Olin Chemical plant reports minor acid spill

Equipment failure was blamed for a minor hydrochloric acid spill at the Olin Chemical plant in Augusta, according to an incident report filed by the company with the National Response Center.

The spill occurred about 9 a.m. Friday at the plant at 2402 Doug Barnard Parkway, the report said, and was caused by a leak in an acid loading line.

The acid was limited to the ground near the leak, and a containment pit designed to prevent spills from spreading. No injuries or evacuations were reported.
