Rants & Raves

OUR PRISONS ARE packed with nonviolent offenders who should not be there. We’re paying thousands to keep prisons open and to pay guards when those nonviolent people could pay a fine and get back to their jobs and paying taxes instead of using up ours. Change the laws.Murderers go to prison, nonviolent offenders don’t.

TAKE A LOOK ON the street at all of the steel and aluminum not going to recycling because of that stupid new law. What happened to “Save the Earth … Recycle”? You couldn’t control a few copper thieves so you ruined it for all honest scrappers and the Earth.

KEEP THE PRESSURE on the Board of Regents and Administration at GRU to change this horrible name.

WHAT A PRECIOUS picture on the front page on Aug. 18! Sara Caldwell caught pure love and pride with Ashleigh’s expression as she looks at her husband, Army Spc. Jared Bland. It should be “picture of the year.”

WHERE DOES ONE GO to start a class-action suit against Emperor Azziz and the Board of Rejects – oops, sorry – Board of Regents?

ANOTHER GHSU board member resigns because he was unhappy with the new name and the process behind it. Instead of working to make the best of a bad/sad situation, just take your ball and bat and go home. It really sets a bad example, in my opinion. Board members are selected on the many attributes they bring to the table. Being a quitter is not one of them.

AUGUSTA UNIVERSITY of Science and Medicine would be an all-inclusive description of the school’s mission and incorporate our hometown “Augusta.” It also has the added feature of spelling (well, text-message style) the word awesome, “AUSM.”

THE SHERIFF’S RACE was a problem from the very beginning. The voting public having to select a party to vote, every jackleg jumping in the race without a prayer of winning, Sheriff Strength not standing up for his obvious pick, and now we are faced with the possibility of having a sheriff who has a shady past. I’m looking for a place to move. I’m fed up!

FROM THE OUTSIDE looking in, it looks easy. Just call off the college merger and keep the old names. Azziz will go quietly and promptly by himself.

Government can find no problem

... they cannot overreact to with ill-thought out laws. Rants one and two are merely the latest illustration of this principle.

Murderers going to prison

... they occasionally do; however, there are judges to prevent that happening. If the trial judge doesn't, there are endless appeal courts whose seeming singular mission is to find some arcane reason to let them back into the community-- before the parole board can.

Prisons

I am torn about the overcrowded prison situation. Violent offenders should surely be incarcerated. But what are you going to do with the folks who break into your home or vehicle? I can't see giving them a free pass. The rant assumed that they would pay a fine but if they are stealing from you then I doubt they have a job or are in the frame of mind to want to make amends. Something needs to be done but I have not seen anything on the table that I can support.
Here in California the state is going to release a lot of criminals who are non-violent offenders, just non-violent thieves and people with non-violent drug related crimes. Some of these people have learned a lesson, for sure, but some will be repeat offenders. The repeat ones should be thrown in the can for sure.

Currently there are a lot of

Currently there are a lot of thieves that get free passes. Burglary should be a crime where there is a minimum time spent in jail. Nine times out of ten the person goes back out and repeats the crime. It can also be dangerous and/or deadly. I had several burglaries and there has been NO attempt to pay restitution. The person basically got off free.

What cities have lost the most jobs.....

The two metro regions with the largest decrease in employed residents — Brunswick and Dalton — are located in Georgia. While the two areas are nearly as far apart as areas can be and remain in the same state, both are a product of a worsening trend in the Peach State. In June 2009, unemployment in Georgia was 10.5%, the 14th highest rate in the country. As of June of this year, the rate has only slightly decreased to 9.6%, making it the eighth worst in the country.

In some of the regions on our list, many of the jobs were lost in the past 12 months alone. Dalton, Ga., lost roughly 4,400 jobs over the past three years, but more than 2,800 of those jobs were lost between June 2011 and June 2012. In other regions very few jobs were lost last year. Prescott, Ariz., lost 5,140 jobs in the past three years, but just 137 of those were lost in the past recorded 12 months.

Missed it again

But one of these days I hope to hit the road and go to all the places I have passed and wanted to stop. And we did it legal too. Averaged just under 60 MPH for the trip.

Truck drivers can see things..

I know yall can see a lot from your elevated seat..in fact a driver just spotted a missing student in our area...car ran off road ...

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith tells the Gwinnett Daily Post that Ayers’ vehicle was found on its side, about 40 feet from the road. Smith said it appeared that the vehicle hit a tree.

The vehicle was spotted and reported by a passing semitrailer driver who could see the undercarriage from his elevated position.

Sad ...I kow how busy 316 is I'm surprised someone didn't see this happen...too late to save him..

We have Prepass, an electronic device that sends the truck registration to the scale house when you pass over scales built into the road. If everything is good you get a green light in the truck and don't have to stop. And while I was driving all the scales were closed.

Last Post From Yesterdays R&R.

Just had to re-post it.

Need Profiling Help

As you all know, since the new AC change allowing Uppers and Downers and the Point system, since the very first day there has been and IT who has given a Downer on every post. If the Lord Prayer was post it would receive a Downer.
This IT has to be a subscriber to do this. Now look at this fact. It has never made a post on here. He has no Avatar or known User name, all IT will do is click the Down Thumb.

Why do I know this, if it was to make a post his points would be higher that mine.
Lets try an profile this IT.
Is IT a loner!
Is IT a sad individual that has no love for anything!
Does IT have a mental problem!

Lets inform IT that the gays have come out of the closet, made a flag, have marches, yell the happy Pride and for sure let us know who there are.
So IT can't be a gay!
Believe IT doesn't believe in God!

Lets give IT a User name "Downer" and just ask IT to one time post on any of his Downers why he felt it was deserved.

IT seems to single out a few of us more than others! Why?

I hope this will not turn out to be a Downer Cold Case. We have some real good Forensict type people on here, so solving this in the closet case should be easy.

A non-violent criminal is

A non-violent criminal is STILL a criminal. They are still thieves, burglars, and robbers.....the lowest scum of society. And the ONLY reason they are non-violent is because they haven't YET broke into a house where the innocent homeowner is home, or the person they are robbing does not resist, or someone hasn't seen them stealing and tried to stop them. The only problem I have with locking up non-violent criminals is that we don't do it often enough and for long enough. The PRIMARY REASON for a criminal justice system is to serve as a deterrent against committing crime and the ONLY way that works is if the punishments are so drastic that stealing and robbing just aren't worth the chance of getting caught. First offenders for robbery, theft, burglary, etc. should get 10 years and have to do every day of it. I assure that the crime rates would nose dive when the boyz started disappearing off of the streets....instead of like it is today when they show back up 2 months later bragging about being in the "joint". Yes, I would be willing to pay more taxes to build prisons if the judges would promise to keep them full. There is no such thing as a non-violent criminal.....just CRIMINALS that have not become violent YET.

CG, re your 8:51

... That there is some sad wretch out there whose singular pleasure in life is giving my posts a thumbs down bothers me not at all; if that is what gives him or her pleasure, have at it. I posted yesterday, "G-d bless America," and predicted it would get a thumbs down. It got two.

We can only give one thumb up or down just like everyone else.

I am thinking of buying a Taser though...
