Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

TO ALL THE people out there who don’t believe in global warming, you’d better wake up before it’s too late.

IF YOU READ the Bible, you would find that homosexuality is wrong in the eyes of God.

RANTS TO COLUMBIA County code enforcement employee. You knew better than to walk into that woman’s house. How many other times have you done this?

I AM AN ELDERLY lady, 88 years old, who is handicapped. When I go to the Kroger on Wrightsboro Road, I can never get a parking place because all of the young and middle-age folks take the parking places near the store. You need to put somebody up there to take care of this because the old people can’t shop.

ON JULY FOURTH we enjoyed a wonderful concert and dinner at St. Paul’s Church and the fireworks show afterwards. The traffic was handled better than any other year that I have been. But the officer stationed at the Sixth Street entrance to the lot spoiled the evening by yelling and screaming at everyone who was leaving the lot.

WHEN ARE WE AS a nation going to stand up against our government? What else will it take for us as a nation to stand up? Counties, cities and states, stand up against what is not right.

DON’T MAKE PENALTIES for crimes less severe, Nathan Deal. I won’t vote for the transportation special purpose local option sales tax, but I will be happy to vote for a jail local option sales tax to build larger, safer prisons.

HATS OFF TO THE little city of Harlem. Fifty large American flags bordering both sides of the main street fluttering in the wind on the Fourth of July in remembrance of those who sacrificed for us. God bless the little town and all of you.

RANTS TO SOME of the men who come to West Acres Baptist Church who wear shorts and flip-flops to church. We are to be an example to our children and respect God’s house and revere Him.

TRUE AMERICAN PEOPLE should spend their money in American businesses so their money will not be sent overseas.

Global Warming?

"Professor Dr. Jan Esper's group at the Institute of Geography at JGU used tree-ring density measurements from sub-fossil pine trees originating from Finnish Lapland to produce a reconstruction reaching back to 138 BC. In so doing, the researchers have been able for the first time to precisely demonstrate that the long-term trend over the past two millennia has been towards climatic cooling." (my emphasis)

True American people would be

True American people would be glad to spend their money here if:

1. The quality is good
2. The value is good
3. Products were easily identifiable as American made.

I won't buy shoddy stuff at any price, and I won't pay a big premium to keep my $$ local. A few %, yes; but substantial money, no.

I don't believe in global

I don't believe in global warming, I like to favor science and fact.

For example, look up a guy named Archimedes and apply his Principle to the polar ice melting. Almost all of that ice is floating ice. Floating ice has already displaced all of the water that it will ever displace. If it melts, the water level isn't going anywhere.

You can do a simple experiment at home. Partially fill a clear glass with ice, then fill it almost to the top with water so that the ice floats. Immediately mark the water level on the outside of the glass with a marker. Let the ice completely melt. Check the water level and compare it to the mark that you made.

You will never believe in global warming, and how they're terrorizing children with it, again.

I use to ask non-handicapped

I use to ask non-handicapped people to not use those spaces, but I was threatened with physical harm twice. Since I carry a weapon 24/7 now, that would possibly end tragically if I did it today.

... and I had one experience, televised by a news crew no less, where I confronted someone who had no handicap card or sticker, but turned out to be an elderly lady who probably could have used the spot anyway. I felt like a cad.

Since my wife died in '92, I haven't had to personally deal with people stealing the handicap spots, but I see folk use them all of the time who have no card or sticker. Same goes for the pregnant mothers spots. Funny how many pregnant guys and grandmothers there are out there...

Oh Lord...Shorts and

Oh Lord...

Shorts and flip-flops in church? If you're modestly dressed, it doesn't matter what you're wearing to church. I'm sure that the lost need not apply at West Acre Baptist Church, or they don't at least as long as the people there condemn what someone is wearing.

Heaven forbid! That child's wearing a Sponge Bob Square Pants shirt! And that fellow is wearing flip flops and Bermuda shorts! Never mind that it's 105 degrees outside...

If you dress modestly and within your means, you ARE setting an example to young people and children.

A church building isn't God's house, the PEOPLE are his temple. People show respect for God and revere him by turning to Him in faith, renouncing sin, and doing their best to live their lives in a manner that He would find pleasing.

A building is just a building. If people want to go to a building that's actually a temple, then may I suggest Hinduism. I'm sure that they will accommodate folks who want "the temple" experience.

Personally, I believe that people don't show respect for God and revere Him by denouncing others for not dressing according to some arbitrary dress code.

Christ was more concerned about what was in our "cup", than with what was on the outside of it.

I wanted to make sure, and

I wanted to make sure, and it's been confirmed Windsor Jewelers is opening at the Top Notch(car wash across from Augusta mall) property on Wrightsboro rd..
Blanchard & Calhoun Commercial | News | Top Notch Car Wash Sells

Expect to hear additional details concerning the Discovery Plaza(former Fort Discovery), Regal Village theatre in the Augusta West Plaza(purchased earlier this year), leasing of the old Famous Daves on Washington rd, the tenants going in the two 4k sq. ft. buildings infront of the Kroger at Washington/Alexander, the ground breaking for the Cookout at 1801 Walton Way near Harrisburg, tenants for the 13 acre shopping center on Gordon Hwy in Southwest Augusta near Grovetown, tenants for the 10k sq. ft. Shoppes at Dyess Park behind Zaxybs on Madeline/Jimmie Dyess, exact date for the Ruby Tuesday on Bobby Jones closing and turning into Marlin & Rays(seafood), and some other announcements in the future. The big three(Village at Riverwatch, Wheeler Town Park, 25 acre shopping center on Jimmie Dyess near Zaxbys) probably have to wait to next year(in terms of commercial development), but you never know really..

The Residence Inn by Marriott at 1110 Marks Church rd was finally approved..
Planning & Zoning - Project Search Details

The Augusta Exchange area continues to boom! The Home2 Suites by Hilton at 3606 Exchange Lane, Savannah River Banking Subdivision at 3634 Walton Way Ext next to the Hilton brand hotel, development behind Buffalo Wild Wings, renovation of the Wheeler Executive Center on Wheeler rd, Mcdonalds at 3646 Wheeler rd, office/medical buildings btw Doctors Hospital/I-20, 7k sq. ft. center at 3670 Wheeler rd(includes Dunkin Donuts), and Exchange Lane(new roadway). LLAMB said this last night

Yes River, SeenitB4, and Willow

I, too, have been so caught off guard by the radio talk show host's shrill rantings at the sheriff. Actually, I think it shows love, devotion, and respect for his wife that he is keeping quiet during the primary race.

The entire question hinges on second place. For the radio talk show host to pound away day after day on the radio, and then write that hit piece in this week's free weekly newspaper would lead a logical thinker to the conclusion that Silas is in second place and Peebles in third.

The run-off, not the current primary, is where the contest will be fought.

I 100% agree with that LLamb.....

Good Morning and Wake Up America

@1 Tell me what is going to happen to me if I don't believe in Global Warming?

@2 You don't have to read the Bible to know it is wrong, God gave you what is called Common Sense.

@4 I Agree, Handicap parking spaces needs to be enforced.

@6 The last half of Rant 1 is the key.

@8 Beautiful, I hope they were all made in the USA.

@9 Casting_Fool took care of that one.

@10 At this time period, that is almost impossible to do. Name one item that is "COMPLETELY"made in America except some American Flags?

Hmmm, when did stating what

Hmmm, when did stating what the Word of God says become judgemental. If I say God's Word says you shouldn't murder, or if I say God's Word says to love your neighbor, or if I say God's Word says being unfaithful to your spouse is a sin.........how is that judging others and who actually is doing the judging if you are only repeating what God's Word says?

ranter#9, Isn't God more

ranter#9, Isn't God more pleased with our reverence through our prayer, worship, and obedience than what we have on our backside and feet? We would do well to teach our children respect, love and honor of God than to teach them some kind of fashion statement.

Excellent comment Casting-Fool!

Spanking the behinds

Some will disagree about this BUT it is IMHO...

Do yall remember he kids on the bus taunting the older woman...hitting her...bullying her....the kids showed 0 respect... of course they have apologized since the incident......my thinking is...when we forget to teach our kids respect for their elders--yes mam no mam---respect for their teachers----respect for the police ----we are raising little thugs.....they grow up thinking anything goes---no punishment for their actions...
The reason our parents spanked our bottoms ......

We need to get back to raising kids like our parents & grandparents did.....how many of our generaton shot up a movie house....put a bomb anywhere..... cussed a teacher.....slapped an adult.....all of that happens in our world today......

Global warming.

"TO ALL THE people out there who don’t believe in global warming, you’d better wake up before it’s too late."

Yes, I believe in global warming. I just don't believe it is man-made. It's happened many times before. It, and global cooling, have been happening for millions of years. It happened before man, before industry, before freon, and before there were greenie weenies to run around screaming "the sky is falling". The people who are telling us we are all going to die from warming are the same ones who, in the 70s, were telling us we were all going to die from the imminent ice age. Anyone interested in some unused parkas and snowshoes that have been in storage for 50 years? They will probably be "must have" items again about 2060.

"but I will be happy to vote

"but I will be happy to vote for a jail local option sales tax to build larger, safer prisons"

Amen for the P(prison)SPLOST. I figure that could be done with a 2 or 3 year SPLOST. Bigger, high tech prisons that can be manned with fewer guards. Could be a money saver in the long run with the added benefit of taking double or triple the number of punk thugs off of the street for LONGER periods of time. Now THAT I will vote for. But please vote NO on TSPLOST. If you approve TSPLOST you are merely approving them spending all of the GAS TAX we pay in the metro Atlanta area while we are double taxed to pay for our own pothole repairs. NO on TSPLOST !!!

Yankees need to know the difference in north/south

The difference between the North and the South - clearly explained...at last

The North has Bloomingdale's , the South has Dollar General.

The North has coffee houses, the South has Waffle Houses and Cracker Barrels.

The North has dating services, the South has family reunions.

The North has switchblade knives, the South has .45's.

The North has double last names, the South has double first names.

The North has Indy car races, the South has stock car races.

North has Cream of Wheat, the South has grits.

The North has green salads, the South has collard greens.

The North has lobsters, the South has crawfish.

The North has the rust belt, the South has the Bible Belt.

* IMPORTANT INFO FOR NORTHERNERS MOVING SOUTH:

If you run your car into a ditch, don't panic. Four men in a four-wheel drive pickup truck with a tow chain will be along shortly. Don't try to help them, just stay out of their way. This is what they live for.

Don't be surprised to find movie rentals and bait in the same store. Do NOT buy food at this store.

Remember, 'Y'all' is singular, 'all y'all' is plural, and 'all y'all's' is plural possessive

Get used to hearing 'You ain't from round here, are ya?'

Save all manner of bacon grease. You will be instructed later on how to use it.

Don't be worried at not understanding what people are saying. They can't understand you either.

The first Southern statement to creep into a transplanted Northerner's vocabulary is the adjective 'big'ol,' truck or 'big'ol' boy. Most Northerners begin their Southern-influenced dialect this way. All of them are in denial about it.

The proper pronunciation you learned in school is no longer proper.

Be advised that 'He needed killin.' is a valid defense here.

If you hear a Southerner exclaim, 'Hey, y'all watch this,' you should stay out of the way.

These are likely to be the last words he'll ever say.

If there is the prediction of the slightest chance of even the smallest accumulation of snow, your presence is required at the local grocery store. It doesn't matter whether you need anything or not. You just have to go there.

Do not be surprised to find that 10-year olds own their own shotguns, they are proficient marksmen, and their mammas taught them how to aim.

In the South, we have found that the best way to grow a lush green lawn is to pour gravel on it and call it a driveway.

AND REMEMBER: If you do settle in the South and bear children, don't think we will accept them as Southerners. After all, if the cat had kittens in the oven, we ain't gonna call 'em biscuits.

Thanks happy....

Gotta Go For Awhile

Leave you with today lesson.

Today's Lesson:

The SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)/Food Stamp Program,
administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing
the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S.Department of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed The Animals." They say that this is because the animals may grow dependent on handouts and not learn to take care
of themselves. "DUH"!

Thus concludes today’s lesson.

LL, you said, "Actually, I

LL, you said, "Actually, I think it shows love, devotion, and respect for his wife that he is keeping quiet during the primary race."

I can't disagree with that statement. However, would also add that it also shows good political strategy. It's not time for him to back anyone, yet.

And when that time comes, all would show themselves far more wiser to realize that Ronnie Strength is his own person, free to make whatever endorsement he so chooses to make or not make. All would do well to prepare themselves to respect that, most of all his family and friends. No one appreciates being used or controlled by others.

Loyalty?

Maybe the question should be turned around and asked of Austin "Why would Scott Peebles allow his friend and very apparent supporter, Austin Rhodes, to publicly BASH the Sheriff with rumor and innuendo about who wears the pants in his family, since Peebles declares that Ronnie Strength is like a father to him?" Why would Peebles let this continue to try and make his mentor look like less than a man and not come out to defend his Sheriff?

Did anyone ever stop to think that this election so far maybe has shown the Sheriff the true character of all of the candidates and possibly the Sheriff may have changed his mind on who he thinks should be his successor?

Stop putting words in the Sheriffs mouth and wait until HE speaks. You may not know everything!
