Rants & Raves

RAVE TO RICK MCKEE for the cartoon on July 14 illustrating Secret Agent Barack Obama.

TO THE PERSON who wanted to publish the names of all the people who give money against the president: I would like to see all the names of people on welfare and Section 8 published. I would like to put some shame into all of those people who are stealing money from all us hard-working people.

RANT TO THE deteriorating morals and neatness I witness on television and everywhere I go. Disgraceful females have allowed fashion and style to dominate their lifestyles rather than neatness. Their modernistic hairstyles look worse than the head of a mop and usually cover one or both eyes and are a safety hazard, especially while driving.

ON JULY 16 at 4:50 p.m., my wife’s leg gave out at the second-floor elevator at University Hospital. I was really surprised at the number of people who showed up and assisted us. Anybody who has anything negative to say about University Hospital, don’t say it in front of me.

I WOULD LIKE to know if you think it is right to call yourself a preacher if you lie, call your wife bad names and if you do drugs.

THE CHRONICLE IS so sexist. You will frequently give scores for the men’s games but not for the women’s game. Today, July 17, the men’s Olympic team played after the women’s team, but the men’s score was in the paper and the women’s was not. Typical.

I JUST CALLED Homeland Security to report illegal workers building houses in Columbia County. They told me that they need their name, address and age before they can investigate. I told them I can’t give them that information because they don’t speak English.

RAVES TO THE Augusta-Richmond Library for hosting Carmen Deedy! It was exciting to spend an hour with the renowned storyteller and children’s author.

THE JULY 12 STORY on Easter Seals brought back some good memories. In a rough time in my life, when I had trouble getting out, someone suggested Easter Seals’ workshop, where I was given tasks for minimum pay. But in being with others and getting out, I was able to improve. Now I try not to forget Easter Seals in my donations. They didn’t forget me.

Just wondering how you figured out they were "illegal". Did you interview them and they told you? No, you couldn't have because you said they don't speak English. Did you speak to their employer and ask for their credentials? I doubt it. Maybe it was because they were speaking Spanish and possibly listening to Mexican music. Yeah, that must be it.

Women's sports often get second billing unless it is gymnastics, figure skating and, on occasion, golf. It does not mean that the women are second class athletes, quite the opposite. This world is still pretty much male dominated so males tend to watch men in action. Personally, I like to watch women's sports that interest me like gymnastics, golf, beach volleyball and, of course, mud wrestling. I know, I am part of the problem.

I agree with the poster who

I agree with the poster who said the city can offer tax incentives to businesses... The only problem is the business must first want to expand in South Augusta.... Costco would never build in South Augusta at the moment due to the demographics... Focus on the Target shopping center with the usual chain restaurants and stores along I-52O....

A few updates to share with the public.... I've heard Bebe is coming to the VAR, but this is nothing more than an rumor at this point..

1. The TEE Center now has 13 events under contract
http://buzzon.biz/2012/07/tee-center-now-up-to-13-booked-events/
2. Whiskey Bar Kitchen will open soon along Artist Row in the old Wicked Wasabi space at 1048 Broad street
3. Dyess Park in the Laney Walker area will undergo improvements, and the 9th street/James Brown Boulevard streetscape construction is right around the corner
http://appweb.augustaga.gov/planning_zoning/plazid_display.asp?zID=4352
4. Applebee's is coming to the Gateway in Grovetown
5. Oliviana's Pizzeria & Grill will open in the former Polka Dot Pig in the Surrey Center located at 399 Highland Ave
6. Roadrunner Cafe will soon open it's second location in the area.... The business is replacing the old Famous Daves on Washington rd...
http://www.roadrunnercafe.com/
7. The Sheraton located in West Augusta was named the 'Sheraton of the year for 2012'....
http://www.pr.com/press-release/427245
8. The Rosemary Hall in North Augusta was given AAA's 4 diamond status among other recognitions...
http://buzzon.biz/2012/06/rosemary-hall-receives-recognition/
9. Gypsey Pearl will open in the Midtown area on Kings Way(off Central Avenue).. Kings Way, Monte Sano, and the Central Avenue part of Summerville/Midtown can resemble Virginia Highlands in Atlanta over the new few years.. All they have to do is expand First Thursday, develop the fire station property on Central Avenue, and create 1 to 2 additional events twice per month(Saturday is a nice day to start things off)... Then focus on bringing new amenities along Central Avenue east of Hickman rd and Wrightsboro rd east of Highland Avenue....
http://buzzon.biz/2012/07/new-business-opening-in-midtown-augusta/
10. Not completely sure but the rumor is a new restaurant(behind Buffalo Wild Wings).....

TEE opening has been delayed

TEE opening has been delayed almost a year. They now have 13 events for 2013 which would be less than 25% occupancy rate which is pathetic. The scheduled events are certainly not the national events we were led to believe would be coming here. All these little get togethers do is take from existing venues. White elephant, but nice for the Marriott since we pay the bills.

The TEE attempts to appear

The TEE attempts to appear successful are amusing. One of the "events" scheduled I happen to know a little about. HFW Distribution is a small business in West Augusta that's also called Home Folks. That's sure going to bring lots of people into town. I wonder if they will start announcing family reunions and weddings they are trying to book?

Homeland Security Website

I went to their website and see where they had arrested in Chicago egregious immigration law violators. I wonder how they define egregious? I have the feeling that doesn't mean if you are illegal in this country it's egregious, that's just the norm.

Test Today

I have to take a biannual test today. I wonder how old you have to be before you can stop taking tests? I mean I've been doing my job for 30 years. I wouldn't be surprised if you have to take a test before you can get in the funeral home.

Ad on the right

I see an ad on the right for East Georgia State College. There must be a zillion colleges with Georgia in the name. I certainly hope the regents don't stick one on ASU-MCG. That would be about as unique as white lines on the highway driving from Atlanta to Augusta.

2nd rant

I am not sure what world you are living in, but the people who live in section 8 housing and are on welfare are for the most part proud of being able to sit on their rear ends and take our money. why do you think they are raising their children to do the same?

SeenIt asked, "How old are ya when they stop doing a colonoscopy??"

That's an interesting question. At what age can people stop worrying about their cholesterol? Stop having all kinds of tests done? I wonder what they do in Britain when you hit 90 or something? Take you out to the desert?

Lists

Since we want lists, I want to see a list of farmers getting subsidies, yet are voting against "government handouts." I want a list of people who are for a "fair tax" yet are not paying anything close to their income tax bracket. I want a list of business who outsource their jobs to other countries and that are against illegal immigration.

Lastly, I want a list of people who are against illegal immigration, whose ancestors were ACTUALLY true blooded native Americans, so others can hear how immigration truly destroyed their lives......

Guns again

If guns are so bad, why am I watching the womens final in skeet? I mean the Olympics are all about piece and sportsmanship right? To quote, or maybe miss quote a little the late Charlton Heston... There's no such thing as a good gun. There's no such thing as a bad gun. A gun in the hands of a bad man is a very dangerous thing. A gun in the hands of a good person is no danger to anyone except the bad guys
