Local Walmart and Sam’s Club stores raised $191,618 for the Georgia Health Sciences Children’s Medical Center through a six-week Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals campaign.
The funds were raised mostly $1 at a time through donations taken at the register. This is the 25th year Walmart and Sam’s Club have been raising funds for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Six Georgia Health Sciences administrators have been selected to participate in the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Augusta program: Cathleen Caldwell, the Rev. Jeff Flowers, Tiffany McGuire, Dr. Christopher McKinney, Jim Mumford and Mickey Willford.
The 10-month program enrolls high-achieving members of the community to develop leadership skills. The six class members from GHSU are among 36 who have been selected to participate in the program.
Bradleigh Carpenter has received the Vera Lucille Vincent Scholarship at Georgia College and State University, a four-year Watson Brown scholarship and the Zell Miller Hope Scholarship. She is the daughter of Marc and Maria Carpenter, a 2012 graduate of Greenbrier High School, and Miss Greenbrier High School.
Jeannie Tatum Daniel has graduated from the University of Georgia.

AP Scholars with Distinction (scores of at least 3.5 on all AP exams, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams) are: Kerrie Edmondson,, Mary Elizabeth Goodell, Ann Elizabeth Gore, Jay Hartmann, Mollie Hartmann, Drew McCartney, Jep McNair, Marshall Paulk, Frances Plunkett, Kelly Smith, Lindsay Williamson and Catherine Zecha.
Anne Elizbeth Gore was named National Scholar, with scores of at least 4 on all AP exams and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
Air Force Airman Darius D. Lester graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Derrick and Andrienne Martin and a 2011 graduate of Cross Creek High School.
Money for literacy
Savannah River Remediation presented a $5,000 check to the Augusta Technical College Foundation to help fund GED scholarships, which helps students acquire their high school diploma equivalency diploma through the college’s Adult Literacy Program.
