the right to speak your opinion... no matter how wrong it is :)

Art in the Dark at the Holy

Art in the Dark at the Holy Comforter church on Fury's ferry was enjoyable-art, wine, talk, and some great jazz by Fred Williams on sax and a Jazz group (some Col Co.orchestra players apparently takin up jazz) with Katrina Chandler-that girl can sing. Enjoyed it. Pretty cool idea to promote the arts. Small venue but no crowds. Augusta has some talented individuals and music and the arts is growing in downtown and spreadin' to other areas too-good thang.

Very unusual quake for this area...

Nov 10 (Reuters) - A light 4.3 magnitude earthquake rattled southeastern Kentucky on Saturday at 12:08 p.m. ET (1708 GMT), the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake, at a shallow depth of 0.7 mile (1.1 km), was in the Appalachian Mountains near the Virginia border, and centered in the rural town of Blackey, the agency said.

USGS initially reported the quake as 5.3 magnitude. Earthquakes in this coal-mining region are rare. (Reporting by Vicki Allen)

Question...Are we fracking in this area??

Obama Administration Endorses New U.N. Arms Trade Treaty Negotiations

Just as NRA warned would happen, following the election, the Obama administration has moved forward with its plans to support a United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. On Wednesday November 7, the U.S. Mission to the U.N. made clear its support for renewed ATT negotiations, casting a vote in favor of resolution A/C.1/67/L.11. The resolution calls for a "Final United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty" to be held in New York City from March 18-28.

(U Know Who) - Thanks

Had to share.....I like to see someone try and debunk these Facts!

Only in America

I guess it takes a Canadian to actually figure this out!

Top Ten – Only in America - By a Canadian

1) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich
at a $35,000 a plate campaign fund-raising event.

2) Only in America could people claim that the government still
discriminates against black Americans when they have a black
President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal
workforce is black while only 12% of the population is black.

3) Only in America could they have had the two people most responsible
for their tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury
Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means
Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher
taxes.

4) Only in America can they have terrorists kill people in the name of
Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims
might be harmed by the backlash.

5) Only in America would they make people who want to legally become
American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens
of thousands of dollars for the privilege while the government
discusses letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just
‘magically’ become American citizens.

6) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the
budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution be thought of as
“extremists.”

7) Only in America could you need to present a driver’s license to
cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

8. Only in America could people demand the government investigate
whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas
went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. Oil company
(Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes
(Nike).

9) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from
the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion
dollars more than it has per year for total spending of $7 million PER
MINUTE, and complain that it doesn’t have nearly enough money.

10) Only in America could the most productive people who pay 86% of
all income taxes be accused of not paying their “fair share” by people
who don’t pay any income taxes at all.

BEST EVER SENIOR CITIZEN JOKE

A little silver-haired lady calls her neighbor and says, "Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get started."

Her neighbor asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?"

The little silver haired lady says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster."

Her neighbor decides to go over and help with the puzzle.

She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table.

He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says,

"First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster."

He takes her hand and says, "Secondly, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then," he said with a deep sigh ............

Now....let's get all the corn flakes back in the box....:):)

My husband now has COPD,

My husband now has COPD, thanks to his family's cigarette smoking. No, we don't barbeque anything any more, just one more thing that he had to give up in order to breathe. How is it that smoking is more important than breathing? How messed up is that?

Yesterday was my brother's memorial service. He died at age 57, he had smoked for 42 years. Smoking was the cause of his death. How anybody, anywhere, anytime can smoke, knowing what we know, is just beyond me. He didn't think that he would die so young. But he is gone, and we never will have him back.

All of you smokers- you are KILLING YOURSELF. You are causing terrible pain to your family. You will become very ill and suffer. And when you die, you will leave a group of grieving family and friends who will know that they should've had you so much longer, and would've, if it hadn't been for smoking.

Smoking is very enjoyable, all right. I have a brother whose remains are now in a wooden box because of it.

CG, where do you want me to

CG, where do you want me to start? That "Only in America" is just more of the nonsense that you like to post.

But because I'm exhausted, I'll just talk about a couple of those things. Yes, it is obvious that a Canadian wrote it who doesn't understand how American government works.

The head of the Treasury- and it doesn't matter who it is- is not responsible for the tax code at all. That would be Congress. I'm surprised that you don't know that.

And I haven't had to show ID to buy alcohol in years, but I've had to show an ID to vote as far back as I can remember. Perhaps that Canadian needs to come to the United States more often before he makes such ridiculous, generalized, sweeping statements.

I know the difference between an petroleum company and a manufacturer who makes their product overseas in sweatshops. Again, that "brilliant" Canadian doesn't seem to understand that. And that Canadian also doesn't understand that everyone in the US is dependent on gasoline, but not on a company that makes shoes and workout apparel. If the oil industry could pay their workers $.10 per hour, they'd have a higher ROE too.
And who in their right mind would compare gasoline to tennis shoes?

And only in America would we let a foreigner, who doesn't even live in America, say untrue and distorted things about America, and consider that to be ok, under the idea of free speech. But I notice he doesn't seem to consider that.

If Canada is so great, why do so many Canadians come to the US for health procedures?

I'm sorry for peoples loss.

I'm sorry for peoples loss. But we have the choice to smoke ourselves to death which I choose over a nanny state tellin' me what to do. I've seen people drag their oxygen tank with mask outside the VA to smoke. People who have never smoked nor been exposed to second hand smoke also get cancer and die. Alcohol kills too but I see no move to prohibition in the near future.

Perhaps if you were to ask ol' CG what brand of liquor he prefers, you would understand his preference for Canadian writers.
