“All of the girls competing are so excited about the pageant,” said Lynn Huff, the pageant director.

There are four competitions in one afternoon. Adults will compete for the Miss Augusta and Miss Savannah River titles, while girls between the ages of 13 and 17 will compete for the titles of Miss Augusta Outstanding Teen and Miss Savannah River Outstanding Teen.

“Miss Augusta is open locally to girls from Augusta in seven surrounding counties,” she said. “Miss Savannah River is open to any young lady in the state. Some have competed in Miss Georgia before.”

The afternoon’s program will feature an opening number highlighting the 2012 winners, all of whom are dancers, and this year’s group of new contestants. Also, there will be on-stage interviews and talent portions in the pageant. There is a swimwear segment for the contestants in the Miss category. The teens do not compete in the swimsuit portion, she said.

Once crowned, the winners will advance to the Miss Georgia and Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen pageants. Winners at the state level advance to the Miss America and Miss America Outstanding Teen pageants.

Huff said she would like to get the word out that the pageant winners are available for public appearances such as nonprofit fundraisers, community events and ribbon-cuttings and might be contacted through the official Miss Augusta/Miss Savannah River Facebook page.

Contestants for the Miss Augusta and Miss Savannah River pageants are Courtney Hinesley, Madison Brett, Lydia Pappas, Austin Carruth, Jessica Jennings, Amanda Scott, Rachel Hendrix, Haley Chadwick, Megan Conner and Kendyl Pennington.

Contestants in the Miss Augusta Outstanding Teen and Miss Savannah River Outstanding Teen are Molly Allen, Dylan Smith, Karson Pennington, Malone Powell, Miley Keyton and Jada Ussery.

The pageant will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenbrier High School. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for ages 10 and younger and are available at the door.
