Comments from readers:

THE FEDS ARE TELLING Georgia how to run Georgia’s elections. It’s time to tell D.C. to take a hike.

IRONIC THAT SO MANY are willing to throw away millions and leading up to billions of dollars for ads against our president. They could be paying their taxes and other fees fairly with those monies to help out the economy. I want the publication of the names of all those foolish people who put in millions and billions into the super PAC ads. Let’s shame those rapscallions!

ABOUT THOSE LETTERS requesting contributions that have nickels and dimes in them, I have given a number of times but sometimes I don’t and I just stick the coin in my pocket and go on with life.

I AM A CROSSING GUARD in Aiken County over 15 years. I’m just thankful that I have a job. Who in the world gets three months’ vacation with pay?

THE WORLD HAS never been a more dangerous place. America is navigating treacherous waters; the economy has one foot in the grave and the other one on a banana peel and we elect a president because of his likability, charm and personality. Lord help us.

THE PARENT WHO criticizes the players and the coaches at Evans High School is only hurting her child, who is a good, sweet young man. Baseball is for the kids, not for the parents.

THE LEADERS DIDN’T want a name they would have to explain. Would you agree, A&M is much easier to explain than GHSU?

THE ARTICLE ON PAINE College was very nice but over all those years did they not produce a few accounting majors that could have managed their financial affairs and properly handled the vital paperwork and accounting?

GOV. DEAL WANTS TO “reform” prisoner education. This will just be more tax and spend. If ex-convicts would take labor jobs, the illegals would have no jobs so they’d go back to where they’re legal. Deal wants “programs” that teach construction, maintenance, etc. The best way to learn such a job is to begin as a laborer, and that takes no training – just self-discipline.

I THINK IT IS TIME this country stands up to Obama and his cronies and starts talking impeachment. What he has done, no other president has done. He has disregarded the Constitution more than once.

I have no problem naming contributors.....but every time it comes up the air wafts over to implications that people with money are evil. Socailists that are guilty of wealth envy just can't help themselves.

Of course they only envy the wealth of conservatives......Liberals can be wealthy and they have no problem with that.

G'morning posters and posers

I listen to Softball with Chris Matthews... a little comedy is good for the soul.

The Emperor has finally said something I can completely agree with..."This campaign is still about hope and change" Yep, we are still hoping for change from those that ram pork laden bills down our throats. (see Obamacare) We are still hoping for a little change in our pockets.

He also said of Romney that he didn't get as rich as he is without help of the workers. Again, the Emperor is correct. He got his money creating jobs.

Chris Matthews is so far up in that dark place until he doesn't know how to be other than biased. You would have to go a long way to find someone more in love with Obama.

I don't think That Obama made many friends when he said that if you start a business, you don't build it up, others do. (I guess he was talking to his base on that one)
Way to win friends, huh?
Does that mean that you set up shop, then you just sit back and watch it grow. Volunteers will come in and run things and make you rich?

Please research before responding

Little Lamb... Please read my entire comment, and not focus on the one sentence... Village at Riverwatch, Wheeler Town Park, and the 24 acres in South Augusta(equals three)...

I made sure to include the link for you and everybody else to see the plans in South Augusta..
http://appweb.augustaga.gov/agendapublic/Bluesheet.aspx?ItemID=16464&Mee...

The Village at Riverwatch site plan includes retail, theatre, office, resturant, bank, hotel, and residential...
http://www.loopnet.com/Attachments/B/F/E/BFEFAA4B-6003-467C-A990-6E21BCC...

The only tenant at Wheeler Town Park is Carmax, but the Gateway(240 units) complex will soon break ground...

Shopping Center

Thank you for the links. I followed the link to the two-page (front & back) flyer for Village at Riverwatch. It is perfectly clear from the flyer that the project is a shopping center and nothing else. True, they show a space for a 122-room hotel, but there is absolutely no residential housing on the plan. Just because the developer calls it "mixed-use" does not make it so.

Gateway Apartments

Likewise, your link to the city of Augusta's web site shows your Wheeler Town Park to be nothing more than an apartment complex (240 units) in west Augusta.

More and more apartments

And your link you call "South Augusta" is nothing more than a large apartment complex at Dean's Bridge Rd. & Tobacco Rd. There is nothing that could be construed as "mixed-use" in there. The link was just showing how P&Z was recommending approval of a re-zoning request from single family residential to apartment residential.

If you look again in the far

If you look again in the far right corner of the VAR site plan... There's 20.74 acres to be used for residential development on the property... The MG Herring link below for the VAR clearly includes the word 'residential'... Even without the residential the VAR would still be considered mixed-use... There's a big diffrence from having banks, hotels, and office space become apart of the development... Compared to the Augusta Exchange being surrounded by them, but not officially apart of the property...
http://www.herringgroup.com/projects/the_village_at_riverwatch

The new Gateway complex will join Carmax at Wheeler Town Park... Before the recession Gander Mountain, and Nothern Toole were both opening in this area... The new residential will help speed up the commercial growth...

The plans in South Augusta only include residential at the moment... If you were to read the link again it says ''that access to any future commercial development be at least 200 feet from the Tobacco Road intersection''... I've never heard of regular apartment complexes mentioning anything in terms of commercial development....

It's similar to the Books A Million turning into 2nd & Charles on Washington rd...

Why the furor

...over the lists of donors? Clue: The majority of Romney's donations are in the category of under $2,000, while the majority of Obama's are waaaay over that. Romney has grassroots support; liberals want to know NAMES and addresses so they can harass and intimidate the donors like they did with each successful proposition in California.

I give them a 50/50 chance of making it 3 years. People will flock there like they are giving food away for a few weeks, then they will see sales decline to the level of RT's. They do have a unique drink menu and push the happy hour with good prices, so that might help. It also depends on the clientele that eventually settles in.

It's a chain problem

As they are locally operated, there is a huge difference in individual restaurants. The franchisers make a difference in maintaining quality; when they don't, the individual stores go under. The ones here in Augusta feature poorly prepared food served with bad attitude. In Columbia, the same, except the RT on Hwy 1, which has been consistently good for years. Same is true of many of the chains like O'Charlie's, TGI Friday, and IHOP.

I would say little lamb, who supports the photo ID, needs to explain why it isn't so all fired important mail-in ballots? As to people who support Obama being welfare queens, I support him and have never been on welfare, but I think I am smart enough to recognize a kid who has had a silver spoon in his mouth all his life. And BTW as far as I know, the President has released all his tax returns but Mr outsourcer in chief refuses to do so, and I find that a little disingenious. I am waiting on the charges for suybmitting false documents to the SEC. Could this be the first candidate who was jailed for lying before an election or are we going to wait till after he is elected (god forbid) to impeach him?

I just love how the government has directed, and we willingly follow, the issue of voter ID's, when in fact it is the ID's required for a drivers license that we should be focused. The other day I looked at the documents needed and discovered that all the utilities for this house are in my spouses name and my grandson has no utilities to prove where he lives? And thT is only two of the documents you must have for a license. Lord help me when I have to find out how to get a copy of my Appalachian West Virginia Birth Certificate, In todays age of PC I haven't a clue what the office is called or their address. The problem is it was a privately owned coal mining town that shut down 40 years ago and was sold lock stock and all else to a firm in Cleveland Ohio. But again why aren't we in an uproar over a document that affects our lives financially every day and is used more than 3-4 times a year?

Chronicle Brass Took Up For Anonymous Posters

On the radio today, the Chronicle brass had nothing but good things to say about us and our debates. They took up for us in a superb way saying our debates online are intense. They also said anonymous free speech is to be valued.

They gave the example of a teacher who wants to complain about the school system, but can't use her name. The radio guy kept trying to get them to say something negative, but they wouldn't. He asked why can't the comments be like letters to the editor where real names are used. They answered the public knows the difference in the type format. It made me smile.

Chain, chain, chain

Why can't the Augusta area have more people that will open their OWN restaurant instead of making way for another chain? The good restuarants I remember from way back were not chains but locally owned and operated. Town Tavern, Duke's, PeeWee's, Papa Joe's, Red Lion, etc, were local and were very good.
