Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

GOD DOESN’T LOOK at the outside of men; he looks at the inside of a man. That being said, it does not really matter what one wears to church as long as it is decent. Jesus wore sandals and a robe. Are you going to condemn him also?

RAVES TO THE OWNER and operator of the Glenwood Community Pool. It is beautiful, well-maintained, affordable and open to all.

THIS IS A RAVE FOR the customer who called to cancel my Internet service repair visit but still invited me over for some coffee and coffee cake. What a nice guy! I wish all customers were that friendly.

THE RICHMOND COUNTY Board of Education is the worst of all good old boy systems. People get promotions and raises based entirely on who their friends are or what sorority they belonged to. Institutionalized incompetence. Shameful.

CAN YOU IMAGINE A world with no lawyers? No frivolous lawsuits making everything go up, no iceberg legal assistant, no lawyers in D.C. and none of them becoming judges and screwing up the Supreme Court.

THERE ARE TOO MANY people in Augusta who water after 10 a.m. and before 4 p.m. because they do not know any better. The water bill provides a Web address to find the watering hours and car-washing days.

RANTS TO THE PERSON who commented on what a person was wearing to church. Shouldn’t we be more concerned about their souls instead of shorts and flip-flops?

ALL THAT RUBBER you see on the side of the road are not trucks having flat tires. It is recapped tires off of these semis.

RAVE TO DOCTORS Hospital 5West. Ms. Griffin is caring and professional and goes the extra mile for her patients.

A BIG RAVE FOR the citizens of Richmond County who graciously donated food at Kroger on July 21. The Salvation Army and Richmond County deeply appreciate your generosity. Raves to the citizens of Columbia County, too.

WE DO NEED GRASS police, otherwise known as code enforcement officers, because people who take care of their property are sick and tired of seeing their property values go down because people are not taking care of their property. Cut your grass at least in the front yard.

Doesn't It Make You Chuckle...

...in wonder and astonishment?

Why do these fat cats even make the effort to create the charade that is the feigned attempt to get "the peoples input" on naming the new University?

They must think we are really, really, really stupid.

Sad part is......

They're right.

Why wait until the year 2020?

Why wait until the year 2020? Start riding down Washington rd in West Augusta(Augusta National to Pleasant Home) going towards Martinez(Pleasant Home rd to Club Car) and then stop in the Evans area(Club Car-going past Greenbrier).. People can see the growth in Evans and even Grovetown(around the Gateway) is affecting the older parts of CC. The new commercial area of Martinez has moved on towards Furys Ferry... The older part of West Augusta(Wrightsboro rd: Walmart, Windsor Jewelers, 14k sq. ft. office/retail at 3827, new commercial buildings near Sue Reynolds elementary) is still growing... The Regal Village theater was purchased in the Augusta West Plaza, and Let's Jump opened recently.. Remember there's plenty of ongoing/future construction for the newer areas of West Augusta(Augusta Exchange, Washington rd, Village at Riverwatch)..

I don't understand how someone could try and spin the commercial developments..

Good News

Trouble and I dropped in on Sarge today and got some really good news from him. He was waiting for Precious to come pick him up. He is going home today and hopes to rejoin us very soon.

Nobody is spinning anything.

Nobody is spinning anything. There may be new businesses opening in the area but they don't hire enough to offset the recent layoffs. Remember, figures don't lie but liars can figure. See the Emperors administration.

I think somebody forgot the

The same few people love to bring up anything negative they think relates to Richmond County.. I think somebody forgot the total is for the metro Augusta area(Richmond, Aiken, Columbia, Burke, Mcduffie, Edgefield), and not solely Richmond County.. Thousands of jobs were created at SRS through the stimulus fund, and now they're gone. The recession is finally catching up with the metro area, but were still doing okay.. The metro area ranked fourth in the nation(private new jobs) in 2010, and the current unemployment rate is comparable to other metros in Georgia.. With the NSA, Starbucks, Bridgestone, Rockwood, Plant Vogtle, and Mox all under construction the metro area will be fine over the next decade..

Proof of what? I haven't

Proof of what? I haven't denied anything reported in the article... I seriously hope you don't think the BLS is based on individual counties..

The name of the MSA aka metro area is Augusta-Richmond County GA-SC.. If Augusta/RC or Richmond County(including the city limits of Hephzibah and Blythe) actually lost the amount by itself... Then the entire metro area would start losing population similar to Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburg, etc in the previous decade.

Why is Augusts so different? The same people tell us how downtown is dangerous, but the private construction continues to grow faster.. Private construction usually stays away from areas with higher crime rates..

Now were supposed to believe the BLS ranks every other city in the US by using the MSA/metro area, but for Augusta they're only going to use Richmond County... I mean the first couple of words in the article read "two Georgia metro areas''..

Countyman, you do know that

Countyman, you do know that Mox is probably all right for the long run, but they are about to take a massive hit in layoffs. Or perhaps you didn't know that.
