Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

Comments from readers:

SOMEBODY NEEDS TO tell the ranter that kids can play baseball in a public park or a private yard with the cost being merely for one baseball and one cheap bat. As a kid, I got to play despite holding the record for strikeouts. I wasn’t deprived by politicians as that ranter would surely insist. Stop depending on government; soon government will enslave you.

MR. TROTTIE WAS released from prison two months ago. In that time, he’s apparently gone back into the car stealing business. Why do judges and parole boards release such obvious felons?

PARENTS, YOU have to pay for your kids, not others. No matter how much talent, if you can’t pay or find a sponsor for sports or any other expenses, then don’t whine about it. You might get some help if you ask politely with sugar instead of whining with vinegar.

MY RANT IS ABOUT the Mother’s Day concert at the James Brown Arena. It was not the artists, it was the sound system, or should I say the lack of a sound system.

DOES AUGUSTA HAVE SO much trash that it has to have it picked up twice a week?

IT’S RIDICULOUS how people keep saying the illegal immigrant couple were good people and need not be deported on only one charge.

WE NEED TO LEAVE Iraq and Afghanistan and save those billions of dollars to funnel back into our own country to use. We have the homeless problems, the lack of full assistance to our beloved vets and officers of the law.

WE STARTED RECYCLING three years ago. Now we don’t need twice-a-week garbage pickup. Once for garbage, once for recycling is plenty. Anyone can recycle and cut the garbage way down. It takes a little work to wash out some of the plastic stuff though.

RANTS TO THOSE IN Washington who want to change Social Security. I have a surefire plan to ensure the stability of Social Security. All government employees and elected officials should have to participate in the Social Security retirement plan. I bet it will stabilize in one week.

RANT TO RICHMOND COUNTY drug enforcement, if there is any. You need to target that area near the corner of Windsor Spring and Peach Orchard roads. The parking lots are becoming a dope center for south Augusta. Get these slum bums out of there.

Before you hit the thumb down, please listen and remember what this weekend is all about. Hate to tell you this, but it isn't all about BBQ with your friends.

This post was so good, I have

This post was so good, I have to back it up 100%! Beside all the other positive things I could add, just having CG as my best Friend, is the best compliment anyone could have. With "Brother's" like CG, this world would be a much happier place!

"I am proud of you & for reasons you can't even imagine....

A great father--husband--American--devoted to home & country....you have always wanted the best for this great country.......you give to others all the time.....you walk the walk & don't just talk the talk.....
yes sir...I am proud of you!"

soapy_725...LMAO...."Why didn't you keep him when you took his picture?"

Now THAT should be what is posted on the back wall of every courtroom......where the JUDGE can see it all day.

And you are spot on about the garbage collection fees. But I think it is something more sinister than mere corruption.....I think it is OUR government reps conspiring against us. Nobody from our government has stepped forward to defend the doubling of the price by halving the service and keeping the already inflated existing price. You know why? Because the is no logical or plausible defense for this unarmed robbery of the rural property owners by our downtown oriented commission. Even Mark Johnson, our garbage empire builder par excellence, has not been able to come up with a plausible lie. Just who, or what, are the rural property taxpayers subsidizing? Should we ask Grady (confused about who he represents) Smith?

Are We Beating A Dead Horse

when we criticize local governments? One thing that comes to mind is everyone can't be boss in any organization . It's very destructive in any business when people do not know, understand and accept their own roles, which include goals, responsibilities and limits. Much of the rhetoric we hear from the elected ones, isn't about anything more than self serving remarks focused on campaigning for the next election.

Also, just how effective can a collection of part time (rather miniscule time) representatives of local government be? Some of them can't get off work to come to the meetings. Are they not meant to function more as watchers, than doers?

What we are in need of is a Top man or woman whose job description is to oversee multiple tiers of management and leadership performed "servant style" vs. "self serving".

Now, who should that be; a mayor, a city administrator? Who is the one who has a full time job with a salary reflective of the responsibilities and commitment? A mayor, a city administrator? I might also add, that the position must have the authority to act. Perhaps, elect the city administrator? Perhaps, give the mayor some authority? Has this current form of city governing out lived its usefulness?

Vietnam Wall

Sarge, my Sailor and I went to the fort this morning and took a look around. I took the opportunity to thank a few Vets that were looking around as well. Its a very moving experience. I can only Thank God that neither I nor my husband personally know anyone whose name is on that wall. And I thank them for their sacrifices. I am thankful that I could see this. I hope people take the time to remember why we have this day set aside as a holiday. Im glad my mom & dad instilled that in me as a young child. The one thing I miss about Memorial Day is buying a poppy from either the Legion or VFW guys...I cant seem to find them down here. :-( I used to have one in my car at all times....until it fell apart.
To all the vets here....and those who have lost someone due to their service: THANK YOU. You are not forgotten.

No Words

There is in no way I can express the feeling I felt looking at the names on that wall. Some I knew personally, listen to them talk about home, loves ones, how they loved America and wanted to get back to it, Their future dreams and what they were going to do when they got back. When I looked at their name, I could actually hear them talk.

Then another tear felt feeling crossed my mind. How would they feel today if they were to see what is happening to this great country and the American Flag. Was the altimate price paid for nothing!

I wonder the same things, CG.

I wonder the same things, CG. Which is why I am so fed up with our Government and the way we have misused the military repeatedly since WW II. We have lost the national will and the political courage to actually WIN a war. We send our troops in to fight and die, but we tie their hands with so many restrictions that they cannot win and only become targets to be picked off by enemies that hide amongst the "innocent civilians" and cannot be engaged even when we know where they are. Now we go so far as to announce the dates we're going to cut and run and promise to send billions of dollars to corrupt governments even when we know it will be used to support our enemies.

Our fallen brothers would weep and roll over in their graves to see what's become of us.

"known drug houses"

I always wondered about that phrase "known drug houses", too. Please define and answer why they are not FORMER drug houses? If they are known drug houses the problem should be addressed ALREADY.

Wonder Who Will Win Wisconsin?

I wonder who will win the recall election in Wisconsin? Gov. Scott Walker or the Muslim Brotherhood? This is an important election.

The Wall

Just got back from Ft. Gordon. It may be just a replica, but if you don't feel something while there something is wrong with you. Especially if you know somebody on it. I suggest that anybody in the area take 30 minutes on this Memorial Day weekend to ride out and see it yourself. It that doesn't make you appreciate the meaning of Memorial Day, nothing will.

Vietnam Memorial

It is sad but also nostalgic to view the wall of veterans that fell in Vietnam. But more importantly it is a reminder that there is a human toll to warfare. These names were real people and each had a story, history and family. RIP my fellow veterans, comrades and brothers.

I, for one, am very happy to

I, for one, am very happy to report that Memorial Day is not about me. It is about the friends and comrades in arms who are not here today.

As far as politicizing the dead, done by a few of the posters here, SHAME on you.

Our honored dead died for all of us not just your political views. Posting such, is a dishonor to their sacrifice.

I was eating a plate of food with friends today and I thought, how good it would have been if some of the guys like Sampson(slick and as cunning as they come), Howie(tough enough to jump outta tall buildings) and especially "The Spiderman" could have been here after all these years.

I remembered those guys and others today, not whose fault I think their deaths were.

CG, fftaz71, Bobbie 920,

CG, fftaz71, Bobbie 920, Harley, and Jake, thank you for the kind words. Today is not for survivors, but it is for those who paid the price so we could survive. The debts they paid can never be repaid, except in remembering them on days like Memorial Day. To those of us who are Veterans, every day is Memorial Day. Thanks be to God for our Military, and our country. Never forget!

I had a list of 12 names. I

I had a list of 12 names. I broke down when I touched the first one. Don't know why...can't explain it. After I composed myself the rest went a little easier. Glad I went. Seems like I need a good cry about this time every year. Must be old age.
