Lots of vacation postcards. Lots of people traveling America. Let’s see where they went.

Well, Hartwell and Melvis Powell went to Georgia – “A great place!” they say. They sent two cards, including one from the famous Uncle Remus Museum in Eatonton.

Steve, Diane, Tyler and Kyle Cole send greetings from Maine, where they are visiting family and friends. They also sent a card from Vermont, where the temps are in the 40s.

Melissa, Matthew and Medeline from Grovetown send a funny “vintage” postcard from Saugatuck, Mich. They report that the water temperature is a chilly 59 degrees.

Ralph and Patsy Lee, of McCormick, S.C., are in the Amish country of Pennsylvania and also sent a card from West Virginia.

Judy, Summer, Darby and Stacy are having a great time in Los Angeles. They hit the Santa Monica Pier, Malibu, Hollywood and Disneyland and were on
The Tonight Show. They
also spent a night at the Beverly Hills Hotel and report that everyone in L.A. is friendly. “They love our accents.”

Russell and Sheryl Pate, of Wadley, Ga., send several cards. They say hello from Illinois, the Land of Lincoln. Another card shows the beauty of the Wisconsin Dells. Another depicts the Crazy Horse Memorial monument. A ring-necked pheasant postcard highlights the Dakotas, and another depicts the Devils Tower formation in Wyoming. Finally, they sent a card from Glacier National Park in Montana, where they say they thought they saw me. (It wasn’t, folks. But thanks for all your postcards.)

Jeremy Diebel, of Aiken, sends a funny postcard of the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile at the Henry Ford Museum near Detroit. He says he’s going to catch a Tigers game, too.

Kelly McGahee says “Bonjour!” She sent a card from France when she heard I needed one.

Pat and Wayne Fuller, of North Augusta, send two cards from the Bahamas, which they say “is almost as good as the Smokies.”

Dick McCoppin, of Augusta, sends us three postcards from the Midwest. “Heading toward St. Louis,” he writes. “Supposed to be 106 today!”

He also survived a thunderstorm on his way to Paducah, Ky., and is avoiding the state bird of Missouri, which appears to be a mosquito.

TODAY’S JOKE: Billy Barkley, of Bath, sends not only a postcard but also a joke:

A termite wakes up one morning with a terrible toothache. All the remedies he tries do not work.

He realizes, however, that he’s hungry and heads down the street, where he comes upon a saloon.

Making his way beneath the swinging doors to the center of the room, he announces: “Is the bartender here?”

(A lot of people don’t get this story, Billy admits.)
