Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

THE OFFICIAL U.S. government Medicare handbook is 140 pages of governmentese apparently designed using confusion and boredom to stop you from reading its gibberish. Government sends these expensive books to con you into believing you can understand those word-twisting manipulators. Ask your representatives and senators to explain it, if they can.

A TERRORIST ATTACK in France was carried out by a “suspected jihadist cell of young Frenchmen recently converted to Islam.” Isn’t it odd that terrorists convert before they go on the warpath?

THAT WAS A RIDICULOUS idea for someone to just take a stray off the streets. You can risk diseases or physical harm that way if you are not used to animals. Plus, people with allergies will not just pick up any dogs. So, yes, the strays need to be reported.

IF PINK IS GOOD enough for the American Cancer Society to use as the color for survivors,
surely it’s good enough for a little girl’s playhouse in the neighborhood in Evans. The neighbors who are complaining about the color should be grateful that all they have to do is look at the pink playhouse and not have to wear a pink ribbon as a reminder of the worst things in life. It can always be worse.

CAN’T CAR DEALERS just be upfront with these low lease payments? They show the low payment only to put the high down payment in small print.

RANT TO NONDRINKING societies: They nurse grudges for centuries. It’s better to mix it up, make merry and forget about things.

PEOPLE WANT TO say that the Honey Boo Boo show is a disgrace to Southerners but the fact is many Southerners fit the profile of the people in the TV show. Just walk into a Walmart. For the most part, the South is more Honey Boo than Scarlett O’Hara. Sometimes the truth hurts.

THANK GOD FOR Martha King, who works at Augusta Cares. Please give that wonderful lady a raise.

Augusta Cares

Well, I called Augusta Cares to ask for a cleanout of our storm ditches, which are filled with tall weeds. It's been three weeks and no action has been forthcoming. I will keep you commenters informed as to the progress.

..Surprised to hear this...My experiences with Martha King at Augusta Cares have always been just fine.
In my discussions with her she seems to be genuinely caring and interested....
And she has gotten the job done in the past....
Anyway....try once more......

Strays

I have adopted many strays off the streets over the years. Not one time did I get sick from any of my dogs or cats. I have never been harmed physically by any of my animals either. By the way..I am also allergic to cats and dogs too.

If people can't take them into their homes and care for them, the humane thing to do is call the animal shelter and have them picked up. If you need a good friend, that is the best place to go as well :o)

I am not sure what this rant is all about.

I know historically drinkers hold grudges, make merry, and also can forget about things.

But I am not sure what nondrinking, grudge-holding, nonmerrymaking, nonforgetting group of folks that has been doing this for centuries they are talking about.

It Could Be Worse?

If the only criteria for how to handle issues is "it could be worse" -- then gosh, the "Save the A" campaign is a complete waste of time, because geez, if all you have to be concerned about is the name of a University, then get over it "It could be worse." Remember, "a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet." Of course anything can be worse, what kind of argument is that?

Pink houses

What a tie in on that one! I didn't build the pink playhouse but somehow I don't think breast cancer had any thing to do with color selection. Just another reason I didn't buy into a neighborhood with a homeowners association and their silly bylaws.

That being said, don't forget to thank a LEO today.

Honey Boo Boo

US magazine had the comments of Honey Boo Boo's mother this week. Hilarious way she has to lose weight. Let me say this tactfully. She says making FLATUS 12 times a day will make you lose weight.

President Obama joked about Honey's endorsement of him the other night. The show has been picked up for more shows. The more I think about it Honey Boo Boo's mother is a genius. The spin-off products will soon begin.

On another article....

INSTEAD OF A RECEPTION, HOW ABOUT A SLAP IN THE FACE? The Richmond County Democratic Party executive committee voted to cancel a November reception honoring retiring Sheriff Ronnie Strength because Strength, a lifelong Democrat, endorsed his best friend, Republican Freddie Sanders, for sheriff.

hahah....all I can think is the good Sheriff Strength really cares about Richmond county & wants the best man in the job....
BTW he has been slapped around by the best (think radio ) & he is still standing tall...

Walmart and Scarlett

I don't know about shopping in the store, but I bet Sam Walton, the deceased owner of Walmart was more like Rhett than you think. A Southern gentleman surrounded by brilliant Southern Scarlett O'Hara and Melanie Wilkes types. Southerners own the store while scalawags, carpet baggers and yankees shop in it. Plantation life is genteel.

Hope This Happens Within 16 Days

On Wednesday Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms in the United States . The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress. Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments. These are laws that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United Nations and individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. The laws are designed and intended to lead to the complete ban and confiscation of all firearms.

The Obama administration is attempting to use tactics and methods of gun control that will inflict major damage to our 2nd Amendment before US citizens even understand what has happened. Obama can appear before the public and tell them that he does not intend to pursue any legislation (in the United States) that will lead to new gun control laws, while cloaked in secrecy, his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is committing the US to international treaties and foreign gun control laws. Does that mean Obama is telling the truth? What it means is that there will be no publicized gun control debates in the media or votes in Congress. We will wake up one morning and find that the United States has signed a treaty that prohibits firearm and ammunition manufacturers from selling to the public. We will wake up another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that prohibits any transfer of firearm ownership. And then, we will wake up yet another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that requires US citizens to deliver any firearm they own to the local government collection and destruction center or face imprisonment.

Gun control won't work...a few examples..

USA Gun Control

Introduction – What we are going to do is politically discuss the issues related to gun control.

Does Gun Control Reduce Crime? – Emphatically no. Never once did it ever do that.

Below are several studies that can be researched on the Internet yourself that document the fact that gun control never reduces crime.

New Jersey – In 1996 New Jersey passed what was considered to be the most stringent gun laws in the USA. Two years later their murder rate went up 46% and their robbery rate about doubled.

http://www.panamalaw.org/USA_gun_control.html

Hawaii – In 1968 Hawaii passed harsh gun laws. At the time of the legislation their murder rate was 2.4 per 100,000 per year. Nine years later their murder rate had tripled to 7.2 per 100,000.

Washington, D.C. – In 1976 they passed a major gun control law. They even stopped people from owning guns in their homes. Their murder rate went up 134% while the USA rate for murder dropped 2%.

New York City – They have some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the world. All sales of any sort of gun are restricted and tightly controlled. 20% of all armed robberies in the USA are committed in New York City and they do not have anywhere close to 20% of the population. This is what happens when the criminals know a certain population is unlikely to be unable to defend themselves.

CGee, that is true what you

CGee, that is true what you posted. It's an end run via the UN to outlaw guns in THIS country. It will be something like, "Well, we have to follow international law in the spirit of a peaceful world."

It really is not Martha

It really is not Martha King's fault. Once she relays the message that's how long it takes them to get off their lazy bottoms to do something about it. Yes, Richmond Co. Utilities are just as bad if not worse than good ole Washington D.C.

Chicago has lost control & now wants to tax

Facing a $267.5 million fiscal 2013 budget gap, County Board President Toni Preckwinkle proposed a tax of 5 cents per bullet and $25 on each firearm sold. The tax would generate about $1 million, the county estimates.

"The violence in Cook County is devastating and the wide availability of ammunition only exacerbates the problem," Preckwinkle said in her budget address.

Chicago's murder total so far this year is 419, up from 336 over the same period last year, an increase of nearly 25 percent, according to the Chicago Police Department.

"Acute trauma care for a shooting victim costs $52,000 on average and 70 percent of shooting victims have no insurance," she said, adding that 670 such victims were treated last year by the county's health system "at an enormous cost." When a victim has no insurance the county picks up the tab.

Gangs are running the place & all they can think of is tax on guns & bullets........how many crooks-thugs do you think will pay a tax....how stupid can they be.....yeh right.....I can see the thugs admitting they have stolen guns.....
