Driver injured after running into ditch to avoid collision

This vehicle ended up overturned in a ditch outside Harlem when the driver had to swerve to avoid a car that crossed the center line.

A man was airlifted to Medical College of Georgia Hospital on Tuesday after swerving his vehicle into a ditch to avoid an oncoming car outside Harlem.

The wreck occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Gordon Highway at White Road, just west of the city limits, when a westbound white sports car crossed the center line and caused a blue Ford Explorer to swerve to avoid a collision.

The Explorer ran into the ditch and overturned. Its driver, Johnny Eugene Green of Dearing, was extricated by Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue personnel.

A passenger, Clifton Pressley, was taken to a hospital by ambulance with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. Two others in the Explorer, including a 2-year-old girl, were treated at the scene.

Authorities are looking for the driver of the white car for possible charges of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
