Three people – two of them pedestrians – were killed Sunday in separate traffic accidents.

About 10:30 a.m., John J. Dickert, 49, of North Augusta, was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Columbia Highway near Duke Drive in Aiken County when he slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer that had stopped to let someone out in the northbound lane, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said.

Carlton said Dickert was pronounced dead at the scene. Toxicology is pending.

Just before 1 a.m., Monty L. Pettit, 49, of Gaston, S.C., was hit by a vehicle while walking on Highway 302 near Wagener. He was taken to the Aiken Regional Medical Centers, where he died from his injuries, Carlton said.

The car didn’t stop and had yet to be found Sunday night, authorities said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating. An autopsy in Newberry, S.C., Sunday morning found Pettit died from blunt force trauma, and toxicology is pending, Carlton said.

Heather Floyd, 34, was walking across the 2800 block of Washington Road in Augusta – from Circle K to Rodeway Inn – just before 2 a.m., when she was hit by a 2006 Jeep SUV driven by Nicole Mason of Martinez, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay.

Floyd was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her husband, Jene, had been walking behind her.

Gay said the wreck was still under investigation Sunday night, but it appeared Floyd was at fault for not crossing at a crosswalk.

Bad Weekend On The Roads

Deadly weekend on Aiken County roads, along with some high profile accidents. It won't be long before we see the "wolfpack" back cracking down on unsafe drivers!
