The money is awarded to nonprofit agencies.
Applicants must have a primary purpose of promoting the arts, be a nonprofit organization with tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status, use the money in the Augusta area, have a local board of directors, have their request approved by the Community Council and have their proposal presented by a person who is not a member of the Community Council.
Applicants must complete a written application, which is available at jlaugusta.org. Requests for religious or political purposes, fundraising drives, capital campaigns or travel expenses will not be considered.
The deadline for applications is Sept. 3. Grants could be distributed as early as November.
