The man killed in a wreck on Gordon Highway on Sunday has been identified as 22-year-old Shem Rider, of Grovetown, authorities said.
Shortly after 2 p.m., Samantha Presley, 20, of Grovetown, was driving her Subaru eastbound on Gordon Highway, when she tried to make a left turn onto Newmantown Road and collided with a 2005 Jeep Liberty, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay.
Rider, Presley’s passenger, was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he died from injuries sustained in the crash. Presley was taken to MCG by ambulance and was listed in critical condition, Gay said.
Richmond County deputy coroner Kenneth Boose said Rider’s body will undergo an autopsy in Augusta on Monday.
The driver of the Jeep, Eugene Shelley, 48, was taken to MCG for observation.
