THOMSON — A 61-year-old Two State Construction worker was killed Wednesday night when he was hit by falling equipment.
Edward Leon Chambers was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m. at University Hospital McDuffie, McDuffie County Assistant Coroner Sammy Purvis said.
Purvis said a bridge crane hoist weighing between 500 and 600 pounds fell, hitting Chambers. His body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta because it was an industrial fatality, authorities said. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will also investigate.
It is one thing when someone dies of their own bad decisions, but it is particularly saddening to see it happen just through bad luck.
There are the elements that make this world go around, the harmony makers and the chaos creators, and somewhere in the mix is fate. Sometimes we have control of the events in our lives and sometimes fate takes us where we're destin to be. My heart goes out to those who witnessed the tragic accident and for those who know and love Mr.Chambers.
