Rants & Raves

INADEQUATE PARKING AND DORMS, staff cuts, tuition raises every semester, add-on fees for everything, chronic absenteeism of the professors resulting in most courses being taught by students, staff afraid of being caught saying anything or making a decision ... and everyone’s energized to demonstrate a name change? Really?

THE PHOTO OF kindergarten kids carrying backpacks shows backpacks big enough for three kids. What do kindergartners need that’s so big?

IF ROMNEY DIDN’T say Obama is a socialist, he should have.

RAVE FOR MARY, who works at the North Augusta Walmart in the garden section, is always so nice and friendly to all of her customers. She is always willing to help others. Chris, who works in the jewelry section is also an asset to this Walmart.

TO THE SWEET LADY who found my grandmother at Rite Aid on Wheeler Road: Thanks to your quick action she was unharmed. She is 88 and suffers from Alzheimer’s. Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude to you. You were her guardian angel that day.

RANTS TO THE middle-aged guy at the Y who takes the Metro section of the Chronicle to the bathroom every morning. The paper is for all YMCA members. No one wants it after you’ve taken it to the toilet!

T-SPLOST IS ONLY one month passed and politicians are already looking for excuses for what they’ll mess up next. The latest is that spending estimates were made earlier, so now who knows how much they’ll spend. There’s never an end to this. Meanwhile, in the 13-county CSRA, nine regions were smart and did NOT pass the additional taxes on themselves. And three regions were dumb and voted to take money out of their own pockets and hand it over to politicians.

I GUESS THE PEOPLE of Richmond County are happy now that there will be a new sheriff in town. Let’s see if he can clean up the city with his buddies gathered around him. Mr. Roundtree, I hope you know that being a leader is more than saying OK.

TO PARENTS who keep letting your precious children wander off ... watch your kids! I’m so sick of reading about all these toddlers drowning because YOU don’t want to watch them. If you don’t want them don’t make them!

President Obama down in his heart believes in socialism as the appropriate economic system for the world. But, he recognizes that there are millions of small business owners and millions of employees of large businesses who cannot accept socialism for their fate. So Obama has fashioned the old, reliable standby economic system of fascism to be his solution to the deep, deep recession we are in now. Fascism is an economic system whereby there is nominal private ownership of corporations and small businesses; but where the federal government controls the decisions of how these large and small businesses operate. The corporate and individual income tax rate is just the beginning of how Obama got his hands inside the operation of business. He plans to continue it, and increase federal government power over the means of production of goods and services. His target audience is college students and Social Security beneficiaries. Hopefully, there are enough to see through Obama's lies to let freedom ring, to let us return to personal liberty and personal responsibility. This is our last chance.

Contrasts & Comparisons

The amount of homework (& schoolwork) for children is unbelievable & starts way early. Kindergarten was optional when I was a kid & in first grade we learned ABC's, 123's, how to spell our first name & colored. And ironically the graduation rates were much higher. Go figure.

Kindergarten

I was in Germany in 1956 on an Army base for kindergarten. I already knew how to write my name because one of my dad's army buddies (Sgt Williams) showed me how to do it on a brown paper bag. I remember being amazed that the letters I was learning to use actually meant something.
During class one morning we heard many planes going overhead and then we practiced going under our desks in case of an air raid. Come to find out that was during the Hungarian crisis with Russia. I was also sent into the hall to stand by myself as punishment for holding hands with this cute girl during story time. From what I remember it was worth every bit of it.

All of this was discussed and predicted at length before the vote.

I don't see that our school

I don't see that our school system doing a great job and maybe they need to do more earlier. But, I just can't see the need for a lot of homework and books at age 4 & 5. They need to be learning respect, fair play, working well together, etc. all of which can be learned without books.

Actually, 3 and 4 year olds

Actually, 3 and 4 year olds are still babies and should be at home with their mothers. Mom's have a lot to teach their children before they go to school. And parents should also give a great deal of thought before sending their children to be educated in Babylonia (public education).

And Ranter #2..The answer is...Their nap mats.

Your check is NOT in the mail.

In the time Obama has been in office, the federal debt has increased by $4.939 trillion--more than the total national debt of about $4.1672 trillion accumulated by ALL of the 41 U.S. presidents from George Washington through George W. Bush combined.

We have a crisis of debt and if you vote for Barack Hussein Obama, you are contributing to the destruction of this country. You are not going to be given any money. He is not sending you a check from the wealthy people in America. He lied to you; he lied to America. Don’t be fooled again.

Oh brother...

It really amazes me how many people "know" how the sheriffs election will fall.....the same folks who "knew" SP would be voted in ......I'm wondering why these people don't rush out & buy lotto tickets....since they "know" the future .....

Many are unhappy with the President......that hope & change didn't work .......a good paying job is what most want & need.......kinda hard to have a feel good attitude when your kids are hungry.

Chicago is not looking so friendly--Mayor is on the hot seat..

I’m talking about the kind of hate that led a young man to shoot his mother to death because she nagged him, as well as the kind of hate that shows a blatant disregard for life, as when an alleged gang member fired a gun into a crowd, killing a 7-year-old girl who was standing on the street with her mother selling candy.

That’s the question at the heart of the violence that has made living in some Chicago neighborhoods as dangerous as living in Afghanistan or Iraq.

But on Monday, when Mayor Rahm Emanuel took the hot seat on “The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley,” he again tried to spin the violence plaguing the city.

“Why is the murder rate up 38 percent?” Pelley asked.

Jake, your remembrances are

Jake, your remembrances are great warm and fuzzies. It makes us all think of our childhood.

Willow, good point kids should be home at 3 and 4 being loved by their mothers instead of in some daycare type deal with a flowery name.

SeenIt, passive aggressiveness often seeps into the comments. I just hope some don't stay home because their candidate, Peebles, got beat in the run-off.

Finally, about the guy taking the metro section of the paper to the Y bathroom everyday, that sounds like a setting for a practical joke. Somehow I see peanut butter being used in the prank.

UGA, SC and Florida All Looked Bad

All three of those teams looked bad in the openers. Plus, Vandy was the one SC beat, so maybe the SEC East is weak this year and all of them have a shot. At least Carolina is a win up on everybody.

Stay at home you say!!!!

That really does bother me.....not just for local races but for the USA....this kind of news turns my stomach,,,

ATLANTA (AP) — Government officials who approved financing for a failed south Georgia ethanol fuel plant that cost taxpayers at least $75 million did so despite repeated warnings and strong opposition by some of the federal overseers who reviewed the projected.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/OIbiRu) reported Sunday that documents obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request show the doubts that were surrounding the Range Fuels plant at Soperton, Ga., before it obtained government backing.

Located about 80 miles west of Savannah, the Range Fuels operation was proposed to transform wood chips into ethanol fuel, but it closed last year without producing any usable ethanol. Taxpayers lost at least $75 million in loan guarantees and grants.

At least Romney KNOWS business....I'll admit he wasn't my first choice but I will bet my paycheck he will do a better job......

Will get off the box now......

I remain conflicted as to whether I do good or harm. The Hypocratic Oath, kinda. You are the first to comment one way or the other. I would be pleased to hear from those who object so strongly, clicking on the thumbs down, before I shut the door in exile for 7 days. And all this on the cusp of the DNC convention in, none other than the deep South, Charlotte. It may kill me to be in a self imposed exile while listening to the predictable dribble from the left. Oh excuse me, i have to go set out my empty chair by the road.

If we cared a rats behind about thumbs down .....some of us would be LONG gone....it means NOTHING!!! NOTHING.....that has caused more bitterness & hate than anything they have ever put on here & yes I did say that to Sean.....
We will always have a difference of opinion with others.......on here.....that is life.....I really don't see Augusta more divided than any other town .......the politics in Atlanta runs almost the same way....why some want to place the CSRA on the top I'll never know...

Just Drive On, Don't feel like the Lone Ranger being picked on

I had a run of thumbs downs the other day when I was belittling our space program. I pointed out going to the moon and planets in our solar system my be possible, but that's it without hundreds of years of basic scientific research to learn how to bridge the light years separating galaxies and so on. We grew up watching Star Trek and Star Wars and some actually believe all that is right around the corner.

It's fine to fire up our little bottle rockets at the moon, but don't think you can use such technology to visit other solar systems and galaxies. Man, I saw all kinds of comments disputing what I said....until finally about a day later, finally one poster said he thought he knew what I meant. The light bulb was starting to go off. Made my day, even with all the thumbs downs and all for one person to grasp my meaning.

I find the psychology of getting thumbs downs is it's often one of frustration at the point brought up, not that it's necessarily wrong.

Sean Told Me Something That Hit True

In one of my many disputes with Sean, the moderator, he spoke the absolute truth. He said we need these comments more than they need us. That's the truth, no one is going to go running after you to hear what you say. Many of us go through these stages where we think we are so important that we are indispensable. The truth is, we're not. Someone will always come along.

But back to my story of the conversation with Sean, then I was suspended for 6 weeks, ha. No one missed me either other than a few friends. I even had a couple of emails bascially making fun of me not being on the board anymore. Heh.

I may move on to other internet sites eventually, but for right now, the Chronicle is perfect for me.

Thank you both

I feel better. I hope I have something positive, or at the very least, thought provoking, to offer. I shall remain. I will, however, strive to be more thoughtful like Harley, or respectful like Cobalt, and hope to arrive at the level of discourse of River, or KSM , or InChristLove. You know, we should all strive to improve, learn, grow, and broaden our horizons. I guess I am growing reflective as Brain weariness sets in. Damn insomnia kicked in last night. Haven't been asleep since 7:00 am yesterday. Probably cause of the holiday and knew there would be no one open on a holiday for me to visit. At any rate. Got 3 Camillias replanted. Cleaning up an area near the hacienda. Bout to go build a fire and burn some of these limbs what keep falling. East bound and down...

Wood chips

Won't we run out of trees eventually.....just like you have said B4 about burning the steps for heat.....the only thing I see that would work is solar heat.....& I have seen some solar panels in the North Ga mountains......fields of them....but anyway we will change when we have to do it......that makes miracles happen.....if gas continues to rise that might be sooner than we think.

KSM has been proven to be anything but Batcrapcrazy™. We need a Peabody Award for the most amazing internet commenter of the year for her. She rocked the establishment like it’s never been rocked. A certain powerful local official met her and said…. “I wouldn’t underestimate that lady.”

On the other hand, Deek, he’s a nice guy™. Heh.
