Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue workers were out to learn the ropes Thursday in training exercises near Mullins Crossing shopping center on Washington Road in Evans.

Firefighters conducted rope rescue training to keep skills sharp for steep angle embankment rescues, one of the numerous specialized skills for which they train, said Pam Tucker, the director of Columbia County emergency services.
