A WORD FOR Vice President Biden and others: Remember Sodom and Gomorrah.

I AGREE THAT children shouldn’t be in the headlines. I think children just need help when they are in trouble. At least try that first. And if they have to go to court, the jurors reach the verdict so quickly that half of them are sent away unnecessarily when they just need help.

IF PARENTS CAN’T afford to spend money on high school baseball teams, the children don’t get to play. It seems that politics and money speak louder than performance. How do you explain to a child who has worked hard and is told by the coach that he is good, but he sits on the bench because his parents don’t have the money to help like other parents do? The coaches need to realize they are going to lose a lot of good players.

WHEN THE CARRIER used my newspaper delivery box, someone walking down the street would take it.

RAVES TO ALL the people at the Family Care Group of Thomson for being so kind and understanding and helpful.

RAVES TO THE Wrens postmaster for always taking the time to help people who go in.

RAVES TO THE mayor of Blythe. She is doing a wonderful job.

IT’S SAD EVERYONE is in a hurry to leave Iraq and Afghanistan. Those folks need direction and support, not weapons. Why should they care if the world doesn’t?

A RANTER DOESN’T like animals riding in the backs of pickup trucks. That guy certainly never worked on a farm.

KEEPING THE Richmond County garbage fee of $302 is too expensive for once-a-week service.

IF MITT ROMNEY IS going to be a serious contender for the position of president of the U.S., he should put his money where his country is: Take the millions out of the Cayman Islands and put them into the U.S. banks you want to control.

YES, THE RANTER who wants Bible study in schools, your kids are only in school about 40 hours over five days for real school subjects. What you do with the rest of their time is then yours to control. If you can’t teach enough of the Bible at home and at church for those hours, it’s hopeless.

A big rave to the Augusta

A big rave for the Augusta Exchange area... Tin Drum Asia Cafe is now open in the shopping center with Romas, Tutti Frutti, etc... They seem to be a small franchise with about eight locations in Atlanta, and one in Birmingham... The Savannah River Bank subdivision was recently approved.. Commercial property made up of 5 lots, and I think the development will share an access road(Exchange Lane) with the Home2 Suites by Hilton...

http://appweb.augustaga.gov/planning_zoning/plazid_display.asp?zID=4296

The residential development coming to Wheeler Town Park(if the name didn't change) is called Gateway Crossing... This could become the 'Town Center' project desperately needed in West Augusta if done right.. Urban, pedestrian family, retail, condos, apartments, hotels, offices, restaurants, etc... Due to the location I'm assuming these apartments will be in the $800 to $1200 range.
http://appweb.augustaga.gov/planning_zoning/plazid_display.asp?zID=4343

Kroger purchased the land infront of the Washington Walk shopping center(Sonic and car wash)... Both of the structures have been recently demolished to make way for two 4k sq. ft. retail buildings and the new access road......

News from Columbia county....

Now ...tell me again that this is only in Richmond county & won't overflow into Columbia county......when we complain about it yall pretend it doesn't happen near YOUR house.....

Two Columbia County teens told authorities late Saturday that they were robbed at gunpoint near a Martinez convenience store.

The 17-year-olds said that as they walked to the Circle K gas station on Old Evans Road just after 11 p.m. two men approached them. The robbers pointed a chrome handgun at the teens and demanded their possessions.

When one of the teens said his pockets were empty, the man told him to run away, which he did.

The gun-wielding robber then pointed a gun at the other teen, who handed over his cell phone, $25 in cash and a pack of cigarettes. The robber had the teen show him how to work the phone, then the pair ran away toward Old Petersburg Road.

The teens described their assailants as black men, one wearing a black T-shirt and blue shorts had the gun and the other wore a gray shirt.

ALeaves & I know how it starts.....inch here--inch there---we lived in areas in Rcty when the crime took over.....some make light of her posts about gun shots......I don't......I know what she says is true...

When it gets to the point your teens can't walk to the store at night or when ever---Houston ..you have a problem.

I know trouble...sigh

You know just reading the news this am can make me depressed.....ugh

For instance...

JPMorgan Chase’s $2 billion trading loss continued to hang over bank stocks. JPMorgan dropped 3 percent following news that the executive overseeing its trading strategy would step down.

Morgan Stanley and Citigroup, two banks with large trading operations, sank more than 4 percent.

The loss to JPMorgan appears “manageable,” said Matt Freund, a portfolio manager at USAA Investments. “But people are looking at other banks and wondering who’s going to be next? What else could be lurking?”

Now how can losing 2 BILLION be manageable???

I will have to watch re-runs on Andy Griffith to get my mojo back...

Not sad, but sobering...

Sadder, the International Community has done more than enough in Iraq and Afghanistan. NGOs can pick it up from here. I wish them good luck.

Section 8

The sad thing is that a few punks make the whole race look bad. Not all people are involved in crime and yet they have to put up with their neighbors being criminals. I don't think they like it anymore than anyone else and can't do much about it - like anyone else.

my thoughts on some rants

(1) It's interesting how some of our local youth are being identified in the paper for their "pranks" and folks aren't too keen on this. It's been going on for a while, but now that it's affecting some otherwise outstanding/gifted students in Columbia County, people are fussing. I keep telling my child that one can be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but you'll still be held accountable. However, if you are doing the right thing, those chances are not as high.
(2)Athletics are certainly wonderful but so much money gets poured into them, both in and out of school, yet the arts, foreign language, and other useful areas of learning are left by the wayside. Not fair.
(3) I understand the need to help our fellow man overseas but more should be done to help both those in need in our own country as well as those countries who don't even have proper living conditions or being subjected to horrible abuses.
Doing a pretty good job on this message board, AC, so keep going with minimizing the interpersonal chat room atmosphere and need for folks to write other than an intelligent, thought-provoking comment!

Sorry about your mojo,

Sorry about your mojo, seenitB4.l Hope you get it back.

In your post you asked "...but Now how can losing 2 BILLION be manageable???"

J P Morgan Chase reports assets of $2.3 Trillion. A loss of $2 Billion represents a loss of one tenth of one percent of their assets. It's like someone with $300 in their wallet losing three cents. Most of us wouldn't even notice, or care.

The Administration and their lap dogs in the mainstream media want to make it a big deal because it supports their agenda of greater and greater government control.

Their performance in managing the Post Office, the federal budget, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, GSA, the US Senate, and all the other federal agencies doesn't leave me hoping they'll take more and more control of the financial industry, but maybe that's just me.

How can crime be 'coming' to

How can crime be 'coming' to Columbia County if they had 346 burglaries in the year 2011... I think people assume the newer areas of Martinez(Stevens Creek, Furys Ferry) and Evans(Washington rd, Hardy Macmanus, etc) only make up the county.. Unless they mean the violent type of crimes increasing.. They need to ride through Old Evans, Blue Ridge, and Old Petersburg area which is becoming lower middle/working class, off Wrightsboro rd in Grovetown, and off Gordon Hwy in Harlem..

Seenitb4... I hope when you use the word overflow it means occur in their county, and not come from another... The majority of crime committed in CC is done by their own citizens.. Plus the richest part of Martinez(Furys Ferry, Stevens Creek) is much closer(walking distance) to West Augusta than the majority of Columbia County...

Soapy 725.. The 7th best place to live is only one of many recognitions for Augusta.. One of the ten best cities to raise a family, 8th best place to retire, etc....

If Augusta is so 'bad' then why is Starbucks building a $172 million plant, Fort Discovery being renovated, Regal Village theatre sold, new hotel construction underway, the first Walmart neighborhood market opening, Rockwood opening a $115 million plant, direct flights to DC, one of the fastest growing airports in the US, Whites building on Broad turning into 51 condos/private parking/businesses, etc...
