Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

AS A LOYAL University of Georgia fan, I am so thankful we have a moral, Christian man like Mark Richt to lead our football team. The undisciplined, immature Isaiah Crowell’s true colors finally came out. No matter his God-given talents, he will never wear the red and black again.

I THINK THOSE who whine the loudest and longest about rich people not paying their fair share of taxes come from the same bunch who collect welfare, food stamps, free phones, free Internet, free housing and free health care.

A RAVE TO THE CERN scientists as they appear to drop the Higgs boson on our heads. Good. As science progresses, religion regresses. It’s only a matter of time before science tells us why there is something (time, space, matter, etc.) as opposed to nothing. Charles Darwin amazed us with his Origin of the Species in 1859. Albert Einstein amazed us from 1907-1915 with his theory of relativity. Watson and Crick amazed us with DNA in 1953. Those are examples of something that science gives us that religion can’t and never will – knowledge!

IT WAS NICE SEEING John Barrow on Fort Gordon honoring our troops and celebrating the Fourth of July with them. It was great to shake the man’s hand and wish him luck.

THE NEW SCRAP METAL laws will fill the landfills with metal, prevent some small scrappers from making a living and force some larger metal dealers to lay off people. If a stove is found on the side of the road, how in the world do you get a receipt?

ANYONE CAUGHT burglarizing homes in Colorado should be shot on sight.

ANYONE FEEDING POOR little alligators should be made to move from the neighborhood for putting their neighbors in danger. They should also be fined a good bit for the stupid activity.

CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IS the most hideous thing in the world. It harms the most innocent. Why not legalize drugs and go after the really bad people?

PAINE COLLEGE WON’T even pay enough for a good accountant to run the place. They think they can do it themselves. How wrong they are.

WHAT IS GOV. Nathan Deal thinking? Signing a law that reduces punishment for crimes. I voted for this man. Sheesh.

Religion

Not sure what religion and football have in common. I doubt a diety would have any interest unless they had a side bet.

Science and religion are two different things. One involves theory, experiments, and conclusions. The other involves faith.

Child pornography is indeed hideous and the ones involved should be fed to the poor little aligators.

#1. You are joking, right?

#1. You are joking, right? What does Christian have to do with it?

#2. I disagree; it is also those who are envious of the successful, period. Many people who chose dead end liberal arts careers just can't understand why others make so much more money than they do. Pure class envy is the motivation.

Last rant. Obviously you made a mistake. We had an opportunity to put a good person in office but the homophobes in South Ga put Deal over the top.

Next to last. You are right. With a competent person in place, it would break up the party.

Whining

To the apparently wealthy man in his assumption that those who complain about the rich are on welfare : I'm a middle class military professional and I still think the rich don't pay their fair share. I also think many in this country don't pay their fair share due to evasion or not being honest. Now what?

Maybe taxes for the rich should be less, or maybe the loopholes that allow the rich to hide funds for personal gain instead of contributing to are the problem.

Maybe if you gave to charities instead of complaining about your taxes it would help.......

Welfare

Maybe the welfare and social programs out there should be geared toward encouraging progress instead of delaying progress. If basic educational and career opportunities were more available to all, welfare would not be seen as a viable option for provision.

It's not that simple of a solution for welfare but what can be done politicians, educators, parents, businessmen?

Taxes

National Sales Tax is the way to go. Simply get rid of the Infernal Revenue Service and charge in the neighborhood of 17% on all sales. That way Mr Football player, whom nobody seems to complain about anyway, pays the taxes on his Bently. While I pay taxes on a used Ford 150. Not to mention Miss Lady of the evening will even pay something when she goes to the local drug store to purchase the "tools" of her trade. Mr Unlicensed Pharmacist pays for the 22 inchers on his ride.

No more deducting the nice stuff as a business expense. What could be more fair?

G'mornin' the alphabet bunch.

Neither one pay their "Fair Share", so this is a push statement. One doesn't because they don't have much to pay with and they wants to keep it all so they don't feel the need to pay it.

Ranter 3, what good is

Ranter 3, what good is knowledge without the wisdom to apply it? Science is awesome, but who do you think gave us the gift to explore it? Who do you think created the pattern of all life?

I would far rather have a little of God's wisdom than all of man's knowledge.

Assuming

Some think I'm assuming the shooter wanted fame (in Colo) yes I am...
but please tell me why would anyone go in a crowded place anywhere & start shooting??
Why not just stay at home & shoot ??? Does the lure of the stage & bright lights bring out the monster....I think it does...
We have spent a lifetime of trying to figure out what makes a person tick & commit an act such as this...think Columbine--think Arizona shootings....
If your family had been in that theatre this thug could have wiped out every one of them....
Easy--peasy isn't working folks.....if the shooter on Broad St. had aimed higher he could have killed 6 people......I for one I'm sick of the attention they get on tv-news & etc...their history & why they kill innocents...WHO CARES.....

RoadKill National Sales Tax

RoadKill

National Sales Tax is good option, on the surface, it may even be better. IT is clever individuals that manipulate the system and I would anticipate them doing the same with a new one. I'm not sure how, maybe a barter system that doesn't use cash, idk. But rest assured, they would try.

I want to address a couple of

I want to address a couple of people who questioned what football and Christianity have to do with each other, involving UGA coach Mark Richt. I don't see what's so hard to understand about this. The way I see it, the only way football and Christianity have to do with each other is the WAY the football is played, and that's trying to play by the rules, not bringing excess attention to yourself, and obeying the refs and your coaches. BUT, these comments really were about Mark Richt being a Christian and being a head coach. Look around the country and you'll see coach after coach who has been involved in scandels and indiscretions...you've never seen anything along those lines with Coach Richt. No, he's far from perfect, but any University would love to have him as far as having a great moral leader of their young men....in other words, they don't have to "worry" about Richt. Now, as far as who YOU would want as far as being a head coach and leader for YOUR son, would you rather have a man who portrays himself one way in front of the cameras, parents, and administrators and yet he acts a totally different way behind the scenes? Again, in other words, wouldn't you rather your son be with a man who "walks the walk and talks the talk"? Some very sad examples: A coach who preaches integrity, yet covers up for a pedophile asst. coach.....a coach who professes to be honorable despite past incidents, yet he has an affair with a much younger woman who he arranged to get a job in the athletic department...and a national championship winning coach who people have all but proclaimed the new "Bear", yet he ignored and literally stepped over one of his players who was having a seizure right in front of him. THAT is why Georgia people appreciate Mark Richt. Again, he is NOT perfect, but I honestly feel that he would never do any of the things these other 3 high-profile coaches did. But, to be fair, most people did put Joe Paterno on a pedestal and thought he'd never do what he did.
