Rants & Raves

POLITICS CAN BE a lot like driving. Push “R” for backward or “D” for forward.

AUGUSTA STATE University called to ask me to give them money because I am an alum. I can promise you this, until this GRU thing is gone, preferably taking Azziz with it, I will not contribute even 1 cent to that school. I hope everyone else stands up and does the same.

RAVE TO THE staff at Dr. Thielkes’ office who helped me when my battery died.

EVERY TIME THAT I submitted a rant against Lee Anderson, The Chronicle did not print it. Lee Anderson is no more a politician than I am.

SINCE EVERYONE involved in the selection of the “Georgia Regents” name knew ahead of time that they would probably be facing a lawsuit if this was selected, I assume that the Board of Regents, Dr. Azziz and everyone else involved in this selection, which, by the way, the majority of people in Augusta and surrounding areas did not want, will pay all expenses for this lawsuit, not the taxpayers in Augusta.

HERE IS A RANT to those who still want to fight about the new name for GHSU. Get over it. Yes, Augusta is known nationally, but except for golf not always in the most positive light. GHSU is bigger and hopefully better than Augusta. Let’s move forward.

I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE a big rave to Russ Boyd and his wife for coming to the rescue of three women after the Just Give Me Jesus event. They went out of their way to fix our flat tire and make sure we were able to drive home.

THE DEMOCRATS MUST really be embarrassed every time Romney releases his tax records. Romney gave $4 million to charities last year. Joe Biden gave $350. One year, Bill Clinton deducted underwear that he had donated to Goodwill. Democrats love to be charitable with other people’s money, but not their own.

A RANT REGARDING the new gate hours at Fort Gordon Gate 5. There are many soldiers and retirees living outside Gate 5 who might need to utilize the post hospital during the night. To travel downtown would be too time-consuming during a true emergency, and traveling around to Gate 1 would also be time-consuming.

Oliver Hardy Festival

When Harlem, yes, in southern Columbia County, has been hosting a wildly successful Oliver Hardy festival on the first Saturday of October, every year for something like 20 years, what genius at the county rec department thought it would be a good idea to schedule a Columbus Day festival in Evans on the SAME day? Why cut off your nose to spite your face?

"Push “R” for backward or “D” for forward..."

Good advice when we've been driven headlong and are now mired in a political hole and want to get out rather than go in deeper.

Not at all; the liberal bloggers are asking if Romney gave a full 10%. So, no; they have no shame. It takes morals to have shame.

R&Rs

May be the best reason to vote for Anderson over Barruh, Anderson is no politician while Barruh is Politician Extraordinaire.

#6 Ricardo...Is that you again?

#7 Russ andPhyllis are great people. Not surprised.

#8 Democrats don't get embarrassed.

Good Morning America "32"

I see the R&R is still keeping good old Azziz in the lead over King SMNCICBHO as the top issue in our Nation today.

Sorry, I feel saving the name of USA should be top of the list over GRU!

A close race now..

WASHINGTON, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney gained ground on Democratic President Barack Obama after a strong performance in their first debate heading into the Nov. 6 election, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken after their prime-time face-off.

Romney is now viewed positively by 51 percent of voters, the first time he has enjoyed a net positive in the U.S. presidential race, the poll found. Obama's favorability rating remained unchanged at 56 percent, according to the poll.

Romney moved ahead of the president on several core issues after Wednesday's debate, which was widely seen as a victory for the Republican candidate.

Voters now see Romney as a better bet to boost the economy, spur job creation and manage the budget deficit, the poll found. He narrowed Obama's advantage on taxes, the Social Security retirement program and the Medicare health insurance program for the elderly and disabled.

Romney's strong performance could make the race more competitive, Ipsos pollster Cliff Young said.

Closing Gate 5 Nights and Weekends

That's a major issue for South Augusta. Much of the growth out there is fueled by the fort. If people have to drive many miles to reach Gate 1 except during daytime work hours, it will detrimentally affect those with fort connections. The reasons to go on the fort afterhours are too numerous to list. I encourage the command to reconsider. Augusta Commissioners and Mayor should be involved with this matter. A call from the Mayor to the post commander could work wonders.

Azziz finally got one of his rants published. The D and R comment reminded me of a joke I heard once. A guy says when I die I want to die like my grandfather did. Peacefully in his asleep, as opposed to the passengers in his car. I refuse to sleep while my country is being driven off a cliff. Romney may not be the best man but he's the better man. We see what we have gotten for the last 4 years. Time to hold Obama to his word and fire him!

Augusta's Paleo Proliferative Age

I’m often amused by Countyman’s vociferous support of Augusta. But he makes one assertion that makes me wonder if something unusual didn’t happen in Augusta a few years ago. The population from the 2000 census to the 2010 one is about the same, but C-man says that doesn’t reflect the estimated growth from 2006 to 2010. In other words, the population decreased from 2000 to 2005, but then made up for it with gains the rest of the decade.

The problem is the number of homes actually decreased over the entire decade. Assuming he is accurate, what happened is the people of the county began a proliferative romantic phase making babies in 2006 that resulted in making up for the people lost.

Did any residents of Augusta feel particularly stimulated and romantic during those five years? Was anything done to the water supply when that private company took over? Did MCG flush some outdated Viagra into the river? Did the sun do something funny? A comet? What caused the amorous feelings all of a sudden?

Deke?

Almost forgot, Coutyman often associates Deke with the rise in population starting in 2006. Was Deke especially busy or something? Did women find him attractive and have a sudden desire to have babies? Were those photos of him in those Speedos THAT effective?

What he fails to understand is neither of us hate Augusta. We just see what it could be. I applaud his enthusiasm but fast food places do not a city make.

To answer your question RM

During the 1990s, Atlanta, which some called "the Harlem of the '90s," was a favored destination. It gained close to 160,000 black residents in six years. These returnees saw the city as a new promised land, a city with unlimited opportunity, a great place to raise their children.

Many blacks returned to the South......in the 90s & now....

Cuts abortion rate...

Free birth control cuts abortion rate dramatically, study finds

By Brian Alexander, NBC News Contributor

A dramatic new study with implications for next month’s presidential election finds that offering women free birth control can reduce unplanned pregnancies -- and send the abortion rate spiraling downward.

When more than 9,000 women ages 14 to 45 in the St. Louis area were given no-cost contraception for three years, abortion rates dropped from two-thirds to three-quarters lower than the national rate, according to a new report by Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis researchers.

From 2008 to 2010, annual abortion rates among participants in the Contraceptive Choice Project -- dubbed CHOICE -- ranged from 4.4 abortions per 1,000 women to 7.5 abortions per 1,000. That’s far less than the 19.6 abortions per 1,000 women nationwide reported in 2008, the latest year for which figures are available.

I see the Obama

I see the Obama administration manipulated the unemployment number that came out this morning to make up for his poor debate performance. If you look at the numbers they don't even make sense. No way unemployment dropped 3 points based on the very few new jobs they reported. Their numbers don't add up.....they don't even come close. And they call Romney a liar while they manipulate offical government reports.

Why is it grown ups can't solve this problem??

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- It's an ongoing problem in some schools, and now, it's reaching kids at an even younger age.

Bullying can come in many forms, but when things get physical, what should parents do to make sure their kids are safe?

Regina Djigal is the mother of a third grader who is being bullied at Meadowbrook Elementary.

"He doesn't understand why this is happening," she said.

Her son is a straight-A student. She says he won a citizenship award and pretty much keeps to himself.

"I teach them you go to school, you keep your hands to yourself, you keep your mouth shut and you do your work, which is to learn," Djigal said.

But, for the past three weeks, her son has been the victim of three separate attacks by bullies, two of them leaving him bruised and beaten.

Sometimes a good ole paddling is what a bully needs.
