The Augusta Warrior Project is expanding its veteran outreach into 12 new counties, thanks to a $75,000 grant from the Jacksonville, Fla.-based Wounded Warrior Project.
The money will be used to hire two advocates in Burke, Lincoln, McDuffie, Warren, Glascock, Jefferson and Jenkins counties in Georgia and McCormick, Edgefield, Barnwell, Bamberg and Allendale counties in South Carolina.
The goal is to build partnerships in rural counties and link veterans with resources, said Jim Lorraine, the executive director of the Augusta Warrior Project.
“AWP’s model is to connect with veterans, educate them regarding what is available to them, advocate for them as necessary and collaborate with community partners to provide services,” Lorraine said in a statement.
The Augusta Warrior Project helps veterans with the assistance they need, including housing, service-related benefits, education and health care.
Steven Nardizzi, the Wounded Warrior Project’s executive director, said the group “is very proud to be collaborating with so many diverse organizations.”
