Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

RAVE TO GHSU FOR mowing its new property, the former Golf & Gardens on Reynolds Street. It’s nice to see this riverfront area attended to more often than just Masters Week.

PRESIDENT OBAMA throws a scare into the ignorant among us by claiming he must save jobs of firefighters, teachers and cops. If Obama would read the Constitution, he’d learn that none of those categories of jobs falls under the purview of the federal government.

LAWS NEED TO BE changed or something. My brother was killed in a DUI accident and the guy who was driving had numerous previous DUIs. If the laws were different, my brother and the rest of these innocent people might be alive still. On top of that, the guy received only 15 years max and is serving in the same county as his hometown where his family can easily go visit whereas I have to visit my brother in a cemetery. Where is the justice?

A RANT FOR THE man squirting young children with a water gun. That looked sick; a young teenager should have been wetting the children. This was on Page 2A of Augusta Chronicle.

HAS ANYONE SEEN THE new Georgia vehicle tags yet? They have pumpkins on them. I thought Georgia was the Peach State ... not pumpkins.

A VERY GOOD TARGET for Richmond County drug enforcement would be the area around Peach Orchard and Windsor Spring roads.

A BIG RANT TO ALL doctors who make patients wait for more than an hour in the waiting room. A lot of us have to take off work to come to our appointments. That is one more hour of lost wages on top of the ridiculous co-pays. Our time is just as valuable as yours. Tighten up.

RANT TO THE committee that came up with those names for MCG. All of those names are terrible.

I DON’T BELIEVE Scott Dean is guilty. I think they need to look into it again.

REPAVE ELLIOT Boulevard south Augusta. Elliot is full of potholes the size of bomb explosions, especially at the entrance from Rosier Road.

IT IS TIME CHURCHES and religious organization start paying taxes on their property. If
they started paying,
we wouldn’t have a deficit.

I agree ;

To lesson the burden of the deficit all religious organizations should have to pay taxes....

The site plan for the Village

The site plan for the Village at Riverwatch is available...The Costco will soon have some company, because tons of growth is heading towards West Augusta.... The second phase of the development begins sometime next year.. The development includes an theatre(had the first Starplex Cinema in the state planned before recession stalled project), hotel(four story), and residential... The old Regal Village theatre in the Augusta West Plaza was purchased earlier this year, and Wheeler Town Park is building an 240 unit Gateway Crossing complex(two large mix-used developments & two new movie theatres)... The year 2013 will really help change the feel of Augusta....

http://www.loopnet.com/Attachments/B/F/E/BFEFAA4B-6003-467C-A990-6E21BCC...

92 acres: Think Whole Foods, Trader Joes, California Pizza Kitchen, Chipotle, Cheescake Factory, H&M, REI, World Market, Gander Mountain, etc.....

This is the agreement with the city of Augusta...

'' The Village at Riverwatch consist of approximately 115-acres along Riverwatch Pkwy and Interstate 20 in Augusta, GA.'' The project is anticipated to be developed into three stages: Costco tract, Phase 1 and Phase 2, all connected through an extension of Alexander Drive, approximately 5-acres, from Riverwatch pkwy to River Shoals Pkwy.''

'' The Costco Tract consist of approximately 16.5-acres and will house a Costco warehouse.''

'' Phase 1 is comprised of approximately 12-acres located along Riverwatch Pkwy and is expected to be developed into commercial outparcel lots and sold and/or leased to third parties for development. Typical uses to include, but not limited to, restaurants, retail shops, banks, office space, and hotels.

'' Phase 2, approximately 82 acres, comprises the balance of the site and is situated east and west of the Costco Tract. Phase 2 is expected to include large format retai, specialty retail, restaurants, as well as other development uses..

The Costco at VAR is an $17

The Costco at VAR is an $17 million to $22 million development... The Alidi in Martinez is around $1-$2 mllion, and won't draw people from outside of the CSRA... There's a total of one Costco warehouse in the entire state of Georgia outside of metro Atlanta(West Augusta)... Columbia is finally getting both Trader Joes/Whole Foods(they usuallly follow each other), but have to drive to Augusta to access(Costco, PF Changs, Apple, etc).... I think some people are so used to bashing Augusta daily they forget about the numerous positives....

New Plates.

"HAS ANYONE SEEN THE new Georgia vehicle tags yet?"

Saw my first one today. I think they are UUUGLY. Not classy. Not attractive. Wish I could keep my old tags. I'll be ashamed to put that thing on my new car.

countyman......thanks for the

countyman......thanks for the West Augusta progress report. I try to get excited but I can't see it from here so it just don't turn my crank. Got anything coming out here "south of Spirit Creek" except for the tax bills , Section 8 refugees, and our 100% overpriced garbage service? You know....District 8.......the "we pay and pay but never get to play" district.

There's not enough

There's not enough infrastructure or population in the immediate area...

Section 8 don't live in the nice neighborhoods in South Augusta, or even Hephzibah since it's south of the location..... The Lakes at Spirit Creek in South Augusta and Spread Oak Plantation in Hephzibah come to mind... Target, the usual chain restaurants, etc are coming to South Augusta sooner or later... Alot of the disposable income is located south of Tabacco rd, but the infrastracuture/traffic is centered around Windsor Spring/Peach Orchard rd....

You better get use to it because you haven't seen nothing yet! If you are happy with the Supreme Court ruling, just be glad you only have to wait hour plus to see your doctor.

Dichotomy, the new tags are

Dichotomy, the new tags are definitely ugly. You can keep the old look with a wildflower or wildlife tag if you're willing to pay the extra $35. I did. And I agree with you about wanting to get some decent places in south Augusta. We are the red headed step child.

I thought about pool water.

I could dip a bucket out the pool, too. Plus, I could just jump in there instead of the shower.

Nope. It was the murder over

Nope. It was the murder over the neighbor's husband where the woman got her son to commit the act. What got me about that is none of the newspaper write-ups mentioned the man it was over except in a very superficial way. The trial article mentioned all kinds of things, but didn't even say if he were in court, whether he helped the investigation or anything. It was like they didn't want to let us know anything about him. Plus, what about the other husband? A long investigative article or book would get into all those aspects. It will all be told sooner or later on TV or in print. I think our papers suppressed things. Whether it was intentional or not, I don't know. There were certainly pertinent aspects not brought up.

About doctors...

and the wait; what I find annoying is the robo-call the day before an appointment, reminding me. I would dearly love to call the doctor and say something like,

"This is to remind you I have an appointment at a certain time tomorrow. This does not mean me sitting in an overcrowded, plague-infested waiting room for several hours past that time reading last century's periodicals, before sitting for another hour shivering in a paper gown in an empty meat locker of a room before being told the doctor will see me in yet another hour. If you are unable to make that time, you may be charged for that visit."

(I can dream, can't I?)

Purse snatching

When I read about cars broken into ....windows broken & etc...purses taken ....makes me mad as %$#$$.....car trunks are NOT safe...they watch for that to happen.......University Hosp...grocery store--business--parks...doesn't matter---they are watching...
I wish we could use some ole fashioned caning on the behind....in a public place........why not.....also beating the soles of the feet.....they won't walk for weeks.....or sit for weeks.......save money on jails.
I might run for office & that might just get in my platform....

omg...I just realized ...that book is getting to me....

Murder

I've often wondered about that case too....did the husband have any thoughts on this......what role did he have ....any or zero......did he see the other woman after the fact......etc. etc.

But getting him to talk wouldn't be easy RM....you may have to stick with fiction...
