Rants & Raves

HERE IS AN IDEA. Why don’t folks pledge to give money to GHSU with the provision that Azziz resigns before they give the money.

FOR ANYONE CONSIDERING turning property they own into Section 8: Please, I urge you to come to our modest neighborhood and see what happened with one of the homes on our street after years of abuse by nasty (really nasty) Section 8 creeps. I will never have a good word to say about Section 8 or those who avail themselves of it, be it landlord or occupant.

RANT FOR ALL THOSE who voted on the Democratic ticket knowing they were Republicans. Thank you for your vote. God has spoken. Let the church say amen.

AS A RESIDENT OF Blythe, I would like to say that our police need some improvement in investigating stolen items. We need better policemen.

I THINK LOCKETT and Copenhaver and some of the writers would sell their souls for the proverbial 30 pieces of silver. If you have no character and no beliefs, you will sell out for anything. That is what Azziz is leading us down the path to.

I WONDER IF RONNIE STRENGTH is going to take that chair with him when he leaves office because that is the only place I have ever seen him.

I SAY IMPEACH Azziz. He has no right to tell us what to do and how to run our colleges. I say leave Augusta in the name of the school.

WHY DO THE media always target smokers when they never target the drunk drivers or the liver conditions of drinking too much? It is always the smokers. I am sick and tired of it.

RAVE FOR SHERIFF Ronnie Strength. At least he knows who should be sheriff of Richmond County. I agree with him 100 percent. We do not need the likes of Roundtree in there. Freddie Sanders is far more qualified man to be sheriff.

AZZIZ THINKS WE are a bunch of backwoods rednecks. So quit worrying about it. He is going to do what he wants to do.

THREE HEADLINES FROM One single Chronicle page, 24 Aug.: “Area jobless rate increased…”; a company “to cut 98 jobs in Waynesboro”; “Lockheed Martin to eliminate 550 jobs.” Remember this madness when you vote.

Section Eight

... housing is publically subsidized; isn't there some kind of listing of who is doing the "neighborhood busting"? I'm guessing if there is, the people wrecking our communities live well and away -- behind a gated entrance-- and safely from the damage they do. Now, that's a STORY the news should be covering.

Yeah, right

Dr Azziz is guilty of many things. One of them is casting pearls before swine. I bet he is more unpopular than (a) Jimmy Carter, (b) Marion Williams and (c) the glorious commissioners. As well he should be given how the infamous name was selected.

I just wanted to clear a bit

I just wanted to clear a bit of misinformation up.. The median income of Durham, NC is only $47,401 which is not $15k ahead of Augusta...

I also noticed two very important facts... Both Jackson, MS and Columbus, GA have lower median incomes and metro populations, but have a performing arts center... Metro Augusta is also safer compared to all of those cities too.

Augusta $39,152
Jackson $37,358
Columbus $35,384

Augusta 556,877(CSRA over 700k)
Jackkson 539,057
Columbus 294,865

The reasons business leave south Augusta...here is one

Lyman & Dover st area

they said...

Jackson made a case for the department doing more to clean up blight in the Dover-Lyman neighborhood first.

“It’s just really disheartening that we’ve got a burnt-out house next to one you guys are trying to sell for a buck and a half. And who the hell wants to buy next to it? Who wants to wake up every morning and look at that? You’ve got a prominent restaurant ready to pull the plug on Richmond County right now because of the area.”

Well now....a new building DOWNTOWN will solve everything heh...RIGHT!

Very Brazen crooks....

An Augusta man nearly got shot after he chased down a lawn mower thief Sunday afternoon, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s report.

Around 4 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Milledge Road, where 41-year-old Brian Welsh said he had seen a man take a lawn mower and blower out of his backyard. He said he yelled at the man, who ran away but hung onto the equipment.

Welsh chased the man until he let go of the mower and jumped into the passenger’s side of a blue Ford Expedition. The thief then reached into the glove compartment, pulled out a black pistol and pointed it at Welsh, who gave up the chase.

The Ford was last seen heading north on Milledge Road.

Blinded by the light!!

Some in downtown are blinded by the glow---they can't seem to see the blight-breakins-crime & troubles in other parts of Augusta...

You know the story about the frog in the hot water....as long as it heats up gradually the frog doesn't notice til he is cooked to death....well that is how I see the problems in south Augusta......they are boiling now....the few pockets of decent-caring working folks are suffering....
I hear from family members & friends & it makes me sick....I don't blame Rebel & Dichotomy for sounding off.....

And then......all we hear on here are stats of "other" places--their crime-their downtown growth.......who gives a rats behind--fix this place ...

Good morning though.....I need a rest from here----I might have to call the commish myself...even if I don't vote there.

Per Capita Income v. Median Income

One of the facts noted with the 2010 census about Augusta is the number of households decreased, but the population stayed about the same. It was said that was due to the increase in the number of children. It makes sense because Richmond County has a lower per capita income than Muscoggee, Chatham, Bibb or Fulton Counties while as Countyman points out the median income is in some cases higher. What do you think it all means?

What does it mean you say...

I think the stats come on to diffuse the real problems right here in the CSRA...who really cares about stats when you have to bolt down your farm equipment from crooks....who cares about shining new buildings in downtown when you are driving over deep potholes everyday....

Diffuse & deflect...that is the game...

I hope the people realize that a Sheriff is more than a policeman--he also deals with the commish & the budget needed to combat problems....this is VERY important folks.....you need a man to stand up to the commish & fight for every dollar----Sanders does know all the players---very well I might add..
Yes it will be interesting to watch which way the big boys go with this ..
Strange bed fellows ---yeh.

About Government Offices in Downtown Areas

One story today is discussing putting a government office in a former club in the Laney Walker area. Plus, there was an article yesterday about government offices being rented over the city from private owners. If THIS is our plan to revitalize areas, I can see the future where these buildings have to be carefully guarded. If you've ever seen an American embassy in a hostile foreign country with high walls, sandbags and machine gun positions for Marine Guards you get the idea.

Where did this come from?

Countyman posted the population of "Augusta" as 556,877. Where in the world did he get this figure? How many counties did he annex into Augusta?

Seenit/Trouble

Saw your comments yesterday about all babies starting out as female. Interesting. It reminded me of a joke.
A guy runs into a "women who looks very familiar. Ray? Is that you? What happened? Ray says, well, I had a sex change operation. Guy says, wow, that must have been painful. Ray says, not so much. Guy say, didn't it hurt when they pumped up your chest? Ray, says not so much. Guy says, but how about when they cut off your......? Ray says, didn't hurt that much. Guy says, so no pain at all? Ray says, well it was kind of painful when they stuck the straw in my ear and sucked out half my brain.

Old Nightclub Sold for $332 thousand

If you want to see the deceit in Augusta up close, look at what was paid for a closed-up, decrepit, former nightclub building in a bad area of town in order to build a new building for the city’s Housing and Community Development Department. They justified the valuation because of the value of the business and furniture. Heh...you can't make this up. The building should have been condemned.

Rave For Sheriff Ronnie

Rave For Sheriff Ronnie Strength. The people of Richmond County (especially the black communities) are glad you are retiring. No more paper - pushing sheriff. We don't need a lawyer for sheriff things have changed since the 1980s when Freddie Sanders was chief, we need a person with recently job experienced with the sheriff's department Roundtree is the best man for the job.

Countyman's stats...

They're off. He cites 556,877 as the Augusta population, with the CSRA as a whole bringing it to over 700,000.

However, the whole of Richmond County is just a hair over 200,000.
Augusta's population is 196,494 according to 2011 data.
The Augusta MSA (aka, most of the CSRA) population is 556,877 as of the 2010 census.
The whole CSRA's population was 709,433 in the 2010 census.

Commissioner Guilfoyle

Commissioner Guilfoyle....yes, I initiated a work order with Engineering Maintenance for the pothole. They came out about 10 days later in the A.M. and shoveled some dry asphalt into the pothole and patted it down with a shovel. Went to get my mail about noon. Saw the loose asphalt. Went down about 6 P.M. to drag my trash can 1/4 of a mile back to the house. ALL, yes every piece, of the asphalt was splattered all over the road and NONE of it was still in the pothole.

Called Engineering Maintenance again the next morning. The lady on the phone seemed VERY irritated with me that I wanted to initiate another work order. She said she would. That has been several weeks ago. Ain't seen nothing yet. Also report potholes in front of the water plant, and a HUGE one about 50 yds. south of Pine Hill Church in the southbound lane.

Also, reported to Augusta Cares the fact that the county long armed bush hog broke a chunk out of my culvert pipe and cracked the pipe along with the fact that the water releases from the water plant next door had eroded around my driveway culvert and the water was actually coming out around the outside of the pipe on the sides and the bottom during these releases. Engineering sent a guy out who agreed and said they would replace the culvert pipe with a larger, corrugated heavy duted plastic pipe. Nothing ever happed. After 6 weeks or so I called Augusta Cares again and was told to call Engineering and speak with David Smith. He told me he would check into it. Did not hear from him. Called him back two weeks later and he told me that he looked at the pipe and it was okay and that they did not need to do anything. Hope y'all can stand the lawsuit when my 32,000 pound motorhome collapses the pipe because I have it all documented and recorded.

I should not have to call a commissioner to get BASIC service. After a while you just get tired of fooling with incompetence and poor service and then it is "fight or flight" time. I ain't decided yet which I am going to do.
