Flags lowered to half-staff across Georgia to honor Wisconsin shooting victims

  • Follow Metro

The United States and Georgia state flags have been lowered to half-staff in honor of those affected by Sunday’s shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis.

Gov. Nathan Deal signed an executive order on Monday ordering the flags to be flown at half-staff through sunset Friday on all state buildings and grounds.

“The people of Georgia share the grief of the families and friends of those who were injured or killed, and we pray for their comfort and healing in the days to come,” the order states.

While I do sympathize with

While I do sympathize with the families I think the lowering the flag to half staff is going a little too far. The flag being lowered has traditionally been for the death of service men or women or the death of dignitaries. Now it seems they are lowered for anybody. In my opinion this cheapens the act for those who truly deserve it.

Sad Situation in Wisconson

I was noticing the flags on businesses and 2 of the Public Safety stations at half-staff yesterday in Aiken and was wondering why. This must be it. That was a terrible tragedy at the Sikh Temple in Wisconson, but I do not know if it warrants the flags being lowered. Did they lower the flags all over after the terrorist attack at Ft Hood?

Totally agree about overuse of flying at half staff. BUT, that is what we have nowadays is public officials afraid to stand up and be an American.
