SOME SAY IT IS only a name and tell us to move on. But imagine if the South Carolina Board of Regents decided to rename Clemson University as South Carolina Regents University? Or Auburn was renamed Alabama Regents University? As a graduate of Augusta College, I feel I have lost all connection to my school.

BIG RANT FOR The Chronicle. You failed to recognize Augusta Christian as being No. 2 in the S.C. Independent High School rankings, but you mentioned all of the other schools in the area. The Augusta Christian football team is one of the strongest teams in the area. Please give them more coverage.

I WANT TO THANK the two young ladies at the Murphy gas station in the Grovetown Walmart who assisted an older lady who had a reaction to a new medication. They drove me home in my own car, and I really appreciate their concern and their care.

RANT FOR Ricardo Azziz. The citizens of Augusta do not want you here in our fair city. We hear Florida is lovely this time of year. Go.

RANTS TO THE driver for Columbia County transit who has his radio up so loud in the morning. That’s not good for the customers. He doesn’t need to push Rush Limbaugh on people. Old people don’t want to hear that.

IT IS WRONG for rich people to have contempt for poor people, but it is perfectly fine for poor people to have contempt for rich people?

TO THE PERSON WHO complained about the Georgia Power bill. I have Jefferson Electric, and I would give anything to trade places with them.

SINCE WHEN DO Richmond County and Columbia County police officers not have to do the speed limit? Lately around town in both counties where the speed limit is clearly marked I’ve seen those Columbia and Richmond County police officers doing at least 10-15 miles over the limit.

WHERE ON EARTH ARE those people getting those American flags to burn? Jay Leno had this right as a question: Maybe the flags were made in China.

ONCE IT BECOMES Georgia Regents University, the only top administrator who was not previously part of MCG will be the athletic director because at Azziz’s current university there was no need for an athletic director.

Auburn and Clemson
Unpublished

I don't think either school is a public university. As private universities, they wouldn't be subject to the machinations of their respective state board of regents. Auburn didn't become Auburn University until 1960. Before 1960, Auburn was known as Alabama Polytechnic Institute, the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama, and East Alabama Male College. Clemson has always had "Clemson" in the name, though the school has been called Clemson Agricultural College and Clemson College. "Clemson University" did not become the school's name until the 1964. History extends back in time far beyond our own lifetimes or the lifetimes of our eldest living relatives. Facts are pesky things, aren't they?

Clemson and Auburn

"Facts are pesky things, aren't they?"

Clemson and Auburn are both state public schools. Both great schools, too.

"... two young ladies

who assisted an older lady... " One thing that gives me hope is stories like this aren't considered "news." For all the bad things that happen, the norm is still us reaching out to help one another.

Years ago I thought I lost my diploma

... and sent off for a replacement. It arrived in due course, and it read "Bachelor of Theological Studies." In the meantime, I found my original, which reads simply, "Bachelor of Divinity." Not the same. Not the same at all; so I for one understand and identify with the visceral opposition of ASU people to the whole autocratic GRU name change.

By the way, my original diploma is smaller than a piece of typing paper, while the replacement they sent looks like it's big enough to be a windshield cover for a B-52. What's with that?

Friendship

One of the best things about my time here so far has been being able to connect with friends, some old and at least one new one. Sarge, stay strong in your fight and you made me laugh and reminisce about a lot of things this morning.
CG, you are quite an individual and you doing all the work out at your place is keeping you in great shape. I enjoyed talking with you but wished we had more time to chat.
KSL, you looked terrific today sitting at the table with your husband. Again, as with CG, I wish we had more time to talk. And thanks so much for having nwr come as well. I will never forget the kindness she showed to my family.
Tomorrow is going to be another Augusta adventure involving local soul music greats.

I can't stand Rush Limbaugh on low much less loud. I think he's a hipocrite and a fat blow hard.
He's a very rich fat blow hard though.
By the way, HE AIN"T FUNNY even if he thinks he is.

My brother went to clemson when they shaved the freshmen's hair. Wasn't it some sort of military school for a while?

Every morning around 0500 a Richmond County Deputy passes me on Furys Ferry going at least 15 mph over the speed limit passing others and not using a turn signal. Bad example.

The rant said...

IT IS WRONG for rich people to have contempt for poor people, but it is perfectly fine for poor people to have contempt for rich people?

That reminded me of the 81 year old waitress in California.....she was bamboozled out of her savings by the idiots in Nigeria.....they promised her a fortune....she even sold her car just thinking she would become a very rich woman...in other words.....some will be BROKE & FOOLED out of their money til the cows come home......
Some will be rich & keep their money ..........hate them if you wanta....I'm going to try to copy them...

JTF, Chipper was hitting 300

JTF, Chipper was hitting 300 most of the year. That would have been an even nicer way for him to go out. But let's hope he shines in the playoffs.

Shrimp, yep, Clemson used to be kind of like Texas A&M, cutting the hair of freshmen and all.

SeenIt, yep, to you too. If we divide everything and come back in a year and it will all be the same again. Witness lottery winners and pro athletes.

What am I missing here...

AKCAKALE, Turkey — Turkey fired on Syrian targets for a second day Thursday but said it has no intention of declaring war, despite tensions after deadly shelling from Syria killed five civilians in a Turkish border town. The border violence has added a dangerous new dimension to a conflict that is pulling Syria's neighbors deeper into what already resembles a proxy war.

Turkey's Parliament began an emergency session to discuss a bill authorizing the military to launch cross border operations in Syria. If approved, the bill could more easily open the way to unilateral action by Turkey's armed forces inside Syria, without the involvement of its Western and Arab allies. Turkey has had a similar measure in place for years for northern Iraq, where its big guns and jets periodically attack Kurdish militants.

If we sent a few missiles into Canada...wouldn't we be at war??

About the TEE

I'm hearing that those reviewing the mess of deals are finding out the Marriott employees who run the TEE will become city employees. What a sweet deal for the Marriott (I should trademark that line) to get their employees who won't be busy at all with the few events the TEE has scheduled paid by the city. If this is not true, I'd like for someone to dispute it here.

Andy Cheek said lots of Richmond County School System administrators are given cars to use. And he doesn't mean the one allocated to Dr. Roberson we all know about. Yet, they are having furloughs?

They can't relate to the average worker...

news today...

Romney shares his interactions with jobless Americans and his plan. The focus group responded well to the specifics of Governor Romney's plans whereas Obama's comment about the economy he inherited fell flat. They said Romney seemed confident and strong, Obama seemed ill prepared and defensive. However, the general takeaway was that neither candidate demonstrated a real empathy with the plight of average working Americans.

Major Romney Win

Even the liberals were stunned by Obama's lackluster performance. MSNBC commentators were shocked. Analysts from the left and right were commenting on Romney's superior performance. Even Bill Maher says Obama really does need a teleprompter. This was the shot in the arm Romney needed.

They had ABC on in the concierge lounge this morning. George and team were insisiting that President Obama won and the 67% of Americans who say he didn't are simply wrong. Too funny. They were apoplectic

From Market Watch

To me this is the best example of the effects of the debate. Asian markets are up with Market Watch making this comment:

"IG Markets strategist Cameron Peacock said U.S. futures edged higher during Asian trading hours, with Romney “surprisingly putting in a very strong performance.”

I must agree with seenit.

I found the debate very beige, boring, same old stuff only they were standing side by side. They need to get after each other. They were way too polite.
