The Augusta Branch NAACP and the Paine College Chapter will hold a march and vigil Thursday to commemorate the anniversary of the execution of Troy Davis, a Georgia death row inmate who was convicted of murder in the 1989 shooting of Savannah Police Officer Mark MacPhail.

Sentenced to death in 1991, Davis maintained his innocence until he was executed by lethal injection on Sept. 21, 2011. Several prominent politicians and leaders, including President Carter, called upon the courts to give Davis a new hearing, which was granted in 2010 to hear evidence that some witnesses had recanted their testimony identifying Davis as the killer. The court upheld his conviction and the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles denied Davis clemency.

The march will begin at 6 p.m. at the Paine College library and end at the college chapel for a support the NAACP National moratorium against the death penalty, an organization press release said.

“The NAACP is asking citizens, churches, Greek organizations, youth groups from throughout the community, join them and the Paine College Chapter in this tribute by keeping Mr. Davis memory alive,” the release said.

Convicted Cop murderer remembered by the NAACP

Just some facts
Complements of Wiki.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Davis

"Troy Anthony Davis Davis aka RAH (Rough As Hell) (October 9, 1968 – September 21, 2011)[1][2] was an American man convicted of and executed for the August 19, 1989, murder of police officer Mark MacPhail in Savannah, Georgia. MacPhail was working as a security guard at a Burger King restaurant when he intervened to defend a man being assaulted in a nearby parking lot. During Davis's 1991 trial, seven witnesses testified they had seen Davis shoot MacPhail, and two others testified Davis had confessed the murder to them among 34 witnesses who testified for the prosecution, and six others for the defense, including Davis. Although the murder weapon was not recovered, ballistic evidence presented at trial linked bullets recovered at or near the scene to those at another shooting in which Davis was also charged. He was convicted of murder and various lesser charges, including the earlier shooting, and was sentenced to death in August 1991.

2011-1991 = 20 years... but I would rather the extra safe guards in place to make sure an innocence person is not executed.

They are holding a vigil for

They are holding a vigil for a man who is black, not a man who is innocent. Okay...I'll go ahead and say it....who cares? Go ahead and congregate. Nobody cares. We're just glad there's one less murderer on the face of this planet. While y'all are walking around around Paine College, my wife and I will be down at the Bell Auditorium.

Just more fuel to cause

Just more fuel to cause racial problems.
They strive for a reason to stir things up.

Questions

Why Augusta instead of Savannah where it occurred 20 years?

Why not even the execution place where he was put down for murdering a LEO?

Why pick Augusta?

Would it have anything to do with a local Sheriff election, to get out the vote?

When was the last time NA2CP presented an award to any of the many families of slain LEO's, that have died protecting and saving the lives minorities?

Sorry, in my opinion, the NA2CP has long forgotten its mission statement and has become nothing more than a ASSURED Political Voter block arm for the Liberal Democrats.

Troy Is Still Speaking...

THE TURNING
~ a poem both for and by Troy Davis,
composed using only the words
from his last letter to me ~

In this world, each word is life—
The heart of tomorrow
Already touched with believing,
The hope I pray
To bless into being;

For freedom keeps the page of change
Filled with the “if” of God,
Enough that you and I express
What’s fighting to be Cause;

So read this world, this poem, as life—
As Troy, as family—
And thank the better heart that wrote
Each wanted word for me.
