Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

Comments from readers:

SOMEBODY NEEDS TO tell the ranter that kids can play baseball in a public park or a private yard with the cost being merely for one baseball and one cheap bat. As a kid, I got to play despite holding the record for strikeouts. I wasn’t deprived by politicians as that ranter would surely insist. Stop depending on government; soon government will enslave you.

MR. TROTTIE WAS released from prison two months ago. In that time, he’s apparently gone back into the car stealing business. Why do judges and parole boards release such obvious felons?

PARENTS, YOU have to pay for your kids, not others. No matter how much talent, if you can’t pay or find a sponsor for sports or any other expenses, then don’t whine about it. You might get some help if you ask politely with sugar instead of whining with vinegar.

MY RANT IS ABOUT the Mother’s Day concert at the James Brown Arena. It was not the artists, it was the sound system, or should I say the lack of a sound system.

DOES AUGUSTA HAVE SO much trash that it has to have it picked up twice a week?

IT’S RIDICULOUS how people keep saying the illegal immigrant couple were good people and need not be deported on only one charge.

WE NEED TO LEAVE Iraq and Afghanistan and save those billions of dollars to funnel back into our own country to use. We have the homeless problems, the lack of full assistance to our beloved vets and officers of the law.

WE STARTED RECYCLING three years ago. Now we don’t need twice-a-week garbage pickup. Once for garbage, once for recycling is plenty. Anyone can recycle and cut the garbage way down. It takes a little work to wash out some of the plastic stuff though.

RANTS TO THOSE IN Washington who want to change Social Security. I have a surefire plan to ensure the stability of Social Security. All government employees and elected officials should have to participate in the Social Security retirement plan. I bet it will stabilize in one week.

RANT TO RICHMOND COUNTY drug enforcement, if there is any. You need to target that area near the corner of Windsor Spring and Peach Orchard roads. The parking lots are becoming a dope center for south Augusta. Get these slum bums out of there.

It also adds to your water/sewage bill!

"It takes a little work to wash out some of the plastic stuff" and it also adds to your water/sewage bill!

It would be nice to see who give a "thumbs down" to a post and know why they do it.

When you are on the "billing" end of a water bill where the water consumption also generates a sewage charge, it can get expensive to wash out containers for recycling.

Augusta is a great place to live, work, and play

Why is the section called the rants and 'raves' if Augusta hardly ever gets any raves... If we do hear one rave about Richmond County, another 1-2 rants have to bash Richmond and praise Columbia(80% of the time), and Aiken(20%).. The Chronicle needs to understand Richmond County will never be a majority white conservative county... Columbia or Aiken won't be long for either is the point they're missing.. I agree the local politics, bus system, RCBOE, lack of sidewalks/bicycle lanes, etc sometimes can be fustrating.. The crime rate continues to drop, and it's already lower compared to our peers.. Richmond County is the second largest county outside of metro Atlanta in terms of population.. Along with being the first to attract Costco, PF Changs, Sephora, Williams Sonoma, Pandora, etc outside of metro Atlanta.. There's several good schools, and nice/safe places to live in the county.. The county offers the historic neighborhoods of Forest Hills/Summerville/Olde Town, country living in Hephzibah/Mcbean/Blythe, suburbs in West/Southwest/South Augusta/North Richmond, and urban/suburban like the Augusta Exchange area in West Augusta.. The Central Business District is improving daily, and attracting new retail/business/residential developments.. The airport is growing(non stop flights to DC next month), and several large businesses(Starbucks, Rockwood, etc) are opening here in Augusta.. There's a growing number of local events, and the James Brown area has started to draw bigger acts.

If the housing starts are up in 2012 compared to 2011.. Some people obviously like it here in the city Augusta... I won't never forget the time this paper decided to print the 7th best place to live and 8th best place to retire after Sylvia disagreed with them first in her editorial....

Last rant

I've heard the police say things like " the shooting took place at a known drug house".
Are you kidding me? If it's a known drug house then why don't the cops get a warrant, break the door down, arrest the occupants and turn it into a "former drug house"?
Does it just make too much sense?

Don't you realize that felons are sent to prison to further their trade education. When they past the class, they are released to become better businessman.

Rant 2, How big can we build

Rant 2, How big can we build the jails? It's about the money, not enough room to house all the repeat offenders; have to save room for the worst of them. Prison doesn't fix people, it just gives society a respite from them.

Congress is considering a

Congress is considering a measure to prohibit the armed forces from sponsoring sports teams, in particular NASCAR teams. Former 3 time Winston Cup Champion and now sports caster Darrel Waltrip was asked his opinion of this proposed move. His reply included in part "how about you Mr. Congressman, why don't you show up for work in the morning with all of your sponsors plastered all over your clothes" Go get 'em DW. Now tell me rednecks don't have good sense.

I'm not sure I understand that one. Richmond Cty is majority black, but how can all three of the counties become the same? There are only so many black folks to go around.

Giving up on thieves and punks.

"Why do judges and parole boards release such obvious felons?"

Don't worry Ranter #2. In about a month, when the new GA law goes into effect, they will move the goal post and will not even bother to lock most of them up.....ever. We are doing the same thing for criminals that we did to our school systems. When government can't solve a problem they just change the rules so that it is no longer an official problem. Everybody gets a PASS.

The government ALWAYS pays

The government ALWAYS pays exceedingly more for everything, because it is not their money. Corruption is always possible, but mostly it's a mixture of apathy and ignorance at the highest level.
