Rants & Raves

THIS IS A RANT against Augusta Animal Services! The stray dog population in the Harrisburg area is huge! I saw no less than five dogs this morning on/around the Eve Street exit and on the Calhoun Expressway! Please expand your hours.

TO THE PERSON ranting about Richmond County Board of Education auctions: Do you really think they are going to sell something that works? I think not. Now you have to spend more than you paid for it to get it in working order. Lesson learned. Now get off the computer and go try to find a job.

IF AMERICA NEEDS a strong middle class, why has Obama been waging war against the middle class his entire political life?

TO THE LADY who talked and texted to the married man: Sorry, darling, he lost interest in you because you are so boring.

I’D LIKE TO KNOW how the Columbia County tax office has the nerve to charge me, an 85-year-old woman, $261 in school taxes? I’m speechless.

IT IS GETTING to the point where you can’t even get your aches and pains taken care of here. This health business is for the birds.

YES, WE READERS would like for the editors to not publish their slanted and often illogical Republican viewpoints on the editorial page!

A RANT FOR Richmond County bus transportation and schools. My 6-year-old is being bullied on the bus and in school because of a troubled child who is bullying other children … and is not seeing any major consequences. He has thrown my son’s school supplies off the bus, yanked him around by his jacket, called him names and picked on his appearance. My child is very tiny and quiet for his age and has done nothing to deserve this. If this had been Glynn County, which we are from, those parents would have been ordered to seek professional help to see that the troubled child gets the resources he/she needs to perform adequately in school.

RANT TO THE Richmond school trustees. Why does the Richmond County board allow Superintendent Roberson to live in South Carolina? If a superintendent can live out of state, why can’t students attend school out of zone? Vote the Richmond County school board out in November.

THE ONLY CITIZENS who should be allowed to vote are ones who pay taxes. All others are parasites.

@Riverman

When I read the 85 year old's rant I thought someone should tell her she might not have to pay the taxes. Then I thought the brightest light bulb, Riverman, will have the answer and as I read through the comments there you were. My parents live in Richmond County and they do not pay school taxes. I just don't know at what age it begins. Sad thing is that the 85 year old probably only reads the print copy of the paper and will probably not see your suggestion.

Fair?

Fair would be the number of votes based on high much you pay in Federal income taxes. Folks ought to have a say in how their money is spent based on how much they are contributing.

Has anyone see this?

I was about getting some keys made when I pulled up behind a vehicle with vinyl lettering in the back window. I've seen a number of stickers that read "SALT LIFE," which I presume has something to do with fishing (?) but I took a double-take, thinking I'd misread the first time; this one read "SLUT LIFE."

No matter how many times I looked, that was what it read. What's happened to us that someone would go around with that label?

And I don't think we are going back to when women and minorities were not allowed to vote. that means no poll tax and not literacy tests, and no hoops to jump through in order to vote.

Homestead Exemption

RM ... this actually breaks it down further ... but this is only for Columbia County. It varies by county:

Local School - Age 65 - Income Limit
(L1) - Total exemption from school and school bond. This applies to the house and up to (3) acres only. Homeowner or co-owner must be 65 years of age by January 1st of year applying. You must bring current year's income for all who live in the household. Gross income cannot exceed $12,000.00 from all sources. You must reapply every year.

Age 62
(L3) - $40,000 From Assessed Value for County and School.
$2,000 From Assessed Value for State. Homeowner must be 62 years of age by January 1st in year of application, and net taxable income of both spouses cannot exceed $15,000. To qualify for this exemption, provide proof of income (Georgia & Federal Tax Returns), date of birth, and social security number.

Age 65
(L4) - $40,000 From Assessed Value for County and School.
$4,000 from Assessed Value for State.
- Same requirements as for L3 above -

Local School - Age 70 - No Income Limit
(L6) - Local Senior Citizen School Tax Exemption. Homeowners who are 70 years of age, or older, on or before January 1 of the year in which application for exemption is made, can apply for the homestead exemption from Columbia County School ad valorem taxes, including taxes to pay interest on and to retire school bonded indebtedness. This exemption automatically renews each year as long as no deed changes occur. Proof of date of birth is required (HB 1735).

1987.....Ollie North...

Thought you might be interested in this forgotten bit of information.........

It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were
playing an old news video of
Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra
hearings during the Reagan
Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the
third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by a
senator, 'Did you not recently spend close to
$60,000 for a home security system?'

Ollie replied, 'Yes, I did, Sir.'

The senator
continued, trying to get a laugh out of the
audience, 'Isn't that just a little excessive?'
'No, sir,' continued Ollie.
'No? And why not?' the
senator asked.

'Because the lives of my family and I were
threatened, sir.'

'Threatened? By whom?' the senator questioned..

'By a Muslim terrorist, sir' Ollie answered.

'Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?'

'His name is Osama bin Laden, sir' Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name,
but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then
probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt.
Then the senator continued.. Why are you so
afraid of this man?' the senator asked.

'Because, sir, he is the most
evil person alive that I know of', Ollie answered, and the Muslims are trying to take over America and destroy it from the inside out and putting their people into our political offices.

The Senator was Al Gore......

At that time some thought North was a nut case...

Thanks again, KSM. The problem is in Columbia County they had about 3 people in the entire county over 62 who made less than $15,000. On the other hand, if you live long enough and don't have to pay any taxes at age 70, regardless of your income, you have a great deal.

It wasn't Osama Bin Laden that North claimed threatened his family, it was Abu Nidal. Osama Bin Laden wasn't a factor in the Iran Contra time frame, he was a little too young. Abu Nidal was the most notorious terrorist back in those days. He was supposedly the world's leading assassin/terrorist and not somebody you'd want after your wife and kids.

I don't think he ever confirmed North's claim, so we'll never know whether the story was true, or not.

Some people believe North is the world's leading bullshooter.

Ranter # 3

I'm a little late to the party today. I did give thumbs up to Angie H.

Thinking about rant # 3 two things came to mind. First, I despise his term "middle class." But it is instructional, nevertheless, because class warfare is his strategy and the struggle between the proletariat and the bourgesuasie (I can't even begin to spell it correctly) is his passion since studying Marx and Engels. Classism is un-American. America is about the individual. It is about keeping what you earn. It is about helping whom you choose to help, not being forced to help those you choose not to.

Second, Obama's policies have been shrinking the number of middle-income families. Because of the shrinking economic base, many people who were middle-income in 2008 are now lower-income. Pay raises are unheard-of. Expenses (especially gasoline and food) are way up. There are fewer jobs today than there were in January, 2009.

With Obama a friend of the "middle class," who needs enemies?

"Don't buy 0r consume...

Oh...you mean "sales" taxes? Why didn't you say so? Yes, I pay sales tax, but I don't pay several other types of taxes.

I can't think of anybody (that I know, at least) that pay all the different types of taxes possible. I sure don't.

It helps to be specific (which you weren't). It's a typical leftwing attempt to mislead when someone claims so and so "don't pay taxes." Everybody knows they mean "federal income taxes," but liberals, afraid to admit the truth, obfuscate the issue by claiming they really do "pay taxes." In the minds of most reasonable people, everybody should pay income taxes on their income whatever the source and whatever the amount.

Oh, Harley you so funny when trying to cover up your missed cue. A typical left wing mislead, eh?

Funny, my original comment(Retired Army10/08/12 - 09:11 am) was in response to a rant that wasn't very "specific" at all, was it?

Heck, I even quoted the rant just so folks wouldn't have to scroll up in reference.

But I do emphasize. It hurts my feelings when I have to admit to my mistakes, rather than rationalize/justify them.

Then again, many of the self appointed censor/trolls who haunt these boards take care of the erasure of unpleasant factS.
