Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

MY WIFE AND CHILD were on their way home from church on Atomic Road when they saw three people gutting and chopping a deer apart. It was extremely traumatic. Does this type of activity need to be done in plain sight of a main highway?

IT IS TERRIBLE to hear your father and your mother always putting you down, and now they want to kick you out and you have nowhere to go. It is a shame that your mother and father could be so cruel.

HAS ANYONE besides me figured out that the Board of Education is backing Roundtree for sheriff because they want to get rid of him?

PLEASE VOTE for a candidate this November who shares your same Christian values and save our country.

MOVE CHERRY TREE folks beginning next summer? In less than a year? How can you skip on the Hyde Park people who have been waiting so long with their physical ailments due to the pollution and water problems?

BIG RAVE to Firehouse Subs for the donation of 34 vests for law enforcement!

THIS IS A RAVE for Matthew, a manager at Best Buy on Robert C. Daniel Parkway. I bought a TV there last month and had to return it and received another of the same brand and had to return that one. Neither worked properly. I called him, and he replaced my TV with a better one that was $40 more than the one I originally purchased. He was so kind and professional in the way he handled the problem. Thanks again, Matthew!

I STILL STAND BY my suggestion of Big Bird as a write-in candidate. Big Bird forever!

I AM MARRIED to what used to be a staunch Democrat, but he is no longer because Obama has divided this country more than the Civil War did. We are beginning to be more racial than we have been in the last 40 years thanks to Obama.

DON’T TEAR DOWN Cherry Tree Crossing. Why not move the people out to a better place? Remodel Cherry Tree Crossing and turn it into a community where elderly people can live and stay.

WHY ARE SO MANY county employees driving county vehicles home? Is this a perk of the job? Stop this practice and save on your gas bill.

I Am Married To...

How asinine can one get?

Obama is not responsible for the "great" racial divide the author of this rant proposes.

If there is a "great" racial divide (and I would question that) today it is because there may be some inherent racism lingering in America on both sides of the aisle, and in all racial groups nationwide.

And, I would also expect to find that the author of this rant is surely one of those "inherent" racists.

My Wife and Child...

Traffic on Atomic Drive can be rather fast moving...

How much of the "traumatic" slaughter could that innocent child have witnessed?

Folks, A bit "touchy" and overly protective I'd bet.

For heavens sakes, please be careful when you take your child to the grocery store, some of them have glass windows allowing viewing into the butchering area at the meat department.

Racial or racist?
Unpublished

To become more racial means you are becoming more like a particular race. To become more racist, means you now hate people of color because of one man, which, quite honestly, is despicably small-minded and ignorant regardless what you think of the job Obama has done as president. I agree that Obama could have done better. But I also see the obstructionist congress he had to work with-- an obstructionist congress that is overwhelmingly rich, white, and male, an obstructionist rich, white, male congress that sought to serve only those who are like themselves and made it their priority to make Obama a one-term president. When you are one man and over 200 people are actively working against you to stymie everything you want to do, I don't think Obama's lack of accomplishments are entirely his fault. It was due to an insidious agenda to hold this country hostage to Grover Norquist and the uber-wealthy.

So, go ahead and vote for the rich white guy who ran "his state" into the ground when he was governor. Go ahead and vote for a rich white guy whose state was 47th in the nation in job creation while he was governor, whose tax policy shifted the tax burden from the state to cities and towns and caused hundreds of lay-offs among teachers, firefighters, and police officers and a crime surge. Go ahead and vote for a rich white guy who changed policy positions based on a single statement from a single individual. Go ahead and vote for the rich white guy who thinks the average kid can sell stock and borrow money from mom and dad to go to college. Go ahead and vote for the rich white guy who thinks 47% of Americans are losers who feed off the government like parasites-- and realize that if you get a tax refund he thinks you're part of that 47%! Go ahead and vote for the rich white guy who is currently losing the state he served as governor overwhelmingly.

Romney has about 30% of the vote in Massachusetts while Obama has about 70%. Ask yourselves what Massachusetts might know about Romney that you don't. Then find out what Massachusetts experienced under Romney and discover the real reason he didn't run for re-election was that the Massachusetts state legislature and the voters turned on him because of his policies. See that Romney's failure to seek a second term in Massachusetts was not because he wanted to save the Salt Lake Olympics. Instead, Romney did not seek a second term because he contradicted himself, waffled on policy, enacted tax reforms that drove jobs out of the state, and increased unemployment and crime in a state that is traditionally one of the safest, wealthiest, and whitest in the US.

Traumatized?

Man has been eating animals since God gave permission to Noah after the flood. It is the great circle of life. We need to toughen up our kids a little to the reality of life. Get away from the wossification of America where everything from a swamp owl to a stalk of grain is viewed as a living soul. That is a bunch of humanistic hogwash. The American Indian harvested animals, with respect and never more than they needed not did they waste one ounce of the byproduct. I am sick of namby pamby, bleeding hearts saving everything that moves at the expense of mankind. There, I feel better now. Excuse me while I go make a plate of venison and gravy over rice.

Hyde Park

This sham is second only to that perpetrated at the TEE Center. NO, I repeat, NO Documentation exists for contamination of any property which constitutes a significant health risk there, yet taxpayers are going to shell out $475,206 to buy property (and that is described by Corey Johnson as a good start) and move the residents, some of whom have no desire to move.

In the 1980s, residents launched a series of lawsuits against a defunct industry - Southern Wood Piedmont Co. - claiming they were damaged by wood-treating chemicals that migrated away from the former treatment plant. Although the plant was closed and an extensive environmental cleanup was launched, Hyde Park residents were deemed unaffected by the chemicals and the lawsuits were dismissed.

- In 2000, the last such lawsuit was dismissed because there was insufficient evidence to prove Hyde Park was contaminated.

The EPA’s Field Investigation divided the Hyde Park area into five neighborhoods. Investigators found high levels of arsenic, chromium, and dioxin in the surface soils and groundwater of two of those. In all five neighborhoods, they found significant levels of PCBs and lead. However, the ATSDR announced that these chemicals did not constitute a significant threat to residents’ health unless they “inadvertently ingested it on a daily basis for many years” (Health Consultation Final Release 1994).

So unless you are eating dirt and drinking ditch water daily for many years, there is no significant health threat. Chances are the testing of soil in my backyard would turn up similar results.

Many who will benefit financially from this are not even residents, and have purchased property there after the revelation of problems, possiblty in anticipation of a financial windfall.

Woody Merry wrote an excellent, comprehensive analysis of this debacle earlier this year and I invite our commissioners and readers to review it.

County vehicles

The problem goes deeper. Why is almost every truck purchased a 4 door? So more people can ride around in it. Did you know we keep people from the sign department on call with a truck over the weekend in case a road sign gets run over? We need common sense solutions and managers who are interested in running their departments frugally.

But sadly, no one is watching the checkbook. And if, as a department, you come in under budget your budget gets cut for the following year. SO we build in incentives for inefficiency. Needs to run like a business, but God forbid!

I personally like Best Buy. You find a kid what knows their stuff, drive the questions and then buy and get out. Even when they try to upsell, it makes sense.

Ranter #4

Ranter #4 writes "PLEASE VOTE for a candidate this November who shares your same Christian values and save our country."

Well, since one third of the Republican party believes President Obama is a Muslim and we know Mitt Romney is a Mormon, just which Christian candidate would you want us to vote for?

Good Morning America ****Day 8****

This post was commandeered from Raymond on the "Freedom Outpost".
We have many in our group that is as good as Raymond with words. I just couldn't help posting this one.

What has America become?

Has America become the land of special interest and home of the
double standard? Let's see: If we lie to the Congress, it's a felony
and if Congress lies to us it's just politics. If we dislike a black person,
we're a racist and if a black dislikes whites, it's their 1st Amendment
right. The government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and
they do almost nothing for the victims. In public schools you can teach
that homosexuality and lesbianism is ok, but you better not use the
word God in the process. You can murder a child in the mothers womb,
but it's wrong to execute a mass murderer. We don't burn books in
America, we now rewrite them. We got rid of the communist & socialist
threat by renaming them progressives. If you protest against Obama's
policies you're a terrorist, but if you burn an American flag or George
Bush in effigy, it's your 1st Amendment right.

You can have pornography on TV or the internet, but you better not
put a nativity scene in a public park during Christmas. In America,
criminals are now called sick people. The government takes money
from those who work hard & gives it to those who are lazy. Parenting
has been replaced with Ritalin & video games. The land of opportunity
is now the land of hand outs.

And how do we handle a major crisis today? The Government
appoints a committee to determine who's at fault, then threatens
them, passes a law, raises our taxes, then tells us the problem is
solved so they can get back to their reelection campaign.

I don't care whether you like me or not. This is not a local popularity contest. But as well as Obama stood up after listening to Valerie, she/he made the wrong call on this one and he needs to man up and show that he accepts not only credit when things go right (successful on the ground training and execution), but also failure to at least try to save the situation.

This is a man made Obama disaster not a Republican dirty trick right before an election. Ms Jarrett failed to give him the right advice.

A Thumbs Up For Rant #1

For 72 years I have been cruelly Traumatized and never knew why!

Every October when the snow started falling, from the time I started walking to 17 years old I helped hitting 2 cows in the head with a sledge hammer, skinned them and chopped them up. 4 hogs that we stuck a knife in the juggler vain, soak them in boiling water, collected the blood for my grandmother to make blood sausage. Around a hundred hens that I would grab 5 at a time by the legs and chopped their heads off so my Mother and Grandmother could feather and cut them up. Those poor beautiful one or two deers that I shot and hung over night in the freezing cold. I can't forget those pretty brook trouts that I took from their home in the brook that ran through the farm and froze them in ice.

To think I felt good when it was 20 below and 10 feet of snow outside eating all those poor animals. Boy, was I a sick human.

I suggest you take your wife and child to Old Savannah Road meat processing plant and let then view the real world.

I'm reminded of the Columbia

I'm reminded of the Columbia County man who bought a cow, hit it in the head with a sledge hammer and dressed it in his backyard. A neighbor was apoplectic. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office could find nothing wrong with the incident. What if you cut up a chicken and actually cooked the thing on a grill outside? Put a dead animal over a fire??? Heavens to Betsy.

I am too old. When I was grammer school aged, I saw my share of frog leg prep, fish prep and neck wringing and head chopping of chickens. Moving out of the country, a few years less than 50 complete with the animal lover's we are has left us ambivilous.

My Take

MY WIFE AND CHILD - The world is full of things I don't want my children to see... when possible I instruct them to look at me or look away. Reorganizing the world and padding it like the corners of your coffee table is not realistic.

PLEASE VOTE - I'll go you one better than that, vote for someone who shares a similar concept of liberty.

Voting "Christian values" can get you into trouble... like when you vote for an idiot merely because he says things you might find printed on a plaque in your local Christian book store. Jesus instructed his followers to be CUNNING as serpents... THEN harmless as doves - don't twist it around and be dumb as an ox led to the slaughter.

Just for the record, if you take some people at their word and believe that President Obama is a Muslim - then there is not a "Christian" candidate for president. Mitt Romney is a Mormon, that is not a "Christian" denomination any more than Christianity is a denomination of Judaism. There may be connections between Christianity and Mormonism, but they are tenuous - at best - with regards to theology and the basics of faith.

Looking back at our Founding Fathers, you see cooperation across a wide range of RELIGIOUS belief because of a common belief about LIBERTY.

In this current election season, the two mainstream candidates share a common belief in government, not liberty. Food for thought.

BIG RAVE - Love Firehouse!

I STILL STAND BY - Big Bird makes more sense than most politicians... just a little concerned he'd use the position to feather his own nest...

I AM MARRIED - It's a little odd that you refer to your spouse as, "what used to be a Democrat" as opposed to "a person who used to be a Democrat". As for the irresponsible comments about the Civil War... meh, I give up.
