Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

MR. TURNER’S EXCELLENT LETTER favoring existing gun laws is an A-plus. We also should consider that the Constitution gives governments no authority for even those gun laws. It says we have a God-given “right to bear arms.” It never mentions a governmental power to not allow bearing arms. Governments just marched in and took those illegal rights.

FIVE THINGS YOU REALLY need to survive in the South:

1. A truck or car with enough fog lights on it so you can land a plane in an emergency. Not to mention some with green, blue or even pink lights!

2. A very loud motor so you can wake up the whole neighborhood so they’re not late for work (especially on Sat./Sun.)

3. Blaring boom boxes and radios so everyone within a mile radius can count down the top 10 rap songs.

4. A truck “lifted” enough so when it rolls over you have a few more seconds to say your last prayer.

5. Suspenders … we’ll just leave it at that.

AUGUSTA NEEDS TO PUT the Green Jacket and a Swartz deli back into the area, like on Washington Road for the Masters. Forget all the stupid parking decks and wanna-be restaurants that call themselves making the green jacket salad.

RANT TO RCBOE: The reason tribunal offenses have gone down is because principals have intimidated teachers into not writing students up. Principals do not have the courage or moral fiber to allow teachers to do their jobs.

SOME GEORGIA POLITICIANS want to give more tax money to veterans who are leaving the service. They say the vets need help with “their transition back into civilian life.” How does one “transition” back into civilian life? One takes off his uniform and leaves the military base. I did it 40 years ago and it was very easy. Really! It’s called taking responsibility for yourself.

WGAC NEEDS TO stop saying they have “Augusta’s only local traffic” on their station. WNRR has traffic morning and afternoon from WGAC’s former traffic reporter, who is local.

SHAME ON NORTH AUGUSTA for cracking down on the Liberty Tax statues who stand on the side of the road. They aren’t bothering anyone, and they’re gainfully employed! This just makes North Augusta look even more elitist.

I went out to the farm in Aiken yesterday. Lots of horse events going on. It's amazing to see so many former cotton fields being fenced and turned into pastures. The calvary has invaded.

Anybody see that ad on the

Anybody see that ad on the right about former SRS workers needing mental health care? What is this another way to make money off the government? All those people who lined up for jobs out there now want to be paid for the stress they endured or something? Only in America.

Creative metaphors ---I

Creative metaphors ---I like.

•"Love is the wild card of existence."
(Rita Mae Brown, In Her Day)

•"Love is a homeless guy searching for treasure in the middle of the rain and finding a bag of gold coins and slowly finding out they're all filled with chocolate and even though he's heart broken, he can't complain because he was hungry in the first place."
(Bo Burnham, "Love Is")

•"Before I met my husband, I'd never fallen in love. I'd stepped in it a few times."
(Rita Rudner)

•"Time, you thief"
(Leigh Hunt, "Rondeau")

•"Memory is a crazy woman that hoards colored rags and throws away food."
(Austin O'Malley)

•"Life is a zoo in a jungle."
(Peter De Vries)

•"Life is a game played on us while we are playing other games."

The last one really does it for me---the games people play.

Seenit you win the "Three

Seenit you win the "Three things you need to know to survive in the south."
1. There is no such thing as a grit. It's grits.
2. The iced tea in the South is always sweet and the refills are always free.
3. (very important) Never ever try to pet a dog in the back of a pick-up truck.

Here ya go Democrats,

Here ya go

Democrats, however, have said the state is more likely to benefit from helping students from all corners of the state. The Zell Miller Scholarship, they said, would be better spent on promising students who could not otherwise afford college — even if that meant changing the academic requirements.

Robinson rejected that idea. “HOPE is not entitlement for anyone. HOPE is earned,” he said. “In fact, it is detractors of the current law that want to create an entitlement.”

Now let us say this again...
HOPE IS EARNED
HOPE IS EARNED
HOPE IS EARNED

Now can we move on...

How about 5 things needed to

How about 5 things needed to survive Augusta?

1. A complete lack of interest in the arts and all creative things.

2. A defensive driving course in how to drive in a city where stop signs, traffic lights, yield signs, speed limits, and pedestrian right-of-ways are completely ignored.

3. A deep appreciation of a church on every corner and guns in every home.

4. The realization that Augusta will never be on a map, anywhere, ever.

5. An appreciation of the quaint notion that just because a crowd of people patronize a restaurant that the food is actually edible and good.

Okay, here goes my periodic

Okay, here goes my periodic library concern: I wasn't going to say anything about the baby screaming for half an hour at the library, or the man chewing gum, or the typist banging the keyboard so hard that the whole table is shaking, or the one that smells like cigarette smoke, or the two cute little teenage gals giggling and talking to each other in normal tones of voice at a computer station with two computers, but come on, do you have to wear an armload of jingle-jangling bangle bracelets to the library? They are banging and clinking and clanging into each other, the table, the keyboard, etc. This is not a child, this is by all appearances, no doubt and adult woman. Is there no consideration for anyone else anymore?

Does anyone wonder why North

Does anyone wonder why North korea doesn't have uprisings....
this might shed some light on that question....

In the late 1990s there was some grumbling & dissent coming from a prominent Korean Peoples army division...that reached the leader..Kim Jong II...according to intelligence these unit Officers-several dozen were arrested & forced to lie in the middle of the road w/hands & feet tied....while enlisted men were forced to watch several tanks rumbled over the tied men until all were crushed...they rode back/forth over the men........ya see how lucky you are to be here !!

I agree with the Rave

I agree with the Rave regarding bringing back the Green Jacket and Swartz Deli. Many have tried to copy the Green Jacket Salad, but they just can't get it right. And Louis Swartz, made the best pizza! So good; So Augusta.
