Comments from readers:

THE AZZIZ CON GAME continues. Basically the university name has not changed. Just adding Augusta at the end of GRU is ridiculous especially since it will not be the legal name. Let’s not give up that easily.

HOW STUPID CAN the Regents be? Putting Augusta at the end is nuts. We all know it should be Augusta Georgia Regents University – not University Augusta

MR. OAKMAN, IT is commendable that you wish to do good now to make up for what you had done wrong in your past. But that past is not distant enough for us to be able to go against rules to have some distance and absence after your crimes before you can be around our children. There are other public avenues to go to in order to counsel children.

RANT TO RICHMOND County. What kind of reprimand is a day off with pay?

CONGRATULATIONS to Jessica Giddens for being named the homecoming queen at Lakeside, a very deserving honor. Also, thanks to the students at Lakeside High School for being so supportive of Jessica and her family for the past four years.

THE FIASCO OVER running the Augusta Convention Center continues. The cancellation of two conventions because of the inability of city officials to agree on operating details is beyond belief. The more conventions that are canceled means the more we taxpayers are going to be saddled with the convention center losses.

EMPEROR Z JUST doesn’t get it. Even Georgia Regents University Augusta is unacceptable.

I THINK THE NAME for the new consolidated colleges should be: Augusta Regents Georgia University.

BESIDES THE four-wheelers n Belglade subdivision, we have kids who continuously ruin the paint on the entrance sign, drivers who fly down the streets much faster than the 25 mph limit, and homeowners who park on the curbs, which leads us to practically play chicken with oncoming drivers on our narrow streets. We would like folks to take pride in our neighborhood.

I AM APPALLED by the support that has been shown for the “volunteer of the year” ex-con who is allowed to hang around school because he is not gainfully employed.

Sigh

I long for the days when the rants were for removing "The Longhorns" cartoon or when "somebody stole the last doughnut and I know who you are". The name thing is like the energizer bunny, it keeps going, and going, and going. Oh well, congratulations Jessica on being Homecoming Queen.

Jake, since we lost this

Jake, since we lost this naming thing for the school, we should follow the Clemson example and name the town after the school. Change Augusta, the city, to Georgia Regents. Mark the city-county limits that way. Maybe they would realize what a stupid name it is. It would probably tick off Azziz and the regents, too.

The only difference between you and Mr. Oakman is that he got caught .If that article wasn't in the paper you would have never known him or even cared for that matter. Who do you think cooks your food at Red Lobster? Did you know John Deer hires ex cons? So does Midas, they put brakes on your car. That's just a small example.

Good Frosty Morning Y'all

View at 7 feet from the highest point in CC, can't see the 21 acre pool because of the fog and lawn is white. The no tee shirt time is here.

1,2,6,7,8 is a GRU or is it now GRUA. Like I said before, I don't think I need to get involved, it is your fight but my heart and feeling are with you.

MR. OAKMAN, IT: Augusta resident comes pretty close of making my comment.

RANT TO RICHMOND County. What kind of reprimand is a day off with pay? (Don't you realize the financial hardship that is caused by having to pay for your own coffee and using your own toilet paper.....)

I Second the congratulations Jessica on being Homecoming Queen.

BESIDES THE....JMO but it seems you are very unhappy where you live, MOVE.

Ice Cream

Last night when I picked up my son from his fencing class, we stopped to get an ice cream. Inside the store was an elderly man accompanied by a woman who was just a little younger than him. He had an old, worn cap on that said "Korea War Veteran". I asked them if they would mind if I bought their ice cream's for them. They were very appreciative and the veteran (Bill) asked me "Why do you do this?". I explained that my father was a WWII, Korea and Vietnam vet and that I wanted to show some sort of appreciation for your service.
They sat at a small table and, as we were leaving, Bill asked us to join them. I started chatting with Bill and noticed that he had an accent. I asked him where he was from and he replied "Czechoslovakia". He also stated that he was born in 1927 and was 11yrs old when the Nazi's entered his country by means of the Munich Pact.
I wanted to know what happened next so he told me he was arrested, along with the rest of his family, because they were Jews. Him and his brother were eventually sent to Mauthausen concentration camp and he never saw the rest of his family again. He showed me his numbered tattoo on his arm and I must admit that by that point I had tears in my eyes. I was glad my son was there with me to witness this person of history, a Holocaust survivor, sitting among us.
Mauthausen was located in Austria and was not an official extermination camp but a brutal work camp that was infamous for it's rock quarry. "The Stairs of Death" was 186 steps from the bottom of the quarry to the top and each person had to carry a 95lb rock on their back many times a day. Obviously, given the deplorable conditions and lack of food, many people died there. Some estimate up to 300,000.
After liberation he came to America, became a citizen and joined the Army and was subsequently sent to Korea. "I was so grateful to the Americans and their Army that I wanted to be part of it".
Veterans Day is on Sunday so let us all be thankful for those who have served in the past and are still serving.

Petraeus

So Petraeus is resigning due to a extra-marital affair? Good. Too bad Bill Clinton didn't. I find it unbelievable Clinton has the gall to continue showing his face in the public arena and actually seems to be rewarded for his bad behavior. What a world we live in.

What Condi Rice says about the GOP......

WASHINGTON — Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the Republican Party must adapt better to rapidly changing demographics in the United States, saying the GOP sent "mixed messages" in the election campaign on immigration and women's issues.

"On the immigration issue, which turned out to be very important, and some issues about women too, some mixed messages were sent," she said Friday on CBS' "This Morning. "And when you send mixed messages through the narrow funnel that is the media spotlight sometimes people hear only one side of that message."

"Right now for me the most powerful argument is that the changing demographics in the country really necessitates an even bigger tent for the Republican Party," she said.

Said Rice, "But when you look at the composition of the electorate, clearly we are losing important segments of that electorate and what we have to do is to appeal to those people not as identity groups but understanding that if you can get the identity issue out of the way then you can appeal on the broader issues that all americans share concerns for."

"And when you send mixed messages....

....through the narrow funnel that is the media spotlight sometimes people hear only one side of that message."

I think she nails it. People will probably tend to focus on the "mixed messages" part of that line rather than the real focus of what she said which is the MEDIA SPOTLIGHT and the fact that people hear only one side of the message (the side the media wants them to hear).

The Republicans' problem is far less their message than it is how the media characterizes their message. Republicans don't hate clean air. They don't hate clean water. They don't insist all women carry babies conceived via rape. They don't hate Mexicans, or women. They aren't all rich, white, old men. They don't want people starving in the streets. They don't push old women in wheelchairs off cliffs.

The fact of the matter (though the ultra-lefties will deny it) is that a Republican candidate, in order to win an election, must overcome both his democrat opponent AND the mainstream media. Republicans haven't figured out how to do that and the citizenry hasn't figured out how to think for themselves instead of letting the mainstream media do it for them.

The Country is the loser, not just Republicans. But, denying the facts of the perils we face and insisting Republicans are evil people is obviously all it takes to win an election. As I said Wednesday.....God help us.

General Petraeus

I, too, always liked and respected Petraeus. And if this story of an affair is true, then I will only like him a little(for his military service). I respect no one that cannot be faithful to the one they swore they would "forsake all others" for. I am real uncomfortable with this story, something just seems to not ring true........................To say I have mixed emotions right now, is putting it mildly!!

WHY...

Why is it some can't understand affairs in famous people.....

Power is an aphrodisac to many women....money & power is powerful....I would imagine Mr Roundtree will have MORE problems with females than ever before.....I hope he is able to handle this problem .............constant adoration from women is not easy to ignore.......some on here I'm sure understand this problem....lol..

Burying Bad News....

Is it just a coincidence that....

1. Hearings about Behghazi were held off until after the election?

2. Obama waited until after the election to address the "fiscal cliff" that has suddenly become the focus of his attention?

3. Petraeus waited until after the election (but just before his Congressional testimony on Benghazi) to suddenly resign because he was having an extramarital affair?

My, my.....funny how things work out.
