KKK denied for Adopt-A-Highway

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation has declined to accept a Ku Klux Klan group that wanted to join the state’s “Adopt-A-Highway” program.

The International Keystone Knights of the KKK in Union County applied last month to adopt part of Route 515 in the Appalachian Mountains.

In a statement Tuesday, the agency said “promoting an organization with a history of inciting civil disturbance and social unrest would present a grave concern” and could “have the potential to negatively impact the quality of life” of people in the county and state.

Organizers said they wanted to preserve the area’s scenic beauty, but critics balked at the move as an offensive publicity stunt.

Reward offered for stolen guns

NEWNAN, GA. — Federal officials are asking the public to help them find whoever stole guns from a retail store in Newnan.

The Atlanta division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Tuesday announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the theft of guns from a licensed firearms dealer. The theft occurred early in the morning of May 30 at Oz Cutlery.

The ATF says 11 handguns were stolen from a shattered glass display case. The ATF says the suspect or suspects broke the glass on the front door and squeezed through the burglar bars.

Why would GDOT decline a litter clean-up? If they accept the NAACP, they should accept the KKK.
