SO A WISCONSIN GROUP is championing the separation of church and state evaluation of Augusta’s use of city resources to promote and plan monthly prayer breakfasts? It must be nice to have all of Wisconsin’s problems and complaints resolved so they have the money and time to branch out and advise other states and cities.

RAVES TO THE Board of Education workers and inmates who cleaned the campus at Richmond Academy in the brutal heat. A special rave to Helen Minchew for making this happen. ARC alumni are very appreciative.

RAVES TO AUGUSTA State University and WJBF for The Best of the Class 2012. And especially for Todd Gay of Channel 6 for doing such a wonderful job.

I LIKE OUR PRESIDENT. I want him to go back into office. Vice President jOE Biden should retire to spend time with his family. Hillary Clinton should be appointed by Obama as his vice president.

WHY IS EVERYONE so quick to put down Peach Orchard Road and south Augusta? Go to the Applebee’s on Washington Road and you can hear the same sort of vulgarities.

THE REASON WHY you have no respect for our president is that you are nothing but a racist. Period.

HARD TO IMAGINE why Republicans who call themselves conservatives are upset because the government is taxing people who won’t take responsibility for paying for their own health care.

WHY DO THEY ALLOW people to hold their dogs when they are driving in their vehicles? That is an obstruction. That is almost like holding a baby while you are driving. I don’t understand why that is not a law.

MAYBE THE PARENTS OF kids who break the curfew should be hit with a $100 fine for not keeping track of their kids. The city could raise some money so we can have more police.

RANT TO THE code enforcement officer who walked into the house and is now making excuses. If he had walked into my house, I would have shot him. He had no right to do that.

Eat more chickin!!

"But current company President Dan Cathy sparked a controversy when he confirmed in an interview with the Baptist Press earlier this month their belief that marriage should be allowed only between one man and one woman. (Cathy, also the CEO, is the son of the founder.)

"Well, guilty as charged," he said, when asked about the position. “We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

"THE REASON WHY you have no respect for our president is that you are nothing but a racist. Period."

Why would a newspaper with as much class as the Augusta Chronicle print nonsense as this? It doesn't even sound real.

I guess the AC needed more hits, huh.

The comment probably wasn't even real and shouldn't have been printed even if it was.

"The comment probably wasn't even real and shouldn't have been printed even if it was."

That's an interesting comment Riverman, and I'm kind of intrigued by it.

There's a big difference in asserting the AC has made an error in judgement and asserting they lack editorial integrity. The former is a matter of opinion, the latter a matter of fact.

Harley, My Point

I see Chris Matthews and Co on MSNBC say something like that all the time. I don't believe it when I hear it there and I don't believe it here. The Chronicle is a conservative paper and doesn't believe it either, so why print it? I'm not saying they made up the comment, but they didn't have to print such garbage. Again it reminds me of MSNBC with their ulterior motives and does nothing to promote race relations in these parts. I call um like I see um.

"I call um like I see um."

Indeed.

Then if you "call um like I see um" as you say, what changed about the way you saw their comments as first "The comment probably wasn't even real" then, when asked about it, to seeing it as " I'm not saying they made up the comment."

It sure sounds like you were indeed suggesting they "made it up."

Maybe the second time you were looking in the rear view mirror?

I'm honestly just looking for any evidence you might have that the AC lacks integrity as a newspaper. Personally, I can't say I've seen any.

Also, RM....

I believe Chris Matthews does indeed lack integrity, so I really don't think it's fair to compare him to the AC.

Could be that the AC really

Could be that the AC really didn't wish to print the Rant but since so many liberals have complained and bashed the AC for not being "fair and balanced", they had to print it. Sure has generated enough conversation from it.

Harley, my point again

It could very well be someone put it up wanting to promote racial strife. Thus the not even real point. Heck, I get my comments pulled for making fun of politicians even when I'm telling the truth. This one is far more inflammatory.

One other thing about it, RM...

You say "... but they didn't have to print such garbage."

I think their intent is to present reader comments that reflect controversial opinions that might spur "robust but respectful conversation."

If that's their goal, they seem to have made a brilliant decision when they printed this particular comment and, personally, I think it's one that should be discussed far and wide.

Again, I really suspect it's fake

But even if it isn't fake, it does nothing but promote discord just like MSNBC. The premise that whites who don't support Obama are racist is wrong. Why repeat it to cause trouble?

Tale of Two Cities

There are two municipalities which voted not to be absorbed by the consolidation. Hephzibah and Blythe both lay to the South and in District 8. I am not clear on what the taxation obligation to Aug/Rich Cty would be, but if favorable, I can see Hephzibah annexing to the East as far as the river and McBean the same to the Ft Gordon perimeter and existing Hephzibah city limits on the West. Again, research is needed to understand all of the revenue flow. Boy would that send a message!!!!

Fake....

That is, of course, an opinion you're free to embrace. It's the same as calling them "liars" and that's a charge I personally don't make lightly.

As for the merits of discussing the issue of claiming "racism" is why people disagree with President Obama's policies, I personally think it's one that should be widely discussed.

Your mileage apparently varies.

Life goes on.....

I don't know if a city can

I don't know if a city can annex part of an existing city, if ARC is truly considered a city and not some special city-county consolidation with different rules. But you are right, it would scare THEM.

Speak for yourself, my friend. I'm not willing to accept the ludicrous notion that policy disagreements necessarily prove racism.

(P.S. I know you aren't either and just said that with your tongue squarely planted in your cheek.)

It would be nice if Blythe

It would be nice if Blythe would annex to Hephzibah, go across Gordon Hwy, down Dyess Pky and incorporate West Augusta, too. Blythe, Ga would be cool.

Not the same, RM.

You've offered an opinion. You haven't attributed that statement to anyone other than yourself. You are the author. As a matter of fact, I share that opinion, though I would change the wording to "SOME blacks don't support Romney because he's white," not all.

And I'm not sure what you mean by "we're even." I simply asked you to explain your original comment and you seem to have taken offense.

SeenitB4 has, not surprisingly, joined you in this battle (though I'm certainly not fighting a battle at all) so between the two of you perhaps you can provide a concrete example of where the AC invented a comment they falsely attributed to a reader.

Or not....

New Cities

River, in addition to Sandy Springs, Johns Creek (my home) and Dunwoody all formed their own municipalities. With the GOP controlling the State legislature, now is the time.

Sandy Springs

I saw that you put something on here about that.....btw they are doing just fine after pulling away from Fulton...you know N Fulton wanted to become Milton county......haven't been able to make that happen yet......they even ask Taliferro county to join with another county.....no go yet.

JTF and SeenIt, I read about

JTF and SeenIt, I read about the Sandy Springs experience and know a Republican legislature makes it easier, but what about the local delegation? Wouldn't they have to approve such a measure? In ARC, they won't. We need to figure this out and get the ball rolling.
