Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

GEORGIA (I.E., ATLANTA) has always believed “anything of importance” in the state should be in Atlanta. They always wanted the medical college of the state. Thus step 1: Build a satellite campus in Athens. Step 2: Change the name of the college so it’s not identified with Augusta. Step 3: Build new and better facilities in other places – closer to Atlanta so Augusta facilities will soon become obsolete. Get it now?

EVEN CATHOLIC BISHOPS have joined in the president’s criticism of Paul Ryan’s plan for America and its total disregard for the social contract with middle America. Ryan is a conservative Roman Catholic Republican; and the American bishops are mostly very conservative and hardly friendly to our moderate president. It adds up to an unwise and radical Romney choice for vice president.

THIS IS A RANT FOR child support recovery. To be the most worthless outfit ever to be established in the history of America. My daughter has been trying to get her child support and back pay for five or six years. Two ex-husbands at $35 a week each and the court lets them get by every time. Please tell me where she can get some help?

HORRIBLE NEW COLLEGE name. Why can’t it be Augusta Regents University?

THE ROMNEY/RYAN team is what this country desperately needs to take action on the economy, deficit and control wasteful spending. This country is drowning in debt and the feelings of pride, dignity, honor and respect have vanished.

AS A GRADUATE OF THE former Augusta College many, many years ago, I feel that renaming it Georgia Regents University is totally ridiculous. Why didn’t someone suggest the University of Azziz or Azziz University, which is what he would have liked? Because none of the members of the Board of Regents live in Augusta, they should have listened to the native Augustans. It seems like Dr. Azziz has them in the palm of his hand. You go, Billy Morris! You’re the best!

THE AUG. 12 COLUMN BY Joe Hotchkiss was both entertaining and brilliant. He hit the proverbial nail squarely on the head. Mr. Azizz should listen to it.

Rant for child support...

The courts are sympathetic with dead beat dad's for some odd reason. If you are in Augusta, don't expect them to do much because they won't. Strange system there.

Social services

...period, are disfunctional. It's not they are pro-deadbeat dad; they don't do anything about deadbeat moms either. Plus, whenever the clown college that is family courts are running to secure their sinecure for another term they always point with pride to the number of 'deadbeat dads' they've thrown in jail. Where they earn no paycheck; in fact they usually lose whatever job they had. They point out the 'deadbeat dads' aren't incarcerated for the debt, but for contempt of court. Yeah? Precisely how many women are arrested for failing to comply with the court's visitation orders?

Catholic Support for Ryan

About some Catholics not supporting Paul Ryan, New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who leads the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, will offer a benediction at the Republican National Convention next week on the night Mitt Romney accepts the GOP nomination. Keep in mind, Joe Biden, who is also Catholic, represents the antithesis of Catholic beliefs. Biden supports same-sex marriage and abortions.

Child support

Sounds like someone made at least two poor choices. Now she and the child(ren) are paying for them. Who picked the fathers?

" Who picked the fathers?"

It surely wasn't the children.

An excellent point you make, augustarookie.

Success and happiness in life (or lack thereof) is largely dependent on individual choices we make as we progress through life.

Other people are not responsible for the poor choices we make, but often they suffer for them.

I agree with Ranter 1, the move is on for MCG, but it is not headed for Atlanta. In fact, many believe that Atlanta will have their own woes in the near future over Ga Tech who is also said to be on the endangered list of a move.

Bad decisions ALWAYS come from neediness

That is so true augustarookie & harley.

Although, I've never met anyone who said, "I purposely set out to make the worst possible decision in a boyfriend or husband." For most, it just happens like a default selection because "it's" been programmed into us. It's all we know. Some of it is genetic, some environmental. We become one of our parents and marry the other.

Bad decisions, while unpleasant, don't have to rule the rest of our lives. Every difficulty brings about possibilities!! There is a way where there is a will. Focus on the solution not the problem. Don't depend on others, particularly unhealthy others, to get any of your needs met.

Rant 2..Whatever are you ranting about?

Top Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin, who is Mr. Romney’s pick for vice president, are close; they were good friends during the years that the cardinal served as archbishop of Milwaukee, from 2002 to 2009. The Cardinal will appear at the GOP convnetion..

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are the privatize GUYS. This is going out to work sites across the country this week, but I wanted to make sure you saw it, too. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan seem to think they're starring some sort of Holywood film with a plot that ends badly for everyone but them and their rich buddies. " The Privatize Guys" want to wave good bye to Medicare, pushing agenda that couldn't be worse for working families. The Ryan budget plan, which Romney has wholeheartedly endorsed in the past and the GOP embraced in its covention platform, would further shift the tax burden from the wealthly to working families, cut Social Security, end Medicare as we know - it an idea the Republican National Committee is embracing in the platform - and gut Medicaid. And it's not just seniors who are getting the shaft. The Ryan Budget also woud terminate the Children's Health Insurance program. They make think this is a Hollywood movie, but for millions of seniors, children and working families, the Ryan Plan means turning our country into an entitlement program for the rich. As the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities put it, this is " Robin Hood in reverse - on steroids." Let's make it clear to Romney and Ryan: you can't turn America into a horror show for working families. We won't let you cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and shift the tax burden from the wealthy to the middle class.

Good morning, y'all! Lemme address this before the heat turns up;

" The Privatize Guys" want to wave good bye to Medicare, pushing agenda that couldn't be worse for working families."

Malarkey! Someone hasn't been paying attention! I suggest you read the ENTIRE proposal before spouting off half cocked about medicare. First of all, medicare is already in trouble, and has been for years. Next, the new proposals only affect those 55 years of age and younger (right now). By the time those folks reach 62, 65, or 70, whichever, there will be another administration in office to try and convince us of even more changes!

It is my understanding that

It is my understanding that President Obama is now transfering funds from Medicare to Medicaid. Wouldn't that be a transfer of wealth since Mediccare has a fee and Medicaid is for the poor and does not have a fee. Not sure if I am right on this but I heard someone talking about it yesterday. Please advise.

CSE

CSE is only as effective as the willingness of the other party. If a NCP doesn't hold a traditional job, the chance of receiving support is slim to none. Many NCPs hide behind under the table jobs and even self-employment. If they are creative and determined enough, they won't pay. Best advice is to figure out how to be or become self-sufficient and IF that money ever comes, treat the kids to some extras. Not supporting children is wrong but don't get your hopes up on the courts being successful because after all, they can't legislate moral values and good character.

Library.

There is nothing more irritating when you are studying to hear somebody popping and smacking gum like a popgun and cow every 2 seconds for an hour. You are not even supposed to CHEW gum in the library, never mind pop it and smack it. I shouldn't have to take time out from a timed computer session to repeatedly ask for a staff member to ask her to stop. (She continued after repeated requests on the part of staff).

Catholic Here

And me and my large Irish Catholic family are all for Romney/Ryan.

Obviously, we as Catholic have a social justice agenda and it's natural for The Church leadership to show some aversion to a fire breather like Ryan. It's all good - we Catholics need to have the debate.

I think that Ryan is a good pick because he is so polarizing that he will perhaps get some of those (conservatives) who do not believe in bending in any of their issues, and who question Mitt's new found convictions on issues such as healthcare and abortion, to have faith in this R&R ticket.

Personally, I don't necessarily understand or like all of Ryan's positions, but I am happy to see him on the national stage - I think that, win or lose, he represents something way larger - the passing of the torch to Gen X in a few short years.

Conflict is therapeutic. It keeps the keeps the mind flowing like a river, nimble and quick.

We need to get eyeball to eyeball here in America and hash this thing out. THAT is the embodiment of the American Spirit, at least in my eyes.

"Conflict is

"Conflict is therapeutic."

Conflict is disruptive! Civil discussions of issues are the embodiment of the American Spirit, and that is as it should be! Why politics has to "change" America from a Constitution abiding government, to a Constitutional rupture of our values and principles is beyond me. Possibly the greatest document ever written has been attacked more, and damaged more by the current administration, than any other time in our history. Support the Constitution of the United States of America, not “the change.”
