Comments from readers:

THE FEDS ARE TELLING Georgia how to run Georgia’s elections. It’s time to tell D.C. to take a hike.

IRONIC THAT SO MANY are willing to throw away millions and leading up to billions of dollars for ads against our president. They could be paying their taxes and other fees fairly with those monies to help out the economy. I want the publication of the names of all those foolish people who put in millions and billions into the super PAC ads. Let’s shame those rapscallions!

ABOUT THOSE LETTERS requesting contributions that have nickels and dimes in them, I have given a number of times but sometimes I don’t and I just stick the coin in my pocket and go on with life.

I AM A CROSSING GUARD in Aiken County over 15 years. I’m just thankful that I have a job. Who in the world gets three months’ vacation with pay?

THE WORLD HAS never been a more dangerous place. America is navigating treacherous waters; the economy has one foot in the grave and the other one on a banana peel and we elect a president because of his likability, charm and personality. Lord help us.

THE PARENT WHO criticizes the players and the coaches at Evans High School is only hurting her child, who is a good, sweet young man. Baseball is for the kids, not for the parents.

THE LEADERS DIDN’T want a name they would have to explain. Would you agree, A&M is much easier to explain than GHSU?

THE ARTICLE ON PAINE College was very nice but over all those years did they not produce a few accounting majors that could have managed their financial affairs and properly handled the vital paperwork and accounting?

GOV. DEAL WANTS TO “reform” prisoner education. This will just be more tax and spend. If ex-convicts would take labor jobs, the illegals would have no jobs so they’d go back to where they’re legal. Deal wants “programs” that teach construction, maintenance, etc. The best way to learn such a job is to begin as a laborer, and that takes no training – just self-discipline.

I THINK IT IS TIME this country stands up to Obama and his cronies and starts talking impeachment. What he has done, no other president has done. He has disregarded the Constitution more than once.

Our choices for president
Unpublished

I would rather elect a guy who was likeable and had the interests of the majority of Americans at heart than a guy who keeps his money in tax sheltered foreign bank accounts, won't release at least a decade of tax returns, and who also favors even more tax cuts for the wealthy. I would rather vote for a guy who wants to create jobs (though congress stymies him) instead of a guy who specialized in outsourcing American jobs and killing American industry. I would rather vote for a guy who has taken steps to enact sweeping reforms to the healthcare industry than a guy who gave a state universal healthcare using a plan that was virtually identical to the the Affordable Care Act but vows to repeal the ACA just because he wants to get elected. I don't want to vote for a guy who cut funding for police so deeply while governor of Massachusetts that a crime surge resulted, who cut state spending so much that local taxes saw record increases to offset state cuts to education, police, firefighting, etc. I don't want to vote for a guy who promised gay rights and protecting women's reproductive rights when he ran for governor, only to have him turn around and attempt to remove and/or deny both. I also don't want to vote for a guy who didn't run for re-election in Massachusetts because he knew he couldn't win but claimed he was not running so he could run for president. I don't want to vote for a guy who was rarely in the state while he was serving as governor. He also vetoed funding hate crimes prevention and anti-bullying legislation and he cut education funding. Most of Romney's deficit cutting in MA was due to a windfall in capital gains tax collections due to a law put in place by his predecessor, Democrat Gov. Jane Swift. He also increased property taxes on business owners. Romney did one good thing as Gov. of MA-- universal healthcare and he won't support a federal law that was modeled after his own program. How do I know Mitt Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts? I lived in a neighboring state and got MA news coverage while he was governor. And you can look it all up. But many of you won't because you can't handle the truth. The truth is that Mitt Romney is a liar and he has a history of telling voters what they want to hear to get into office and doing whatever the heck he pleases once he's in office. Romney is nowhere near as conservative as Tea Party enthusiasts think he is but he is also nowhere near as liberal as Romney himself likes to think he is.

He is Obama-Lite in more ways than one. But lets not kid ourselves, Mitt is going to get the anti-Obama vote not the pro-Romney vote.

South Augusta growing

There will soon be three mix-use projects underway in suburban Richmond County(Village at Riverwatch & Wheeler Town Park in West Augusta).... The construction headed to Jimmie Dyess Pkwy in Southwest Augusta maybe the forth one... The acres of land on Jimmie Dyess sitting across the street from Zaxbys(the entrance to the property is right at the new traffic signals on Jimmie Dyess/Harper Franklin) is supposed to become an mix-use center.... There's a neighborhood about to break ground on the property very soon(67 acres)... The 10k sq. ft. Shoppes at Dyess Park is going behind Zaxbys, and the 25 acre shopping center should go across Harper Frankin on the same side as Zaxbys... Neither one of those developments are located on the property, but will help create an cohesive area of development....

I think we can all easily see that Augusta is now turning the corner... Were used to having major growth in West Augusta and the Medical District.. The good thing it's spreading to the CBD, Olde Town, Harrisburg, Laney Walker, and South Augusta...
http://appweb.augustaga.gov/agendapublic/Bluesheet.aspx?ItemID=16464&Mee...

This location is closer to the newer areas of South Augusta(Willis Foreman, Brown rd, Old Waynesboro, Goshen, Fort Gordon entrance, Diamond Lakes, etc.... I still think with the $30 million I-520/Bobby Jones project underway in South Augusta... The Peach Orchard/Windsor Spring/I-520 corridor has the traffic and infrastructure to attract the long rumored Target, Chick Fil A, etc......

This next comment is for one of my best friends on here... I tried to tell people 95% of crime reported in the media as 'downtown' is outside of the CBD... Bringing up a house located on Broad street in Harrisburg isn't related to the CBD... You'll more likely to find bullet holes in Martinez(Circle K on Old Evans rd, Ridge Crossing, Wedgewood, Shenandoah Ridge, Apple Cross, etc) compared to the CBD....

I guess the fact the Georgia disenfranisched a whole race may have had something to do with why the Feds are telling them how they should run their elections, maybe if they did it right the first time, there wouldn't be any interference.........

River of Life Folks Deserve Thanks

Congratulations to the people from Evans who worked helping to clean up houses downtown in the River of Life Project (No relation to THIS river). Those are life long lessons they learned and they helped some people in need. That 12 year old girl painting the house in the photo was impressive.

I'll have to agre with the Ole Gov. on that....that type education is missing in our system today....some men need job training....that makes more sense to me than thinking all are college material..

That would be the minority eating subidized food, living in subsidized housing, and talking on subsidized cell phones. Give him four more years and those folks will indeed be the majority.

Obama Impeachment

To the writer who wants Obama impeached:
Under what basis would you try to impeach? If you could come up with specifics and not use some random rant to justify your position, you might get some results. Try thinking for yourself instead of repeating rhetoric that you hear from "fair and balanced" broadcasts......

I'm sick and tired of politcs as usual. Our Congress and government representatives should be working towards solutions instead of power positions. Case in point : The Health Care Law. Democrats ran it down the country's throat. If Republicans truly cared about the ramifications of what was being passed, they should have come up with their own solutions in an alternate version. If a law acceptable to both parties was passed, Democrats would take credit for initiating the dialogue and Republicans cannot allow the President to present himself as a successful leader.

We have our military extended, economy in a bad state, education levels declining on the world stage, and infrastructure in decay. What does the House decide to vote on? Repealing the Health Care Law for the 31st time! Are you kidding me?

Until we as the American people are more informed on issues and can demand more of our leaders this incompetency will continue. Until we can make our leaders appeal to us because through solving issues instead of emotional pandering, this incompetency will continue.

And how long does this generation have to grovel and scrape for actions of three generations (four, in welfare families) ago? The last of the great segregationists passed away with Robert Byrd, Democratic statesman and US Senator, Exalted Cyclops of the Ku Klux Klan.

JggrNaut wrote, "...Republicans ... should have come up with ... an alternate version." Hard to know where to start with that. The Democrats did not allow their 'enemies' (their word, used often by Pelosi) to bring any changes to a vote. In the words of the great unifier, "We won. Get used to it,"and in the same vein of compromise, (paraphrasing here) "The Republicans can sit on the back of the bus but we're driving."

As to the notion, "If a law acceptable to both parties was passed, Democrats would take credit for initiating the dialogue and Republicans CANNOT ALLOW (emphasis mine) the President to present himself as a successful leader." Missed the boat there, did you?

What success do the Democrats point to again and again? Well, there's the (projected, never happened) budget surpluses under Clinton. Each one vetoed by him several times, but the REPUBLICAN Congress finally passed it. Welfare reform -- which amazingly did not throw thousands on the street in starvation mode -- trumpeted by every liberal as a masterpiece of compassionate moderate legislation, drafted and passed by a REPUBLICAN Congress. And promptly claimed by Clinton as his own legacy. The list goes on.
