Ex-Amazon worker accused in thefts
CAYCE, S.C. — Lexington County deputies say a former employee at an Amazon.com warehouse stole more than 700 iPods and nearly 50 laptops from the company.
Investigators said Todd Cofield Jr., 20, was supposed to unload the merchandise from trailers at the Cayce warehouse of the Internet retailer.
Deputies say he stole the items instead, then forged paperwork to make it look like he stocked the electronics in the right place.
Authorities say Cofield took 726 iPods and 49 mini laptops worth about $160,000.
He is charged with two counts of grand larceny and is free on $50,000 bail.
