Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

WHY ARE STUDENTS graduating from high school these days without the skills/knowledge to speak correct grammar? It’s widespread! I understand that language arts courses are required, but what is taught in these classes? What happened to the old-fashioned drills of correct noun/verb usage, pronouns, verb tenses, etc.? It’s a sad situation.

IT’S SELF-SERVING of Warren Baptist Church to offer free breakfast and oil changes to single moms and military wives. What about single dads and military husbands? They are a part of the community, too.

THE RICHMOND COUNTY school board is meeting to discuss personal matters. When it involves our tax dollars, it is a lot more than personal. How about the public’s business?

A RANT TO THE VA hospital. In all of my 75 years, I have never experienced such a bad telephone system. I am of the opinion they do not care. It is incredible how bad that telephone system is.

AS THE SMELL from the trash bins at the post office on Peach Orchard Road permeates the air, it reminds me that I must get out of Richmond County, land of the lost.

FOR THE IVORY TOWER residents who think mobile home dwellers are trash. Those of us who live within our means and take the rest to the bank should not be judged by those who live in golden cookie-cutter houses in gated communities. When we retire we will have the cash in our pockets, where all you will have is a plastic card that you will be paying for for the rest of your lives.

IT IS POSSIBLE that Tom Beck was forced into doing what he did by circumstances beyond his control?

THE ONLY LEGITIMATE way to set loan rates is for the free market to do the setting. Government has no legitimate business setting loan rates – period.

TO THE PEOPLE saying we need to wait still longer to get all the facts about George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin: How long would you wait if your loved one was killed? The police obviously dropped the ball in taking Zimmerman’s word without considering the 911 recording and the fact that he was told not to follow the person he identified as suspicious.

I CAN’T BELIEVE the Salvation Army would register at stores for gifts like brides would.

But ultimately the best way

But ultimately the best way to fix the problem is to reduce the wealth disparity in this country, Nisbett said. Data from industrialized nations show clearly that "the greater the wealth gap between higher and lower classes, the greater the IQ gap and the academic achievement gap." Obviously it's a tall order, but measures like increasing the minimum wage would be a small step in the right direction.

"If we want the poor to be smarter," he said simply, "we should make them richer."

Do you really want more people off the welfare rolls & out of the jails....
keep the good paying jobs in the USA....stop sending them away....will this work for all....no.....but for most.
Money matters.

#6. Kudos to you! If only everyone lived within their means and steadily saved a portion, no matter how little, they would find themselves a lot more comfortable in their old age.
#9. In this country, we don't publicly try and convict people based on the emotions surrounding the victim. This case is not as cut and dried as it first appeared, so you can't hang Zimmerman until the investigative facts are presented to a jury and a conviction returned.

If Obama loses it will be the

If Obama loses it will be the economy. The Jobs numbers are not encouraging for Obama at the moment; we had early spring hiring that inflated the numbers. The problem for Obama is that the percent of those unemployed has dropped because people have quite looking. The economy is not even producing enough jobs to keep pace with population growth. Employers are sitting on money because they don't know if they will be sued by the government like Gibson Guitar or Continental Oil, have some weird regulation dropped on them, or have the health care bill imposed creating increased labor costs. So business is not hiring now. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/may/4/more-phony-job-numbers/pr... Obama touted 115,000 new jobs created but 522,000 people dropped out of the labor force at the same time. Even lame stream journo-lists are noticing!

All assets must be confiscated by the government and redistributed fairly and equally! THIS will level the playing field and make the poor smarter so they can earn more to be redistributed! WIN WIN WIN

Posting #1. The manner in

Posting #1. The manner in which a person speaks is not always a measure of the type person they are. There are many famous folks in US history and even today, that are not the greastest speaker of the english lanuage, however, they manage to be effective in living a postive life. Additionally, its not just the respondsiblity of the school to teach and enforce how a person speakers. It should start and end at home.

Since the 1990s, 40 percent

Since the 1990s, 40 percent of the increased wealth went into the pockets of the rich minority, while only 1 percent went to the poor majority.

From 1977 to 1999, the after-tax income of the richest 20 percent of American families increased by 43 percent, while that of the poorest 20 percent decreased 9 percent, allowing for inflation. The actual income of those living on the lowest salaries was even less than 30 years ago.

An article in the February 21, 2000 issue of US News and World Report pointed out that the average income of the richest 5 percent of families in 1979 was 10 times of that of the poorest 20 percent of families. In 1999, the income gap had been enlarged to 19 times, ranking first among the developed countries, and setting a record since the Bureau of Census of the United States began studying the situation in 1947.

If we don't get the good paying jobs back in the USA...we will have a revolution from hell.....I hope I got yall stirred some today......because as we all know a pancake has 2 sides....ya better look at the big picture...btw...how many millionaires do we have posting on here...LOL...

Just tried to hire someone. I

Just tried to hire someone. I had a conversation with a previous employee last week and he was complaining because he and his girlfriend were in a fight because she wants a car. He said "my truck payment is $500.00 plus per month and I couldn't pay another". I told him he could have his job back and he said he couldn't work because they would cut his check. What a sorry person to not take a job and expect the working people to pay his way. And his girlfriend quit her job as a medical billing clerk to be with him 24/7. I wonder what she thinks he can provide. She now gets a check. Redistribution at its best.

Success and wealth associate

Success and wealth associate with IQ. Crystalline intelligence associates with getting your education whereas fluid intelligence is problem solving. There is evidence that intelligence is labile before puberty, after that there are a few studies which indicate that adults can too but it is controversial. It is genes and environment so you could have the potential to be Einstein and receive poor prenatal and adolescent nutrition to stump your intellect, however you can't give a poor genotype nutrition and expect brilliance. Motivation can make strides but you can't make a silk purse from a pigs ear.

Hi Y'all, it's been awhile

Hi Y'all, it's been awhile since I have been here, but no matter about that. Things seem pretty much what they used to be. Complain or not, the new Columbia County "park" is a total success. We can sit on our front porch and hear the bands (not that we want to hear them) when the wind is blowing our direction. I think CC did a great job selecting this area. Success is in the hard to find parking spaces! Hooray for CC, now that the park is popular, let's get those tornado warning sirens!
