Comments from readers:

IN REGARD TO THE name change, I would suggest that people that did not go to Georgia Regents University simply not send money in when they request it this year. When they send out their little requests for money from alumni, I will tell them I did not go there. I went to Augusta College or Augusta State and let that be it. So they can just pass up on all that alumni money.

GHSU SPENT $45,000 on a survey about the name change, and then they ignored the survey. Dr. Azziz needs to go. He needs to go.

THE SOLUTION TO THE problem would be to have Dr. Azziz resign. He has created the problem. He is the problem. He is the negative. Start a movement to get him to resign.

THE $45,000 SPENT ON A phone survey to identify which university name was most popular was an irresponsible waste of money. It’s time to put matters to rest and use the name “University of Augusta.”

IT WOULD SEEM THAT Dr. Ricardo Azziz is out there alone. The omission of Augusta from his name for the new combination of ASU and MCG is ridiculous. Augusta has fought too hard for an identity and now a relative newcomer to the area has managed to push Augusta back into anonymity. Hopefully, some clearer heads will prevail and reverse this naming obviously borne from ignorance.

THIS IS A RANT TO the Richmond County Board of Education: Thank you for the new laser printer in my classroom. No thanks to the 300-copy limit per month. By the time I print my lesson plans (times four) , my daily reports, mandatory tracking, test results, letters to parents, RTI info and Individualized Lessons Plans, I have no copies left to print the math lessons we use in lieu of buying books. No wonder kids can’t do math; neither can the board. Whose relative at the board got this contract?

RANT TO AUGUSTA moviehouses. Where is Dinesh DeSouza’s new movie 2016? It came out Aug. 10. When will it be coming to Augusta?

Name

Has anybody asked what the Athens campus name will be? I have not heard it stated. If the name is not changed, then the Regents have just stolen the Medical College of Georgia from Augusta.

Vacation

I am enjoying a vacation at Lake Siskiyou near Mt Shasta in northern California. With a 16yr old daughter & 13yr old son, you just don't know how many more family vacations there will be in the future.
We have been fishing, swimming, hiking, and golfing.
Today at the golf course I was warming up at the range. I had on shorts and a white Masters golf shirt. Next to me were 2 people who knew each other and I was able to determine that one was a Democrat & the other a Republican. The Dem had a smart know-it-all attitude. So much so that as he was leaving the range he turned to me and said, "Did you actually get the shirt from the tournament or from the stand in the parking lot?". Well I know a good insult when I hear one so I told him "I have been to the tournament a few times and I have a brother with yearly tickets. Also I lived in Augusta for almost 30 yrs and got to play the National once. How many times have you played there?".
I am not sure politics has anything to with this but it is a point that there are jerks of every political persuasion.

Jake, I used to live in

Jake, I used to live in Redding. It's great up there, I want to go back and see it again. Have a great trip, and be safe.

Have you gone to Mt. Lassen, up towards the top? It's incredible, but if you get out and walk around, go very slowly- the air is so thin, it makes you huff and puff.

And if you go to the coast, to Eureka, dress warm- it's always freezing cold there. 70 degrees is a heat wave there.

Enjoy!

To remind everyone that Sanders was the Chief of the APD, let's use his title when talking about him. You know....Chief Freddie Sanders.

Goodluck, RK, getting back to work.

River

We will have to fight this paper (some ) with their NEGATIVE NEWS on turnout in the next election....I have NEVER seen such garbage B4....blaming Strength for everything under the sun.....geeez...

So hard for them to admit that the common everyday posters on here are making more sense & the people realize it!!

I have to say thank you to Sheriff Strength......he remains a gentleman through all of this....amazing man.

I saw Monday Night Mayhem on

I saw Monday Night Mayhem on here when a few current RCSO officers, Peebles supporters, using their names and taking their cue from the media posted such derogatory comments about Strength and his wife that I wondered how they kept their jobs. Strength simply said things would quiet down after the election and hard feelings would be put aside. What a generous person.

Negative news posters--geez

Some on here thought SP had it in the bag---they were wrong

Some on here think a white man can't win in Richmond county----wrong thinking again...

Many people want to make a difference in Richmond county----it is not about money-prestige--limelight--they already have that......but I won't waste my time on the naysayers.......
Life really is short & thank you to the men/women who really care about Richmond county...

I'm telling y'all the best

I'm telling y'all the best police chief Charleston ever had was a black man. He demanded the black folks toe the line and they were proud of him. He went into the projects daily on roller skates, believe that or not. They listened to him. Crime stats dropped significantly when he was there. If Roundtree should win, I'm sure he will swear in any officers who want to work there although I imagine some will be voluntarily hitting the road because of all the hard feelings.

Dear Teacher

I imagine there is high speed copier somewhere in your school that is much less expensive to print on than the costly printer. Of course, you may have walk a little to get to it.

Math

Ranter # 6 does not need textbooks nor a fancy laser printer to teach math. All she needs is a chalkboard and some chalk; and all the students need is some lined paper (furnished by parents, not taxpayers) and a number 2 pencil (with a good eraser).

I noticed that the teacher

I noticed that the teacher made sure they printed out everything pertaining to that individual before thinking of printing out the lessons that the children would need to work on. I'm not a teacher, but I imagine at least some of the items listed did not even need to be printed out. We live in a time where computer monitors will allow you to read your documentation so that not everything you receive will have to be printed out.

"(M)onitors will allow you to read

your documentation so that not everything you receive will have to be printed out."

It would be nice if that were true; unfortunately, it isn't. Most of what he or she listed as requiring printing were requirements from above, some imposed by Federal reporting laws, some simply required to justify some admin weenie's existence, but all have to have hard copies, usually in multiple sets. It is fitting the lessons themselves are listed as last; this is precisely where the education bureaucracy has placed actual teaching. I've walked in those moccasins, so I know.

Riverman; Greenberg isn't

Riverman; Greenberg isn't successful because he is black, he is successful because he is a darned good cop and administrator. I'm sure his ethnicity helps with acceptance in the black community, but he would be equally good in South Dakota.

Not the point

"I'm telling y'all the best police chief Charleston ever had was a black man."

Skin colour has nothing to do with this, RM. Roundtree is not the sort of man you described they elected in Charleston. Roundtree's act, reported over the years is one of arrogance, deceit, and slovenly work ethic; it's not a result of skin colour. He is our local equivalent to the Obamessiah, a liar and a fraud commited to getting into office, not so much to actually doing the job. Unlike the Apologist-in-Chief, his past is well documented and known, but, like The One, he will get elected on the basis of race.

My guess

"... (G)ot a thumbs down for trying to save the school some money."

Though I don't do the thumbs thing, I'd say no, I imagine for the snarky comment at the end, "Of course, you may have walk a little to get to it," implying teachers were too lazy to walk to do their jobs.

I don't have a horse in this race...

"Let's hope Roundtree can see the big picture. If not, RC is in big trouble."

But if 'Tree wins in the general election, I sincerely hope he keeps it low key and doesn't let the position and power go to his head.

I keep getting this vision of an entourage, limousine, etc. I hope that is just media stereotyping leaking into my brain.

So HWthe 3rd, you are saying that schools do not have high speed copiers available for teachers to use for large print jobs?
