Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

A RANT ABOUT THE Republican VP candidate. How can we trust Paul Ryan to tell the truth to the American people about anything when he can’t even be truthful about his own marathon running record? I forgot; the Republicans ignore the fact checkers.

AL MASON WALKED, just as I thought he would. These folks who work for local government always look out for one another.

I LOVED THE Applause cover. Way to go, Trilogy Gunby!

A RAVE FOR Mayor Deke Copenhaver, Alvin Mason and Corey Johnson. You said you would bring growth and jobs to south Augusta and you did it. Thank you for all the Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Fred’s stores. We have one on every corner -- some less than 2 miles apart. We need jobs that pay benefits such as insurance, retirement and a pay rate above minimum wage. We must do better. We are homeowners and pay taxes. Do better, elected officials. Thanks for nothing.

A RAVE FOR University Hospital. Thanks to Robbin on the fourth floor. She is a very kind, and patient person. She really took excellent care of me during my stay. I have never been in the hospital before but she made sure I was in good hands. She truly gave me her time and alleviated my fears after surgery. You are the best, Robbin.

HOW COULD YOU PICK a company to run The Patch with no financial solvency when there were legitimate companies waiting in line? And then how could you pull the plug on the Kellys who really care about that important institution? When all they asked for is the same thing you and I would ask for if we lease a home or apartment: serviceable plumbing, heating, air, no holes in ceiling or roof.

AUGUSTA RADIATION Oncology employs a band of angels. They treated me with love and compassion as I went through my treatment. Gina, Amber, Brenda, GiGi and Colleen – you rock!

IT IS A PARENT’S responsibility to send their children to college, not the government.

THE DECISION TO JOIN all the entities I really can’t grasp but a giant rant for how it went down. Dr. Azziz, if it walks like an inconsiderate decision, talks like an inconsiderate decision and smells like an inconsiderate decision, it is a foul way to do business.

The $76 Medical Commons is

The $76 Medical Commons is about to start construction in the Medical District.. The $112 million dental school opened in September of 2011, and the $76 million Medical Commons/$1 million Laney Walker pedestrian park should both start before December 2012.. Almost $200 million invested within an very small part of the Medical District.. This is the type of construction the community must demand from the leaders of Augusta over the next decade. Large to small clusters of economic opportunity spread around the entire city.. The Augusta/North Augusta master plan, Richmond County master plan, Augusta Regional Industrial Park/General Perry Smith pkwy, and Augusta Corporate Park master plan are four good examples..

http://appweb.augustaga.gov/planning_zoning/plazid_display.asp?zID=4391

Rave 4... I also think the local officials can do even more, but Publix, Target, etc don't just open up anywhere... They need the right amount of surrounding income, traffic, etc.. Not including the Rockwood, Starbucks, and multiple construction projects at the Augusta Regional... There's still the Hampton Inn hotel underway on Gordon Hwy, Waffle House on Tobacco rd, 2k SQ FT retail building at 3027 Deans Bridge rd, Five Guys coming to the Colony Plaza, etc in South Augusta...

Help me out here please...when he says this...

High unemployment and sluggish growth prompted the Federal Reserve last week to announce several major steps to boost the economy. Chairman Ben Bernanke said the Fed will buy $40 billion of mortgage-backed securities a month until there is “substantial” improvement in the job market.

Where in sam hill is that 40 billion coming from....????

Why coffee in the am....

It Boosts Your Speed, But Not Your Skill—Depending on Your Skill Set

Full size
Johann Sebastian Bach loved him some coffee. So did Voltaire, Balzac, and many other great minds. But the type of work they did didn't necessarily get a boost from their prodigious coffee consumption—unless their work was so second-nature to them that it felt like data entry.

The general consensus on caffeine studies shows that it can enhance work output, but mainly in certain types of work. For tired people who are doing work that's relatively straightforward, that doesn't require lots of subtle or abstract thinking, coffee has been shown to help increase output and quality. Caffeine has also been seen to improve memory creation and retention when it comes to "declarative memory," the kind students use to remember lists or answers to exam questions.

It is interesting to read about coffee & what it does to your brain....

Last night on the news...

This really bothers me...
On the news last night I saw where some went online & contributed to either the Rep. or Dem party --THEY THOUGHT---but what they actually did was send $$$ to an individual who put up a web page almost identical to the real thing.....THOUSANDS of $$ went the wrong way....on their page was a very small disclaimer saying they were not connected to the politics that site represented.....vveeery small & most didn't see it...

We have people rioting in the streets in many countries over a silly video----we have folks ripping off others day in & day out.....how can anyone THINK we won't have some limits-restrictions-etc. in the future...it will come ......just because of a few idiots.

Yep, I found where they hide

Yep, I found where they hide the wine at Chateau Elan. I'm trying to act kind of European and like I know something about wine. I'm Anthony Bourdain today. I get paid to travel to nice places, eat the food and get drunk. Now y'all know I'm just kidding and I'm working hard in case my boss is reading.

Its called quantitative easing. or in layman's terms firing up the printing presses.

Lets make that a national slogan. America, firin' up the printin' presses since... oh dang, I think Nixon.

Devaluing our currency = Devaluing our debt to the Chineeeeese = wiping out the savings of ma and pa kettle

Fun fact. The Federal Reserve is ran by transnational banks.

The printing press.

Unlike us, when the federal government needs more money they can raise taxes, borrow it, or print it.

As money is printed, each dollar (the new ones and the old ones) have less value than before the printing took place. So, when they print this money, your wealth declines and prices of the goods and services you buy will go up.

Have a nice day!

Amen SeenIt ...

SeenIt, you are 100% correct about the parents responsibilities regarding college ... but please let me add before someone jumps on the "some people are too poor to pay for their children's college education" wagon ... Even though as a single mother many years ago I had the financial & emotional support of my family (my parents were awesome) I instilled in my oldest daughters head from a very early age that mommy may not be able to afford for her to go to college so she needed to try as hard as she could to make good grades & get a scholarship to pay for college. Proudly, because of the help of my family, my oldest daughter graduated from high school in 2001 with HONORS & DISTINCTION. So being poor is an excuse & that is not acceptable. But you notice a key word used throughout my comment? FAMILY!!!

You see not only was I a single mother, I was a 16 year old single mother. I did not get welfare, food stamps, housing, Medicaid, free daycare, WIC or any other government handout ... my FAMILY stood up & gave me a HAND UP ... because as my late father always said whenever any of his children needed his & our mother's assistance "That's what families are for".

Bernanke! Lol ... a friend of

Bernanke! Lol ... a friend of mine a few weeks ago was complaining about all the spam/junk mail she gets through email. She proceeded to say she had received an email from Bernanke stating that he had money for her if she would provide him with her bank account routing number & account number. I laughed about how stupid that was. Then I told her she should have replied to the email by saying "You first Benny!" ... then I told her at least she didn't get the kind of junk mail I get every day for "male enhancement drugs, penile pumps & hot chicks that want me to click here & see their photos" ... I mean, how many MEN do you know named KAREN? :p

River ... bring me some wine!

River ... I was in your neck of the woods Thursday night ... you probably could sense a disturbance in the force! Lol ... I spent 2 1/2 hours out at Savannah Rapids for a 4-H Club orientation for officers (our youngest daughter joined 4H this year).

Of course now it appears we are going to have to own another damn rabbit for her project. The last little white furry butt bunny we had was evil & chewed a hole in my carpet. But we are assured this bunny is PEDIGREED ... I guess the last one we had was a mutt from the wrong side of the tracks! Hahaha. ... who knew?

CGee ... lived up North, was in the military & you have never drank coffee? That amazes me. I have drank coffee my entire life. No, really, I mean that literally ... my entire life.

My mom said she had to put a teaspoon of coffee in my baby bottle to get me to drink formula (which was homemade back then). I typically drink one cup of coffee every day & always have.

Is that all you can dig up on Paul Ryan.....dang...he must be some heck of a guy....that makes me llike him even more.....☺"

It just shows the depths Democrats will stoop in order to denigrate the opposition. Clinton getting whistled in the Oval Office- no problem. Barney Frank diddling male pages- no problem. Charlie Rangel is a tax cheat, as are a number of Obama staffers to include Tim Geither- no problem. Tom Daschle, Al Franken, on and on.
They are all fine, upstanding and trustworthy, but let Ryan tell what is no more than a fish story, and he is the devil.

I hope y'all see the abject hypocrisy and feel just a little bit ashamed; but I don't have much hope of that.

"But you notice a key word used throughout my comment?....

...FAMILY!!! "

I couldn't possibly agree more, KSM.

The family has always been the fundamental building block of our society. Your family teaches you values, ethics, morality, survival skills, and the practical aspects of getting through life. To one degree, or another, the family teaches you academic skills and the value of a good education.

All of that said, maybe the three most important things the family teaches children is the wonder of God, the importance of believing in yourself, and the absolute security of knowing you'll always have somebody watching your back. That no matter who else might fail you, your family always stands with you.

If you believe these things and understand them, you won't have any trouble understanding why the ultra-left has adopted all of the positions they push which are intended to destroy the family unit and devalue the family's place in society. They want the government to replace the family as the central focus of peoples' attention, their dependence, and their trust. It's just another step (but a necessary one) as they march the Country towards fascism and communism.

There could be reasons so

There could be reasons so called "fact checkers" are ignored.

Some are blatantly biased.

Some are actually funded by one side, (paid to be biased).

This begs the question: Why is Ryan's misspeak so much more important to obvious democrats than the multitude of lies spoken by Obama?

Family is for life ...

Harley ... you defined it better than I did.

Teaching your children to never give up no matter what obstacles they may face, that's it is okay to lose as long as you demonstrate good sportsmanship, that long after your friends are gone you will still have your family, that family is not just mommy, daddy & siblings ... it includes grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc ... value them & love them.

My father told me until his death when I was 27 years old "You're my HAUS (horse) if you never win a race!" That pretty much says it all. <3
