Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

NO NEW TAXES. TSPLOST is nothing more than a new tax. Republicans say no new taxes; they should be against it. Democrats say no new taxes; they should be against it. Vote no for TSPLOST.

RAVE FOR THE added requirements to renew driver’s licenses. Now that everyone must renew in person, how about adding a safety feature. We need a short film to train drivers how to enter and exit a freeway. Most drivers don’t know how and create a hazard.

HAD DINNER at a very popular restaurant on Belair Road. A group of adults and children were sitting at a table across from us and it was disgusting the mess they left on the table and under the table when leaving. Seems the adults could have had some decency and not left such a horrible sight.

WHY HAS THE lock and dam allowed to become a place for teen thugs to hang out? Where are the parents that allow them to do this and where is the law enforcement? It used to be a nice place to take the family for a picnic or a little fishing.

IGNORANCE SURELY MUST be bliss. Otherwise why would so many Republicans choose to show their ignorance in the Rants & Raves and letters columns?

TWO LITTLE LADIES want to send a big thank-you to the young gentleman who paid for our dinner at Applebee’s on Peach Orchard Road on Friday the 13th. You will never know how much it was appreciated. Thanks again and God bless.

RANTS TO THE Chronicle. I see that I am forced to use the All-Access platform. This is another step towards America becoming a socialist state.

WE HAVE A country that is drowning in debt, disastrous economy, wasteful government spending, billions of taxpayer dollars down the drain, illegals entering the country, crisis in foreign relations and leadership that is devastating. With all of these major problems going on, you would think the president would be hard at work trying to come up with some kind of a solution to restoring this country. Instead, the president is focused on Mitt Romney and Bain Capital, offshore accounts, outsourcing jobs. In other words, Obama will do whatever it takes to steer people away from his failed record and the dismal condition of this once great country. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

Last rant

Yeah, and most of the people were critical of Bush when he left office or Obama would not have been elected. Being President seems to garner a lot of negative criticism, most of it rightly deserved.

3rd rant

"Etiquette" seems to be a word that not only sounds foreign but in practice is foreign to more and more people is this so-called modern society. Today my daughter and her friend were verbally assaulted while working at the San Francisco Zoo because they asked the parents of a small child to not put their kid on the railing of the sea lion exhibit.
People are getting to be such selfish ash holders that they think every thing revolves around them instead of the society at large. God help us.

We have such wonderful

We have such wonderful displays of LOVE on here with two ladies thanking someone for buying them dinner. I don't have much money, but I do this myself from time to time. Such things as being in the line of a convenience store and buy the soda of the person behind you. Maybe holding the door for the person walking in behind you. Little acts like this show compassion and a great heart.

Then we have the opposite side with with RANTOR calling names to people they disagree with "IGNORANCE SURELY MUST be bliss". Was this absolutely neccessary? You make such a statement and don't give any example of what they said to quality you calling them names. People need to STOP!! That person that holds the door for you might be a republican.

Did you hear the latest?

Did you hear the latest? Romney's campaign is now saying he " retired retroactively" from Bain Capital before Bain really hit its stride outsourcing American jobs. Tricky. He also earned a $ 100,000 annual salary while supposedly not involved in Bain " in anyway." Really trick. And from just one year of past tax returns, we know Romney has tucked away potentially millions in a Swiss bank account and notorious tax havens like the Cayman Islands and Bermuda. It all adds up to Tricky Mitt. Even Tricky Mitt's Republican allies are publicly telling him he has to release more of his tax return. The more people know about Mitt Ronmey's economic plans - tax breaks for millionaires, layoffs and cutbacks for the most of us - the less support he gets.

Ignorance Rant

I think BOTH Democrats and Republicans are being ignorant with name calling instead of effective policy and law making. Come together, discuss and debate ideas and come to some solutions! That's what has made our country great, the freedom to discuss and debate ideas without posturing for power or political position! I don't think either party wants the nation to decline in ANY way. As soon as some olive branches come out, this country can move forward.

The majority of the Richmond County master plan focuses on South Augusta.... The majority of commissioners happen to live in South Augusta...

Well they better start voting like they live in S Augusta or they could kiss something goodbye.....

Seems John Kerry was a multimillionaire and nobody complained about that. So, it's good to be a one percenter if you are a Democrat but bad if you are a Republican. Somebody help me out here, I am getting confused again.

constituent........I am not

constituent........I am not at all concerned about what Mitt Romney did with his money. I am more concerned about what Barack Obama and the Democrats are doing with MY money.

To the "ignorance is bliss" ranter.....you should know. Anyone who can see the results of Obama's economic policies and still plans to vote for him ought to know a lot about ignorance. My guess is that you don't know how many zeros are in $16 trillion. My guess is that you don't know that the government manipulated 8.2% unemployment rate is really 15% unemployment. My guess is that you still think Obamacare will cost us $900 billion instead of the revised $2.6 trillion and still growing. My guess is that you are disappointed that Solyndra, and all of the other green energy compainies that Obama gave our $trillion dollars to, were not open long enough for you to buy stock in the companies before the Democrats we loaned the money too closed the doors and absconded with our tax dollars. Four years of Obama and still going backwards. You may think I am ignorant but I am not blind nor am I deaf. You should try pulling your head out of.......errrr.....the sand before you call someone else ignorant.

And now it is reported ghat

And now it is reported ghat GM might be in trouble. Stock worth 18.70 needs to be $53.00.
Seems they are selling cars at a below prime rate, selling to those with credit ratings of less that 500. (Whatever that means.)
Could it be that Obama's largest success program is on shaky grounds.
Let us hope not. The taxpayers would be the losers.

"Bail Outs"

Does "B.O." stand for "Barack Obama," or "Bail Out?"

GM has announced plans to finance cars to anybody who walks in the door, not unlike the "mortgage crisis" which was caused by democrats who forced banks to loan money to folks who couldn't pay it back.

Any doubts that the government has already promised to "bail them out" of the bad loans they're now making?

It's One Way....

....to drive up sales.

It makes things look good, when in fact they're going straight to...um...heck.

It's the democrat way. Why do you think they're putting zillions of people on Social Security Disability? It's one way to make the Unemployment statistics appear better than they really are.

Pay somebody 99 weeks of Unemployment, then put them on Social Security Disability.

The commissioners of Richmond

The commissioners of Richmond County can't force private businesses to open in South Augusta... It's similar to the residents of Grovetown and Harlem complaing because Evans and Martinez have more... Blame the city for not adding new bike lanes/sidewalks, opening city owned buildings to spur development, landscaping projects, etc.. Getting mad at them for the lack of private construction doesn't make sense at all...

People may not remember, but shootings have taken place in downtown Aiken before... I already know South Carolina has strict annexations laws, but if you include the surrouding area of Aiken... Then you have to include the crimes committed in the surrouding area too.... So if you have seven-eight homicides in the 30k population then you must include the additional shootings, burglaries, homicides, robberies, etc to the total... I'm not trying to bash Aiken one bit, but only get tired of the same responses towards anything in Augusta... West Augusta will never have seven to eight homicides in one year, and the residential/daytime/nightime population is much larger than Aiken...

West Augusta has its share,

West Augusta has its share, but we have a neighborhood watch program that is tied into other watch programs. If something happens, The news is passed around.
Also, many have security service, and motion detectors.
Citizens must do their share if they want their homes to remain safe.
