Rants & Raves

RAVES TO THE Chronicle, University Hospital, Radio Station WAFJ, the Legends Club and all the vendors and other sponsors of the Women’s Wellness Expo. Everything was extremely well organized and very much appreciated!

TO THE MAN IN THE white Dodge Minivan at the Evans Walmart. I pray that no one ever talks to you like you talked to the child in your car. Nothing that he/she did could have been that bad for my family to hear you ranting across two lanes of parked cars! Thank you for a teaching opportunity for me to share with my children on how to NOT treat them.

PEOPLE KEEP FORGETTING that Bush tax cuts for the wealthy are still going on. If the ultra-rich folks would not step forward even during Bush’s watch years ago to help out the economy and create American jobs, where in tarnation can you think that we need to extend such tax cuts for the ultra rich for?

LABRADOR RETRIEVERS must be the gigolos of the dog world since most all pet adoption photos state that the dog in picture is a Lab mix.

HOW CAN WE FEED SOMEONE junk food for 15 years (through food stamps), and now Medicaid is paying for their gastric bypass? Taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for this!

EVERY CITIZEN OF THE USA needs to go see Obama 2016. It answered so many questions that I had. This is bigger than black/white liberal/conservative. The entire country has been duped. The film will leave you speechless.

PLEASE, SCOTT PEEBLES, come to Thomson, Ga., and apply for the chief of police position. The person in charge does not have a clue and is not state certified. Please help.

RANT TO THE Board of Regents. The board decided that the use of “Augusta” would project a community or regional school and not the national prominence they wanted. If this board had only looked 100 miles north they would see Clemson University, which shares its name with a village much smaller than Augusta yet has both national and international prominence that GRU will never achieve in our lifetime.

PEEBLES WAS most qualified to be sheriff. The cartoon in the paper depicting the nonvoter told a sad story. The next time we think that our vote doesn’t count, think again.

Some of the moviemakers words

The film claims Muhammad was a fraud. An English-language 13-minute trailer on YouTube shows an amateur cast performing a wooden dialogue of insults disguised as revelations about Muhammad, whose obedient followers are presented as a cadre of goons.

It depicts Muhammad as a feckless philanderer who approved of child sexual abuse, among other overtly insulting claims that have caused outrage.

Muslims find it offensive to depict Muhammad in any manner, let alone insult the prophet. A Danish newspaper's 2005 publication of 12 caricatures of the prophet triggered riots in many Muslim countries.

Though Bacile was apologetic about the American who was killed as a result of the outrage over his film, he blamed lax embassy security and the perpetrators of the violence.

"I feel the security system (at the embassies) is no good," said Bacile. "America should do something to change it."

"If the ultra-rich folks

"If the ultra-rich folks would not step forward even during Bush’s watch years ago to help out the economy"

What do you think they do with it, bury it in the back yard? No, they spend it (creating jobs for those supplying what they buy), and invest it.(creating capital for those starting businesses or expanding businesses- in other words, creating jobs)

What you and your ilk want is to first filter it through the government, so they can waste it as they see fit, then what isn't wasted may actually benefit the economy.

The RICH ----- I don't claim to be a fan of

I don't claim to be a fan of Bob Woodwrd but he says that we are in danger of the dollar and ever thing we own losing its value. We are heading for the cliff and no one is minding the store, that Obama has never liked members of congress (and people in general) and never will, thus he has refused even to meet with them..
There could be some truth there and those with money have enough sense to hold on to what they have.

Tullie said, "We have Youth

Tullie said, "We have Youth Challenge Academy. I don't want to support another school with my taxes here in Richmond County..we are taxed enough already."

The Youth Challenge Academy is a place for droupouts run by the National Guard at Ft. Gordon. The military magnet school concept only takes students who want to be there and are well behaved. These are not dropout types. The school in Charleston does consist of 97% minority and poor students, but they are behaved. Almost half are girls.

As far as money, realize they would be taking students from existing Richmond County schools just as the other magnet schools, thus the cost should be a wash. The facts are Richmond County schools have serious problems with discipline and academic success in many schools. It's possible this would work. Nothing else has.

River, interesting to say the least. You figured it had to happen. But, I thought football would be the driving force and it's not included.

JTF, 5 ACC games is a nice

JTF, 5 ACC games is a nice start. Plus with the new $50 million exit fee to leave the ACC, nobody is leaving for the Big 12 or SEC. This also locks Notre Dame in and it's probably a step to full membership with football. Pretty big news.

Yes

It is really big news and good news for the ACC. Once these stupid playoffs begin, you will have to belong to a conference. I'm surprised they didn't go Big 10. More money.

Florida

Hey, kind of neat that Azziz is in the running at Florida. It reminded me of the stories about Fred (What, me worry?) Russell going down to interview for county manager of Sarasota County. The whole interview process and vote was done in public. Fred got one vote. Here is a link:

No Longer in the Running

If you type sarasota russell in the search bar at the top of the page you get several stories of the saga.

Allhans Said....

"I wonder if Hillary cares that an even smaller group of Americans made this horrid film. Shouldn't we be granted the same amount of tolerance?"

It may be something Hillary might say, but if she did it would not make any sense whatsoever.

Some American citizen exercising his Constitutional right to freedom of speech has zero relevance to a group of fanatical, radical muslim, America-hating extremists killing American citizens and destroying American property just because they don't like the views of that American citizen.

He/they were obeying the law. He may be a fool, or he may not be. Whatever he is, it's legal here in America and he is in no way responsible for these fanatical lunatics who murder people because they disagree with them.

About dogs

My son in law was preparing to go fishing/hunting last season....while he was getting ready the dogs were eagerly awaiting their chance to go with him....The lab was chosen to to go & he told the sharpei to go back in the house because he was just a puussycat & couldn't take the water.....creeks & etc....evidently the sharpei understood the words because he marched into the house ---walked into the bedroom where my son-in-laws pants were hanging on the bedpost & then he hiked his leg & did a fine job of wetting his pants from top to bottom......well my daughter couldn't wait to call him & say...."The dog says *iss on you"

Funny thing is...this dog doesn't mess in the house EVER--they have a dog door....this time it was done on purpose & I'm sure the dog felt for a dang good reason!! Dogs are smart...☻

As far as money, realize they would be taking students from existing Richmond County schools just as the other magnet schools, thus the cost should be a wash.

This is from your Military Magnet Academy Site:

The Military Magnet Academy is committed to student academics, extracurricular activities, and parent and community involvement.

Now, if they were getting parent involvement they probably would not need to go to a military academy...

The Military Magnet Academy has the following parental programs currently in place: PTSO/PASS Open House Night, ELA/Basic Skills Training in the APEX lab, quarterly newsletters, website, student agendas, telephone call-out system, Parent Utilization Toolkit, Sharp School, monthly parent seminars, and parent conferences. MMA has a military program focusing on character education, leadership, and self-discipline to assist students with academic excellence.

I am sure the parents will just love all that...if the childrens have both parents that is.

You say they have to want to be there..we shoot, if they want to learn and be in school, there again, should be no problem learning in public school.

Now from the Youth Challenge Academy which happens to be based out of Fort Gordon:

The Georgia National Guard ChalleNGe Academy, a preventive rather than remedial youth-at-risk program, targets participants who are unemployed, drug-free and law-free high-school dropouts, 16 to 18 years of age. Core components of the program are citizenship, academic excellence (GED attainment), life-coping skills, community service, health and hygiene, job skills training, leadership followership, and physical training. The five-month Residential Phase, which includes the Pre- ChalleNGe Phase, is followed by a year-long mentoring relationship with a specially trained member from each youth's community.

The Youth ChalleNGe Academy at Fort Gordon is located in Brems Barracks on Fort Gordon, near Augusta, Georgia. It services students from around the State of Georgia and accepts applications year round. Classes begin twice each year, in March and in September, and are continuous for 5 1/2 months. Following the residential phase of the program, the students must complete the 12 month post-residential phase in order to successfully complete the Youth ChalleNGe Program. The Fort Gordon Youth ChalleNGe Academy graduates approximately 425 students each year.

There is more on each..but no point in going on and on.

My point is..we have something similar already set up. Why stretch our already thin resources in the school system by setting up another school when we already have one?

The Military Aspect is Not Punishment

Tullie, I don't view the military aspect of the school as any kind of punishment. As with all magnet schools, it's an honor to go there. The Youth Challenge Academy is for dropouts whom I assume have discipline problems. They end up with a GED if I understand the program.

I view the military magnet concept as a Citadel or VMI for middle and high school kids. There is nothing negative about the program or students.

I think it's been renamed to Georgia Regents Military Academy (GRMA), but some of us local rednecks think it means Grandma.
